I agree. I wonder what the piece at the bottom is?
Most likely for wifi.
MAKE IT THINNER!!!

But it looks good.
Yah. It should be a little thinner.
That is just what I am thinking! :D I also use the back one more often. But two is always better ! ;) (but the back one is more important ... 5MP please ?? :p )
More likely both, VGA and 3.2.
it's not real people, it was photoshoped by someone
We know...... at least i do.

Really? If it gets thinner, it won't fit anything at all. I would bet that a thinner ipod couldn't fit a camera. Where would it go? The edge is only a couple millimeters as it is.

I think bulking up a little would be better as the additional room could allow more goodies. Besides, it is impossible to get thinner every year.

But it looks like 2 cms thick! A little less than an inch. iPod touch thiker than the macbook? No, never. Even with a camera. A 5 mp one. If it was thick like an iPhone it would be nice. Very nice. But like a macbook? Ask yourself.

Just over a month until I can finally get a Touch! :D

I've put aside $350 for a 4G and case and I want at least 32GB

Sorry if this has been questioned before...I'm just curious if any of you think there's a slight possibility that we might see two versions of the iPod Touch, one with Retina display and one without? I know Apple's not too keen on product differentiation in the iPod products (unless if it's strictly storage space), but we've already seen it happen with the current iPod Touch offerings (8GB ones are STILL 2nd generation while 32GB/64GB are current generation).

I believe there is a very high likelihood for two versions. I don't think they can offer the Retina screen for $199 at this point. Probably next year when the component cost comes down.

I was originally going to start saving in April, but I purchased my iPad on my birthday in May, I have almost $100 saved up, but I will probably get $200 by October when I plan to get it, I don't really plan to get in September, hopefully it lives up to the hype.

To predict what the new Touch 4G will be like you have to realize that Apple has two problems, a marketing one and a technical one.

First of all the marketing issue is the iPod line overall is in decline with the exception of the Touch, and Apple has basically ignored the Touch in every update since gen1 because there was simply no competition. The threat now is that with Android becoming a mature OS, and one which will be soon appear in iPad clones, it would be dead simple to use Android in a Touch like device with all the bells and whistles the Touch has been missing. No iTunes you say, well the Android Store (and its apps) is growing fast, and if the new device can play all music formats who needs iTunes.

So expect a drastic pruning of the iPod line in September, and a major update of the Touch if Apple intends to forstall a host of Touch competitors in the next 12 months.

Now the technical issue...Apple likes the form factor of the Touch and with the new iPhone 4G there is now a good visual diferentation between the two, however to add cameras, the A4 processor, retina display, gyro, etc, and maintain the battery life of the current Touch they have a problem. There is NO room in the current Touch for all this and a larger battery and the A4, retina display at al will suck way more juice, so what do they do...use the 3G(S) case that already has accommodations for a camera plus lots of room for other things including a big new battery. The Iphone 3GS is set to go away soon anyhow so then Ipod Touch will look different from the iPhone.

So will we see a redone Touch this September, absolutely, and I expect the Touch may even get a 3/4G connection over time making it a pocket iPad.

 I totally agree with everything you have just said. I would not be disappointed if the touch got the Iphone 3G(s)'s case! Sure it wouldn't be new and improved or anything but personally, I find that form factor to be very nice. The only problem is that it's a little thick. Maybe if they slimmed it down a bit to keep up with Apple's motto; "The thinner the better."

I don't think they would recycle their own product and ship it as a new one... That does not make any sense at all.

The MOST they would do, if they really need the space, is to simply copy the design for iPhone 4. The casing for the iPhone 4 is sufficient enough to give everything they need for the iPod touch with room to spare. (Speaking hypothetically, of course)

there already is a competitor. the philips gogear connect, and it HAS a camera, supports itunes, android

Oh really? 2 cm? No, it is only 8.5 mm (~.33 in). And I'm not saying the ipod should be thicker than a macbook. They should bump it up to iphone size (9.3mm). That way they could fit things into it. Reducing the size again would mean no chance of a camera.

Maybe if you make it square and then thinner.

eBay! :D

The $199 probably wont have it.

What do you people think about the $199 version?

Im thinking:

The Redisign
A Gyroscope
The Two Cameras: VGA and 3.2MP
Mic
16GB

It seems it is not out till later this year. Hmm perhaps soon the battle is joined? I'm not sure if this will be a credible threat to Apple. If it has a good camera, browser, email client, and video conference, I might decide to buy that instead. Competition is good :).

eh... out later this year? its already out in the uk, check out argos.co.uk

Thanks for the information about the touch competitor, if it had wifi with flash that works good and a good camera that shoots good photos and video that would probably push me over the edge to buy it instead of the touch, especially if the touch does not deliver in the camera department. The only problem is I would be losing the app store, which I desperately want access to.
