can i just say how much the rangers suck.... for an all-star team its very disappointing. Since i go to school up in boston i follow the B's and I'm really surprised on how well they are playing mostly impart to thomas...

well this thread is dying...
Anyone see the Richard Zednik incident? link
Any thoughts as the trade deadline is approaching?

Omg that was terrible, and he wasn't the only one to take a skate above the shoulders that weekend. I can't believe the weekend the NHL just had. I mean a linesman got injured in both back to back Ranger games last weekend. And on top of it Zednik gets his neck cut open, Jesus. Thank god he's alright.

And yeah the Rangers really do stink, compared to what they should be. They're so inconsistent it's not even funny. And I've got a serious bone to pick with Hollweg right now as well.

Hope this isn't a career ender for Zednik, he's a pretty decent player. This happens so rarely I'm not sure what to expect.

hey guys/gals would any one have any idea how i can watch the Carolina game tonight being as I’m in the UK and NHL isn’t on TV as much as other sh**y sports they show.So I was wondering is there any way I can watch the match online or would i have to wait and just catch the high-light clips in the morning.......

Im not too sure what the Pens are going to do before the trade deadline is up, but I know that after the season is over Jagr is going to be an unrestricted free agent, and I heard a lot of talks going for him.

I am fairly sure that if we do get Jagr the cup will be ours, however I also thought that this year we had a really good chance. Don't get me wrong, we are doing great, but this year was plagued with injuries. Which if you really look at it can be good.

Fleury should start to step up his game now that he sees he isn't the only young star that can amaze people. Malkin is getting SO MUCH better, and if you see Crosby during the game he is just squirming and watching his point position slide down slowly so I think he is going to play a lot smarter on the ice, hell maybe even throw in some strategy.

The other injurys I can't really find good sides too (Talbot, Roberts, Kennedy) That is just hurting us. However I think that our "lessers" are stepping it up, and really showing we have what it takes. What I'd like to see is us get rid of Saburon (when Fleury can play) he just scares me now, and possibly move up the Michigan(?) goalie to the baby pens and see how he does.

As for Jagr, well I hate him but he would probably win the cup for us, I just think we need some more defenders, like Orpik, that is what is killing us, we let other teams into our own zone, and have trouble keeping the puck neutral, however when our forwards go to work (with Gonchar at point ;)) we do great.

You can listen to it through NHL.com I believe. It may not work but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to be able to. Last time I tried to it was giving me coverage from the 07 playoffs lol, but it was preseason so that might be why.

Sweet.

DENVER -- Peter Forsberg is returning to the Avalanche.

Peter Forsberg

Forsberg

Colorado reached an agreement Monday with Forsberg on a contract through the 2007-08 season.

"We're proud to announce to our fans that Peter Forsberg has decided to come back and play with our franchise where he's enjoyed so much success early in his career," Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere said in a statement. "His addition should complement our roster and will bring our team to an even higher competitive level."

The Flyers, Senators, Canucks, Blackhawks and Wild were other teams interested in signing Forsberg.

Forsberg, 34, had until the Feb. 26 trade deadline to sign and be eligible for the playoffs.

"Over the last several months, I have worked extremely hard in order for this to be possible. I am looking forward to putting this jersey on again," Forsberg said in a statement. "I have so many great memories of my playing days in Denver. I'm excited about helping my new teammates and former teammates in the coming weeks, and hopefully I am able to do that in the very near future."

During his nine seasons in Colorado, he won two Stanley Cups (1996, 2001) and won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP in 2003 when he led the league in scoring with 106 points.

The Avs had a 119-14-19-6 regular-season record in games that Forsberg scored at least one goal.

God I hate TSN.

I turned on the TV to watch my Canucks faceoff against the Avalanche, a battle that could be the difference between a missing the playoffs and getting the division title.

Instead I am subjected to an overtime between Toronto and Florida. Why would they possibly think I would want to miss the faceoff of my game in favour of a meaningless game between to never-will-be teams in a race for the first overall draft pick?

I wouldn't be so bitter if it weren't for the fact that this happens with *every* *single* Leafs / Canucks doubleheader.

Its even worse than Hockey Night in Toronto, where at least I can have the satisfaction that when they eventually decide to show what's left of the Canucks game I know I can turn on my antenna and see it in HD.

Ugh. Do people still even watch this team?

Yes. More people in Canada watch "this team" than any other team in Canada. You just have to accept that the Leafs are the most popular team in Canada, and that they get higher ratings than your Orca Bay Whales.

Most sports networks show the end of a game before they show the beginning of the next game of a double-header anyway. So are you bitter towards the Leafs or the Eastern Time-zone? Maybe the Canucks should start their games 30 minutes later during the double-headers to avoid the overlap?

i just watched ryan smyth get "dragged" off the ice on a stretcher after being hit and having his neck and face violently into the divider between the bench and glass-he was knocked out cold but thankfully he came to and was alert and moving when he was leaving the ice.

The hit was not really dirty as it was just a very bad place to hit a guy

Ditty you gonna be at the game on Thursday?

You touched the cup! :D

That is seriously like one of my life goals. hahaha

Yes, yes I did.

It was one of mine and I can cross it off the list. Though we were rushed through the line, it was still pretty gnarly. That thing just oozes history, seriously it's a sight to see and to touch.

One day my friend, and maybe I will have one of those weird flashback dream things where I can see all the great people who also touched it. I can't wait.

Psst... when quoting somebody that posts a picture you're supposed to remove the link to the pic :)

Yes, I'll be at the game on Thursday. Section 322 Row H Seat 8 if I'm not mistaken.

Ehh, I made the post from my iPhone and wasn't thinking about the image.

Nice, I'm heading down early thursday morning to try and pick up some tickets. I must say, the Islanders are very fan friendly. 50% student discount, can't beat that can you?

Absolutely not! I've used that discount plenty of times and I'm not an even a student :D

The only reason why it's 50% off is because we can't draw a crowd.

^^^^
Que organ music..... POTVIN SUCKS! :p
i was watching the footage today at my internship...they all look so old. :p

I'm sorry you must mean POTVIN'S CUPS! :D

Footage of the parade? Yea, they're all old. But, that's all we got. Faded memories of the glory years.

Nice win for the Isles last night. Can't wait for Thursday!

Do the Isles really have a hard time drawing a crowd?

I'm a Rangers fan (Potvin Sucks) - but since I'm in New Jersey I tend to dislike the Devils more and consider them the bigger rival (at least more recently because of thier success). I know the Devils can't draw fans to thier arena (new or old) for cr@p - I never would have thought the Isles had that problem. (The only Isles games I watch are against the Rangers and of course those are always sold out).

I went to an Isles vs. Pens game 2 years ago, It was really late in the season and I lucked out and got tickets right along the glass, next to the penalty box - it was F'n awesome!! Maybe it was cause Crosby was playing but they had a pretty decent crowd that day.

Tough loss last night.. but at least we made it out of there with a point. Down 3-1 I was worried.. The Islanders seem to own the locals this year.

Do the Isles really have a hard time drawing a crowd?

Yes, they do.

The building isn't as empty as it was say in 1997, but we average maybe 10-11k on weeknight. Rangers/Isles games aren't even sold out any more. Going to one of those games at the Coliseum it's about 60-70% Ranger fans, nice way to show support Isles fans. I am personally coming at or surpassing the 20 game mark for games attended. I have a 14 game package, went to 2 away games (Colorado and NJ) and have been to a few other games using the student discount.

I actually was just having a discussion with my friend (a fellow Isles fan) about attendance and all that jazz. I've come to the conclusion that Isles games have become a joke (no, I'm not referring to the team... yet). It's essentially a circus in there and it's geared towards kids. It's like it stopped being about hockey and started as just another way to keep your kids occupied for 3 hours.

There are blogs by some Isles fans that complain about the goal song and then we chant "HEY! YOU SUCK!" Parents are offended by that? Really? I've heard little kids cursing and their parents cursing in front of them, but this, this is offensive? Do you (Ranger fans) remember the "I don't wanna be a chicken, I don't wanna be a duck THE RANGERS SUCK!" chant? They only play it at Isles/Rangers games now because it apparently offended some parents. They are taking the fun out of the game. It's simply appalling to me that we can't take jabs at the opposing team anymore without somebody complaining. It almost makes me not want to go to a game anymore with all these whiny people.

Staying with the parents/kids theme they are the reason why games start at 7pm on weeknight instead 7:30pm. Do you know how hard it is to make a 7pm game when you're working full time to possibly 5:30pm or 6:00pm? Does that half of an hour really make a difference? The Islanders are essentially ignoring a rather large fan base by starting games at 7pm. They care more about the parents and kids that most likely don't give a rats ass about the game or the team. Kids are important to the game yes, because we are raising the next generation of fans. I honestly feel that the Isles are sacrificing too much (especially extra money) just so they won't inconvenience the damn parents.

The Islanders can also draw a larger crowd if they put a quality product on the ice. But let's fix the circus first before we get to the more difficult of the two.

Sorry for such a long ranty post, this topic just gets to me.

Yea, we are owning the Devils and Rags this season. A combined 9-2 against said teams.

Oh and btw: POTVIN'S CUPS!

On a happier note: Huzzah! It's my 4000th piece of spam!

Potvin still sucks :)

I kinda get why they market towards the familiesi and kids - its because they hope they can win the kids over, get them to bug thier parents to go to more games and grow up into big money spending Islanders fans - which all makes sense, but if they are pushing away the die hard fans or taking the fun out of it for them its almost counter productive. I still don't think the "get 'em while they are young" mentality works - look at NJ! They've been waiting for the kids to grow up and become season ticket holders for 20 years and its not happening.

I'm 33 and I'm a Rangers fan because when I was growing up there WAS no NJ Devils! And when I finally got into sports, even though the Devils were here I couldn't watch them - they weren't on TV - the Rangers were. Now all 3 teams are on the same channels so you've gotta put a good team on the ice and the kids will jump on that bandwagon and stay. The Islanders actually have put decent teams on the ice the last few years - at least they are playing meaningful games in March and April and thats really all you can ask for as a fan. I still think of Long Island as a hockey town and picture every little kid in school wearing his gortons jersey wherever he goes.

and BTW, will you guys please take Joe Micholetti back to call your games - he's horrible.

Keep dreaming. :)

It's such a shame for the Devils because they have a beautiful new arena, in the worst possible spot. The Rock is truly awesome.

Trust me I get why they gear it towards kids, but they are totally alienating a group with more disposable income (people like me in their mid 20s).

Don't get me started on the channel nonsense. The Islanders ALWAYS get shafted in that department. We get the fewest amount of games HD. I really dislike the fact that FSNY is becoming MSG+Plus. Who thought of that name?!?!?! If anything the Isles should on SNY with the Mets and Jets, thus leaving MSG+Plus strictly for the Devils. Oh, and please somebody tell Gary Bettman to leave Versus and get back to ESPN! Please!

We have put a couple of decent teams on the ice, but it's no where what we can be. The Islanders can be really good or just suck. They are very inconsistent. Damn that fisherman logo, damn it to hell.

Joe wasn't bad with the Isles. But you can keep him now, Howie Rose and Billy Jaffe are a fantastic duo. (I met Billy Jaffe in Colorado... he's a nice guy and gave me a practice puck)
