Probably September 8, the day after the Mac/iPod touch deal ends.
Otherwise know as the yearly iPod+iTunes event.

Hmm, I get the applecare warranty and then when the new touches come out I turn in my used up one with a bad battery in saying that it had a bad battery. Which they all do, based on the amount I use mine.
My warranty expires in October, so I would probably have to get it in late August or September, when all the refurbished 2G touches are sold out. Last time apple gave me one of their older discounted models, which pissed me off.
When do you guys think the new touches will be out?

Most likely both, if they really want to promote FaceTime, and us as consumers expect both cams this year.
I know, Apple is really concerned about their thinness for products, they market the iPad as thin in their TV ad, the nano as very thin, the touch as thin, and the shuffle as small and thin. I don't really think a lot of people care if it is super thin or a couple Milimeters thicker. I don't mind at all.
Why not? It should have both cameras.
Honestly. I dont think people will really care if its a few millimeters thicker or not. I dont care.
Yep.
there is evidence of a front and rear camera. I am hoping for both but if only 1, I would pick rear cam.
Unfortunately, consumer expectations don't seem to matter much. There were expectations of a camera last year too. I could see Apple putting anywhere form zero to two cameras - I would not be surprised by zero frankly.
The problem is that there isn't really any credible competition to the iPod touch. I don't think Apple cares about Nintendo or Sony or Zune. Looking at it in the context of iOS, the war that matters to Apple is iOS vs. Android. I think that is what it boils down to in the mobile device market. There is no credible Android device that competes with the iPod touch - virtually all the devices are smart phones. Apple's smart phone offering is obviously iPhone 4, which needs to get substantially all the best features because of the competition with Android. On the other hand, with the iPod touch, Apple just needs to give just enough in the way of upgrades to maintain its momentum. They had a relatively lackluster update last year, and it still continues to sell well.
Here's a question: what happens if there is zero cameras? Yes, we will all be disgruntled and many of us will not buy. However, I still think the iPod touch will sell. What features are included comes down to profit margins and Apple's market analysis. Unfortunately, A4, retina, 2X memory, gyroscope, and wireless-N may be just enough of an upgrade in Apple's estimation. Strictly comparing to last year's model for the same price it's actually a pretty good upgrade.
Speaking for myself, I still wouldn't buy it if it didn't have at least one camera, preferably two. I am just pretty pessimistic about the whole camera business.
The squared off and more flat design of the iPhone 4 feels more sturdy and nicer. I don't really want the touch to have all glass, because I think anodized aluminum would be better. The chrome has got to go.
They wont have the $199 have all the features of the actual 4G, my guesses for the $199 are: 16GB, Gyroscope, maybe Retina, and the cameras. The last statement is true.
However, by that same argument, one could say that Jobs will try to keep all models equal across all prices it would simplify the product line, right?
The reason Apple didn't do an "across the board" deal with the 3G is that they could get away with it. It wasn't a very exciting update. Except for the whole profit margin thing, I almost think it would be in Apple's best interest to make it an "across the board" model.
But they won't.![]()
Chrome is gone. Apple has to realize this. The squared off and more flat design of the iPhone 4 feels more sturdy and nicer. I don't really want the touch to have all glass, because I think anodized aluminum would be better. The chrome has got to go.
It is not strictly a Touch, it is for any iPod up to $199. They cant get away with having the 3G as baseline; its too big of an update.I was just reading the details on the iPod Touch they are "giving" for the back to school promotion. The fine print states that it is only the 2G they are offering in this promotion. Does that possibly mean they are going to leave the 3G in the lineup as the bottom of the line model? Just speculating, like we all are...fills the time while I wait and wait and wait for the new Touch.
Hope this is realsaw these on a thread somewhere, looks just how i want it to be

Those look really good.
If anything they'll not put a camera on the back, but there will definitely be one on the front. Apple said they will be shipping FaceTime devices this year, meaning the aren't just going to make it a premium feature. They're trying to get it on as many devices as possible.
I agree. I wonder what the piece at the bottom is?
Hope this is real
apple could just as much leave it has a tier feature for iphones only... I would rather have the camera on the back if i had to choose. I take way more pictures with my back camera then the front one.
Or apple could be cool and have both camera so everyone is happy =)
Hope this is real
it's not real people, it was photoshoped by someone
I just saw it too.If I want to open it, it uses photoshop..
