So who, or what do we think this-conveniently-only-lit-from-the-bottom-down-Dalek is then?

At first glance it looks as though it could be a normal Dalek, as the blue glow from the eye stalk appears to be in the correct position. However, my guess is that it is something more.

Perhaps Davros? Is that too obscure for the new series? Nah, probably not actually since they had the Emperor of the Daleks back in Season 27 and only serious Whovians probably appreciated that recurrence... so yeah, it could be Davros...

That, or Davros in an altered form (if these Daleks are indeed from the alternate universe Rose was relegated to) - or maybe just the lone surviving Dalek from the Doctor's last encounter... ;)

Regardless, should be an excellent second half. Let's hope Moffat starts it off strong and doesn't disappoint with the upcoming story...

Well, rumours of an appearance by Mr D.Ross have been circulating for some months now.

Ooh, they just showed a trailer for next week on BBC and one thing I noticed was Wilf staring up at the sky and seeing the stars going out. I think we're right about the destruction of all those planets being linked :)

As Rose said at the end of the mid-season trailer, "the darkness is coming", which would correspond to the stars going out. ;)

Pretty sure this is Davros. There have been lots of rumours circulating about Davros appearing and Ben Kingsley is reportedly set to play him.

The Kingsley thing was dismissed a while back
rumour has it that Julian Bleach who played the ghost maker in the Torchwood Episode
"From out of the rain" is filling the Dalek wheelchair this time around

Someone's run the image from the trailer through Photoshop to increase the exposure and brightness. Definitely too short for a standard Dalek, and are those hands I can see

Looks about normal to me (allowing for different camera angles):

Great analysis guys! I guess we'll just have to wait to find out. If it is "just a Dalek" then you'd think there's something special about it, what with a setup/entrance like that. Or it's quite possible we're reading waaaay too much into that one little scene. :p ;)

That.
I think it's just a "Daleks will be back" thing.

On a side note Davros scared me the most, out of any DW baddie, when I was a kid.

Yeah, he was up there for me as well. There were a couple one-ofs though in the Pertwee and Baker years which scared me as well as I remember.... ;)

Well while its not illegal to download from the net it is illegal to share to the web any material that is copy rited.

So lets say i have the Doctor on dvd and I make a torrent and share it out to my mate in Sanfarncisco.

He is clean but I just broke the law.

See what I mean
