Sadly I have school the day of the conference so I wont be able to pre-order it immediately. I hope that by the time I get home they don't run out of stock -_- :(

Speaking of that, does anyone know when or if the local Apple stores will run out of stock? They must assume that there will be a good demand, but how many people will be lined up to buy?

I would only worry about video game consoles, this isn't a console and apple tends to be pretty good about demand. I can't imagine it being impossible to get for months like certain video game consoles. It might be out of stock for a little while but chances are it will come back in stock within a week or 2.

If you want the new touch though I would definitely get it before black friday, when the holiday shopping begins you might have a tougher time of getting one. Though again apple seems to be pretty good with supply and demand. But to ensure one, get it before black friday.

I have gift cards to certain stores so I have to wait till they come in at those stores. Hopefully officedepot will stock this thing. Though I might end up trading all my gift cards at plastic jungle for amazon credit.

Also does anyone know how long it takes for the cases to be available at places like Best Buy and Amazon, I don't want to use it without a case.

yea but with all the hype, it could be :p

Well, it's getting about the same amount of hype this year as the one before. The mac forums buzz around rumors and speculations, then the product is released. We enter the critic phase, asking about missing features. Only to get pumped when a leak about the new one.

It's a cycle.

A cycle I enter for the first time, and I've never been that excited before about any other product .. :p

The Conference?

Is it possible to watch the September conference live? If not, will Apple post a video on their website? I'm new to Apple stuff, so I don't know what they usually do.

If you want live audio+discussion you could go to live.twit.tv, they'll probably be covering it. If you want live pictures and a transcript of what the speakers are saying (usually paraphrased) you can look at engadget.com (and many other tech blogs, although I doubt Gizmodo will have it :p). A few hours (maybe the next day?) Apple will post the whole video on their website.

EDIT: Oops, sorry for the duplicate post! How do I delete it?

I keep going over in my mind what possible specs there could be.
So assuming it gets A4/512MB and retina I wonder what else they could add. I'm still not sure about having 2 cameras but if there was one I would rather a rear facing camera with video/mic.
They could add 3G / FM Radio / GPS but thats too similar to the iPhone, maybe in two more generations..
Maybe i'll buy this iPod Touch and buy an iPhone in a few years as I clearly want a lot of extra features :p.

I have this vague feeling that the next iPod Touch will strategically fall short of all our expectations... It won't be the dream gadget everyone's hyping it to be, as Apple wouldn't want to perfect it at the expense of iPhone 4 or any future upgrade's sales. Still, it is a tempting buy with features such as Retina display, A4 processor and Facetime function.

At any rate, I wish it would have an iPad-like back and iPhone 4-like front. Perfect aesthetic.

Completely agree with this statement.

But I will definitely still by the new iPod as long as it has at least a facetime camera and a new hardware design. The memory doesn't matter as much to me (and I have my phone as a camera).
