It's Elastigirl!! I bet she would make a great goalkeeper...
I don't know... just imagine all those long, gangly limbs stretching about all over the place, why it would almost be like...

The England — Sweden match is going to be hilarious because England will want to avoid Germany and it is irrelevant whether Germany come first or second because England will definitely be playing them due to their extreme nervousness at not wanting to face Germany.

To be honest, most of the media I've seen is concentrating on the prospects of us facing Argentina, not Germany. If we both win our groups, then we wouldn't face each other until the final, assuming of course both teams make it that far. If we finish as runners up then (once again assuming we both get that far) we meet in the quarter-final.

Anyway, say what you want about the Argentines – Hernan Crespo has proved they've got a sense of humour. :D ;)

England aren't a quality side, but they do have plenty of high quality players. btw how will I get punished, is someone going to vandalise my socceroo teddy bear on my mailbox? (photo coming tomorrow)

I was talking about teams underestimating them

They are a quality side, they havent got the mix right yet and have played two VERY defensive sides that were hard to break down. yet they still have a 100% record in the tournament and have not conceded a goal.

They played very well in the last 30 minutes against T+T

Right.. just woken up, and have a slight hangover... :p

Oh well, we won, but man we weren't unfortunate.
Gr8 first half, and really lovely goals! Really proud of our Gunner too! Let's see more of that at Arsenal, please!

Second half was very tense to watch over at the pub where I was yesterday.
Lots of beers were ordered just to help pass the time...

Our team in short:
No problems up front. ;)

EDIT:

Just found another bad quality pic on my phone, taken yesterday (as you can see, it was quite busy!)

well i expected them to play very well for the whole game ... and t+t is hardly the best team ;)

so far England is playing like germany did 10-6 years ago ... completely without any ideas... which makes the game a complete waste

so far i would say it doesn't matter if england plays against ecuador or germany .. they are gonna get knocked out by both if they don't start playing better ... and i'm hardly a fan of the germans (actually the only teams i like less is Brazil)

so far England, Holland + Brazil have been big disappointments while on the other side Italy,Spain and Germany have surprised so far

want a little bet on England getting passed Germany/Ecuador?

Well the last bet you wanted was for me to take even money on England beating TnT (even though they were 7-1) because I had the audacity to suggest they would struggle. And they did struggle. Had I taken your $1000 offer of a bet I'm sure you'd have been a trifle nervous by midway through the second half. You can't fall back on the old chestnut that TnT were playing defensively, because you saw them against Sweden and still thought England would score 4 goals.

and they had chances to score lots more than that.... they didnt put them away....

So money where your mouth is or not? not, im gussing

TnT also had chances. There was a miraculous on the line flying save from Terry that probably saved England's bacon. I'm just saying that England are not playing as a team but a group of talented individuals and it is showing. That they might win some games doesn't alter this.

So let me get this straight you want to bet that if England face Germany they will win?

They have to play germany or ecuador right? thats certain regardless of the sweden result. I think they will beat either one of those teams in the second round.

And thats what i am willing to bet on.

some quotes...

Terry: "But we kept plugging away and it reaped dividends. Once that first goal goes in, it all changes."

Yes the goals came flooding in after Crouch's shot. One goal deep into injury time to be precise.

Crouch: "We have ground out two wins but if you had said at the start of the competition we'd have six points, we'd have taken that."

Really? you'd have taken 6 points from two games if it were offered. That's a surprise. Tall but not very bright.

Well that means you'd be willing to be on either of the two teams losing to England. Seeing as only one will be playing them, would you be willing to wait to see if they will be playing Germany and take a bet on them winning?

well if you look at the history of germany and england getting along in the world cup there is no way i'm going to bet on england

since 1954 the germans have made at it into:
the final: 7 times (winning 3 times)
semi finals: 9 times
quarter finals: 12 times

on the other side the english team made it into:
the final: 1
the semi finals: 2
quarter finals: 7

last time the germans didn't make it into the quarter finals: 1978 (where they even lost to Austria ;) ) and before that 1938

that's just the statistics on top of the impressions the teams made so far

If we were talking twenty years ago, i wouldnt be making any better... the germans were unstoppable.

But Its not, its 2006

Actually, He makes a very good point. The people on the teams back don't seem to have realised this is the best we could have achieved points wise.

Spelling it out is sometime the only way to make them see.

Yeah, ill take the germany bet - just not in any later rounds... all bets change in finals/semi finals....

Yes it is; a perfect record but not achieved in any kind of style. Paraguay by an own goal and T&T by two very late goals after all kinds of chances went begging. If you want to be a 'great' team you don't let those kind of things happen - particularly against the least-favoured teams in your group. You are expected to win - and win well if you're seeded. So far England haven't shown as much flair as some of the other teams; Argentina played some beautiful football yesterday against one of the less-favoured teams.

Sure they've done enough but they're really going to have step up their game come the next round and so far, they've shown very few signs of it. That might be a good thing; hide the true tactics and skills until you face a team you need them against. Or a bad thing; the flair isn't there.

These two surprisingly tough games might have given them a wake-up call that a higher gear will be needed. But the press are kidding themselves thinking that those 6 points show England are the best team out there.
