DENVER -- Peter Forsberg is returning to the Avalanche.
Peter Forsberg
Forsberg
Colorado reached an agreement Monday with Forsberg on a contract through the 2007-08 season.
"We're proud to announce to our fans that Peter Forsberg has decided to come back and play with our franchise where he's enjoyed so much success early in his career," Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere said in a statement. "His addition should complement our roster and will bring our team to an even higher competitive level."
The Flyers, Senators, Canucks, Blackhawks and Wild were other teams interested in signing Forsberg.
Forsberg, 34, had until the Feb. 26 trade deadline to sign and be eligible for the playoffs.
"Over the last several months, I have worked extremely hard in order for this to be possible. I am looking forward to putting this jersey on again," Forsberg said in a statement. "I have so many great memories of my playing days in Denver. I'm excited about helping my new teammates and former teammates in the coming weeks, and hopefully I am able to do that in the very near future."
During his nine seasons in Colorado, he won two Stanley Cups (1996, 2001) and won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP in 2003 when he led the league in scoring with 106 points.
The Avs had a 119-14-19-6 regular-season record in games that Forsberg scored at least one goal.
God I hate TSN.
I turned on the TV to watch my Canucks faceoff against the Avalanche, a battle that could be the difference between a missing the playoffs and getting the division title.
Instead I am subjected to an overtime between Toronto and Florida. Why would they possibly think I would want to miss the faceoff of my game in favour of a meaningless game between to never-will-be teams in a race for the first overall draft pick?
I wouldn't be so bitter if it weren't for the fact that this happens with *every* *single* Leafs / Canucks doubleheader.
Its even worse than Hockey Night in Toronto, where at least I can have the satisfaction that when they eventually decide to show what's left of the Canucks game I know I can turn on my antenna and see it in HD.
Ugh. Do people still even watch this team?
The Great One.... is that really you?

It's been awhile since I posted here... I hath been away.

I have a pic of me touching it. Not gonna lie, it was amazing.
Ditty you gonna be at the game on Thursday?
Psst... when quoting somebody that posts a picture you're supposed to remove the link to the pic
Yes, I'll be at the game on Thursday. Section 322 Row H Seat 8 if I'm not mistaken.
You touched the cup!
That is seriously like one of my life goals. hahaha
Yes, yes I did.
It was one of mine and I can cross it off the list. Though we were rushed through the line, it was still pretty gnarly. That thing just oozes history, seriously it's a sight to see and to touch.

Ehh, I made the post from my iPhone and wasn't thinking about the image.
Nice, I'm heading down early thursday morning to try and pick up some tickets. I must say, the Islanders are very fan friendly. 50% student discount, can't beat that can you?
^^^^
Que organ music..... POTVIN SUCKS!
i was watching the footage today at my internship...they all look so old.![]()
Absolutely not! I've used that discount plenty of times and I'm not an even a student
The only reason why it's 50% off is because we can't draw a crowd.
Do the Isles really have a hard time drawing a crowd?
Potvin still sucks
I kinda get why they market towards the familiesi and kids - its because they hope they can win the kids over, get them to bug thier parents to go to more games and grow up into big money spending Islanders fans - which all makes sense, but if they are pushing away the die hard fans or taking the fun out of it for them its almost counter productive. I still don't think the "get 'em while they are young" mentality works - look at NJ! They've been waiting for the kids to grow up and become season ticket holders for 20 years and its not happening.
I'm 33 and I'm a Rangers fan because when I was growing up there WAS no NJ Devils! And when I finally got into sports, even though the Devils were here I couldn't watch them - they weren't on TV - the Rangers were. Now all 3 teams are on the same channels so you've gotta put a good team on the ice and the kids will jump on that bandwagon and stay. The Islanders actually have put decent teams on the ice the last few years - at least they are playing meaningful games in March and April and thats really all you can ask for as a fan. I still think of Long Island as a hockey town and picture every little kid in school wearing his gortons jersey wherever he goes.
and BTW, will you guys please take Joe Micholetti back to call your games - he's horrible.
