I would think so. The only dimension they might increase is thickness but that shouldnt be a problem.

Why are you saying this?

I am saying this because 2MP is old technology, and the camera on the iPhone 2G and 3G is a 2MP and doesn't take very good photos nor does it take video unless you purchase an app on the app store, but even with apps allowing video the video quality is just plain bad. I suspect Apple putting in a 3.2MP, which is more of a standard now.

Not that... why are you bringing this up?

okay heres the new touch.

current 3rd gen models (the 32 and 64) will become 8gb baseline model possibly be 16gb baseline model.

Then there will a new designed touch resembling the iphone 4.
32 and 64GB models (possible 128gb depending on cost for apple)
-retina display
-gyroscope
-some kind of camera. Likely 3.2 megapixel camera on the back of the device. I wouldnt bet on them puting a front facing camera on the touch. I think they wanna keep that feature premiere to iphone 4 people.
-iphone 4 like design more squared.
-improved battery
-ios 4 with multitask.
-Apple a4 chip.

If anything they'll not put a camera on the back, but there will definitely be one on the front. Apple said they will be shipping FaceTime devices this year, meaning the aren't just going to make it a premium feature. They're trying to get it on as many devices as possible.

Seriously, give me a reason why they wouldn't put a back-facing camera? It just seems unreasonable that Apple would want just give a front one only. I mean when the DS lite upgraded to the DSi, it gained two cameras.

Eh, I just hate the idea that Apple is probably going to just keep the base line model a 8GB or 16GB model with 3G parts. I don't really need the power, all I want is at least one camera, redesign, and a Retina display. Retinas are not that much more than the display which is on the current iPod touch.

Yes, it's probably guaranteed that Apple will put a front FaceTime cam on the touch, but as liamkp earlier pointed out in the thread, FaceTime won't be complete without the rear camera.

He is saying, that if they do only have one camera then it will be the front camera. Especially because its a $1.

I dont think they will, but they did for the iP4. But then again the 3GS-iP4 wasnt a huge change (other than Facetime)... such as a camera. I think they will have the base a 3G with a camera, (retina) and gyroscope.

Thank you. The parts arent that expensive anyway, and there is space in the logic board.

No problem. I really dont mind if they make the touch thicker, which isn't an Apple move, If they make it a a tad thicker and squarer, they can fit more things in.

Me neither. But they seem to think it needs to be as thin as possible, but they could square it off and have more room.

I know, Apple is really concerned about their thinness for products, they market the iPad as thin in their TV ad, the nano as very thin, the touch as thin, and the shuffle as small and thin. I don't really think a lot of people care if it is super thin or a couple Milimeters thicker. I don't mind at all.

I'm not sure if I would like it to being squared off... :s And I think the front facing cam is really not that obvious. It would rather be a back facing one.

Most likely both, if they really want to promote FaceTime, and us as consumers expect both cams this year.

And I don't think a consumer would care too much if the iPod touch was a bit thicker than the previous model. As long as they keep it within reasonable size, the ordinary consumer won't even care about it.

Why not? It should have both cameras.

Honestly. I dont think people will really care if its a few millimeters thicker or not. I dont care.

Yep.

I don't see Apple doing this. Base model will be $199. Apple has decided this is an important price point to hit. 4th gen models with all the bells & whistles will be $299 and 399, with no models in between. One of the hallmarks of the Apple under Steve Jobs is a streamlined product offering, without all kinds of extraneous models.

The last statement is true.

However, by that same argument, one could say that Jobs will try to keep all models equal across all prices– it would simplify the product line, right?

The reason Apple didn't do an "across the board" deal with the 3G is that they could get away with it. It wasn't a very exciting update. Except for the whole profit margin thing, I almost think it would be in Apple's best interest to make it an "across the board" model.

But they won't.:(

there is evidence of a front and rear camera. I am hoping for both but if only 1, I would pick rear cam.

I hate how Apple keeps the base model of the touch and iPhone different than the others in terms of features. I wish they would just do what they would do with the touch 1G and 2G, all same across the board except different capacities. I want them to do this with the 4G touch, but I doubt it. Again, I don't mind some features missing from the base model touch, but I do want at least 1 camera and a gyroscope. Retina would be nice.

Hmm, I get the applecare warranty and then when the new touches come out I turn in my used up one with a bad battery in saying that it had a bad battery. Which they all do, based on the amount I use mine.

My warranty expires in October, so I would probably have to get it in late August or September, when all the refurbished 2G touches are sold out. Last time apple gave me one of their older discounted models, which pissed me off.

When do you guys think the new touches will be out?

Probably September 8, the day after the Mac/iPod touch deal ends.
