Episode this didn't like much.

It was way too pantomime for New Who (yes yes, Absorbalof), plus I'm not so much a fan of ye olde England episodes.

To be honest, I'm not really minding Catherine Tate. she's better in the role than I expected, and it's a refreshing change to have an older companion rather than the younger Rose and Martha.

She's no James McCrimmon certainly, although she looks better in a skirt than he did. Only marginally, mind.

Haven't watched it yet, but had a feeling based on the preview that this is along the lines of what I could expect. ;) Ah well, hopefully the rest of the season will be nice, dark and intense.

Yep, it was a bit of a lighter episode. Apparently it was the first one that Tate actually filmed (apart from the last but one Christmas special, of course), maybe they thought that a slightly humourous episode might be a good way to ease her into things.

That might explain the terrible over acting then.

As for the episode itself, the only issue I had with The Doctor's Daughter was the whole 7-day war thing. This premise only works if every solider is killed every day, and almost simultaneously, at that. Otherwise, even if one of the original solders had lived more than a day, he would quickly correct any "new" soldiers that the war hasn't lasted a generation, it's lasted a day. Same goes for any soldier in fact, you would think word would spread, or that if a group of them was held up in a location for a couple days the myth would be exposed. No matter....

They don't all have to die in a day, just in less than 7. All it takes is one of the originals talking about how the war has lasted "generations" and once all the original soldiers are dead, the "generations" aspect probably stuck in the minds of those who had the story passed down. Especially when you count generations from the machine and you can create 20+ generations in a day.

Not to mention the war has been raging on as the city is being built so the close quarters for the initial conflict probably all but insured that the originals would all die. Run all of the originals through the machine and send them immediately to the front lines... run the second "generation" through and send them as backups. Multiple generations surviving long enough to pass anything on is probably a phenomena that only happened as the city expanded enough to separate the Hath and the Humans so that they weren't constantly fighting and had more sporadic engagements.

Yeah, I suppose - they'd just need to be going through those soldiers pretty fast. ;)

Watched this week's episode and thought it was, well, "nice", but nothing special. Not bad, but not great. Seemed like more of a light, fun episode to me, which there's nothing wrong with. Now we have to wait two weeks until we visit the dark scary library... ;)

Oh, and regarding my above post highlighting the overarching themes for this season - creation/destruction of worlds, and cloning, add to that: bees. :p :D

Indeed... the bees are disappearing in our modernish times. What I reckon is...

It's a global warming thing – the planet is getting warmer due to the stuff separating the alternative realities breaking down. Remember back to the series finale the series before last? Pete commented that all kinds of bad stuff was going on in his reality due to the problems the void was causing – one of the symptoms of this was an increase in global temperature. I reckon that's what's done for those bees.

Are we talking the show's reality or our reality as well? or are they one in the same? :p ;) :D

I think Doctor Who is set in an alternative reality where the only two places on Earth are London and Cardiff, so they probably aren't the same. ;)

Quite true, good point. ;) Until Doctor Who has an adventure here in Regina, Saskatchewan I'll assume they are indeed in an alternate reality as you say. :D

Hang on... thinking about it we saw 1920s Hull in the last series, so we officially exist! Mind, we were depicted as a cow field on a hill, so that's not saying a lot.

TBH that could just be a whole generalisation of the north.

"Lots of planets have a north!"

Considering the fighting began on the ship and good close quarters I can see them going through the initial solders very quickly. It's probably only been the last 2 or 3 days that multiple generations have had a chance to interact with all of the previous generations sent to die immediately after parenting the next generation....

That raises another question though... where the heck were all the bodies?

Attention all robotic cleaners. Attention all robotic cleaners. At last Kroagnon can leave the basement prison they trapped his bodiless brain in. And return in this borrowed body to the corridors and lifts of his own creation. They buried me away because I wanted to stop them using the Tower. And now you and I will destroy them.

In general, the finale always seems to revisit material from earlier in the season: Season 1, "Dalek" midway through the season, then their return in the finale; Season 2, the Cybermen, and then their return in the finale; Season 3, the Doctor becoming human and hiding through a device which then resurfaces with the Master's return in the finale; Season 4 - ???

Don't you mean seasons 27, 28, 29 and 30? ;)
