eh... out later this year? its already out in the uk, check out argos.co.uk

It says out of stock. Looks like a pre-order deal? Price seems high, although might be cheaper in USA. Specs are rather vague - does not say resolution of camera, and no mention of a front camera.

I hope this gets on Apple's radar screen as a competitor, since it does have their arch-enemy's Android on it. That will push Apple to offer more with the iPod touch.

If the Android device ends up with both rear and front camera, I would seriously consider it. Then if I like Android, maybe my next phone will be an Android instead of an iPhone. Hint Apple - don't let us down!

I don't think any new devices will impact how apple deals with the 4G. After all, the new model is probaly already in production and there will be no changes. ( I know that last year they most likely withdrew the camera a few weeks before announcement but I doubt there will be any changes to what they've already decided on).

well, i was trying to make a point about the camera, but i am seriously considering it as i use a rear cam more, so apple, WERE RELYING ON YOU, DO NOT SCREW UP!

just imagine jobs in cupertino reading this thread for ideas, great and yet LOL funny at the same time

The Philips device was announced in Feb 2010, so Apple would have that factored into their decision for the Sept. launch. They still might not consider it a credible threat.

DO they listen to their community? Do they look at an interesting post and say make it happen? Some of their decisions have made me wonder either way.

I don't think they bother to listen. Apple does seem to gauge the market response very well, based on their phenomenal success. What we get on the iPod touch depends a lot on whether Apple sees competition in that market. The only product line that seems to get the pull-out-all-the-stops treatment in terms of feature list is the iPhone. That has largely to do with the ultra-competitive nature of the smart phone business.

Seriously the Zune HD is the only main competition for the iPod touch, and the Zune HD is far from beating the current touch. When the 4G iPod touch comes out, we expect a lot of things coming, and I'm pretty sure Apple is doing some new things to the touch too, but when it comes to Microsoft and their Zunes they only update them every 1 1/2 - 2 years. And even with an update I doubt the Zune HD will have cameras, or an app experience similar to the iPod touch.

Zune and Microsoft aren't competition. It's a mobile device war, and they've lost. Apple does not have to respond to features that the Zune has.

Right now Apple needs only be concerned with Android. There will be Android phones, Android tablets and possibly Android portable media players. Android has good momentum with their app store and smart phones. Developers seem to be embracing Android. It's competition from Android that could drive Apple to step up their game in the iPod touch and the iPad. I don't the competition is there yet for the touch, so I am expecting a lackadaisical update for the 4th gen.

ipod touch 4

like i said in another thread, here is what i expect to be on next ipod touch:
new design, like iphone 4 most probably
retina display
5mp camera with flash led
NO front facing camera, althought jobs mentionned they were going to sell over 10 milions facetime products in 2010... so i am not sure on this point
maybe choice of colors, nano's one
16,32 and 64GB storage

beside, i got a question for you guys, when is the game center will be released? is it gonna be an actual app, which i am gonna be able to drag anywhere or put into folders, or it'll be some kind of in-app service? i am also asking the same thing about iad

thanks

Game Center will be released in iOS 4.1 that will most likely be released this September at the Apple event that is expected to happen.

chances for camera is just 100% now, I'll be more interested in the new design for now:cool:

Anyone notice the sleep-wake button is on the opposite side to normal. And that may not be a flash but merely a mic.

I have not researched other app stores. What is the android or zune app experience like in comparison to apple apps? Are either of them larger or featuring similar apps?

Yeah noticed the lock button straight away, follows the iPhone though.

And i doubt they would put a mic on the back, may be a flash but i doubt it.

Looks like iPhone 3GS?

That new rumor is a pretty good start, but I don't think it will look like that. The photo was obviously photoshopped, and looks to be running iOS 2.0, we will have to wait until something better is leaked.

Thread is dead
