After reading this thread and seeing how many people are predicting the base 199.99 model of the iTouch to be basically a 3rd gen with some extra features, I kind of have a question. I'm being offered a 32GB 3rd Gen Ipod Touch from a friend for $135. It comes with 2 cases, a wall outlet adaptor, and has had a screen protector on it since day one. I want to get a touch, but do you guys think I should just buy my friend's 3rd gen for $135, or wait to see what Apple does with the 4th gen? He's going to put it on Craigslist if I don't choose to buy it from him, so I really can't wait until September :(.

Thanks!

I would wait for the 4g ... Just because it will have so much more then a 3g.
Just my opinion. :) A 4g wil also last longer with running new apps ( which will get greater... )

Thanks! The only reason that I'm asking is simply because I'm probably only going to have enough money to buy the 199.99 model when the 4G is released, and if it only is a cheaper 3G-like model with a camera, I'd rather just have the extra space because my phone already has a good camera on it. Decisions...

He was actually the one who suggested that price to me, so that's why I was asking. Do you recommend waiting because of the features that I could be missing, or is it just because of the second part? I didn't really think about selling it, I'm kind of wanting this for myself :p.
I dont know. Its up to you. I think it would be worth it but its up to you. If you decide not to you might want to tell him that he could get quite a bit more on eBay.

I would wait but be sure to tell your friend that all his stuff is worth about 250 bucks so he could sell it

Well if capacity is more important than possibility of camera, then buy your friend's unit. You save $64 ($70 with tax) and get twice the capacity. The $199 model will have at most 16GB. The $199 model isn't going to have much over the 3rd gen.

I think I would buy that touch for $135, if you don't like it and want the 4th gen when it comes out you could probably sell it on ebay for a profit, provided you don't mind taking advantage of your friend. The 32GB originally cost $299 so I think its a really good deal, your getting it for less than half the price of a new one.

I have another question, for the 4th gen touch what kind of wall USB charger do you use? I hear that the new iPod touch 3G 32GB is incompatible with most chargers on the market because the charger has to have a special IC chip in it in order for it to work on the ipod or else it just displays a message like "charging not supported by this device". So my question is, is there any safe aftermarket charger that would work for the 4G touch, or do we HAVE to buy Apple's overpriced USB adapter just to charge from a wall outlet.

Am I the only one annoyed by the quantity of posts by the OP?

Anyway, I'm getting excited about the upcoming update but it'll need to be pretty well-speced in order for me to buy it.
I like my 2g but the broken screen does annoy me :(

I think you are the only one who's annoyed. After all, without all his posts, this interesting thread might have died long ago.

To the second half of your post: I'm excited, too. And I also agree that it must have good specs for be to buy it, as my 2G does all the work it needs to so far.

I think everything that could be said about the next ipod touch is here in already, pause people.

I have to agree Biker, I saw two similar threads to this posted in September and in May, when I did a thread that was different than others, people moved it. I think we have covered everything.

If you don't need the camera, the decision points are the screen which will be better and the 4g will be faster at running apps. If you need storage the most, I woud recommand 3g with your budget. That's a chooce you have to make. :)

I suppose there is an 'uninstall'- program which will remove it...
And otherwise you can just reset is.
What would happen if you send you iPod to apple for repaire, and they notice
jailbreak ?

In the Apple Store (the Physical one), they have a notice on the Genius Bar saying something along the lines of: Any Jailbroken iPod touch or iPhone may not receive service, and may be Banned from the store.

That's from memory, so it might not be as serious as that, but I know they don't allow it (at least for the Apple Store in my city).

I use my phone charger and plug in the ipod usb end into it and it works like a charm

I think so. I like to respond as much as i can.

Exactly. Thank you.

I guess. But that wont keep people from posting.

They wont fix it.

**Edit** Oh. Now were not at 1,000 posts anymore. Ok. We need to keep on topic so we dont have to reach 1,000 again only to be cut back down to 975 again. Sorry mods/admins.

So... If there's a (high quality) camera on the iPod touch, do you think there'll be a thread like the one in the iP4 forums that has people show off their pictures? I just love that thread.

I still give a nice camera (5MP rear) about a 75% chance of occurring.

Nah, I would give it a lower percentage, since a lot of sources say 3.2 MP is more likely. But considering the quality of what I've seen on the iPhone 3GS, I can live with that.

If there is a high quality camera then there will most likely be a sticky for people showing off their pics.

The rear will most likely be 5MP especially considering they probably have them overstocked.

Thatd be fine with me. They look good enough, especially with an LED.

3.2 MP is, really, more than enough for me. If it can film good video, then that's all I need, really.
But 5MP cant hurt. Anything lower than 3.2MP for the rear camera and something will happen.

1000 Posts! Back to subject... me.

You know, I want the 5MP cam ! :O I am waitin for it sinds day one ! If it hasn't the camera I might buy an iPohone or even nothing ... :'(
It has to have the camera or else apple will lost alot of people.
