I think you'll be able to pick any Aussie on the planet right now because they will be the ones without any fingernails.

Keep it up fellas, just stay focussed. Stay disciplined. Stay calm.

0-0 at half time - Australia should be happy with that, especially since they've been outplaying the supposed tournament favorites and are the underdogs in this match. That being said, I'm sure there is some frustration that they couldn't capitalize on some of those opportunities.

Go Australia! It would be nice to see Brazil's 8-game streak come to an end.

But like all good teams they are stifled when playing against a team that is organized and defends well.
Or they have the same problem Real Madrid has (and the England team, come to think of it), if you know what I mean.

Having a bunch of major stars doesn't make a team.
A team should be more than the sum of the parts.

But, to be honest, the sum of the Brazilian parts still should be more than the Australian team (which really is a spirited team).
And, just like England, they will probably get a late goal which sadly will be enough...

Does anyone else think it's amusing that Warney is playing football pundit today (ITV-UK)?

Australia's D is rock solid and on red alert. I look for #9s on both sides to figure in the second half. Also hoping Ronaldinho, Roberto and Kaká will start to dance some. Australia have to be satisfied with their effort so far.

Wow. Ronaldo has earned a place on the all-time blooper reel with that whiff in front of the goal. He blew a sure score there...

Hoping the Aussies will win, I wish Ronaldo stays on the pitch :D

(will probably have to put my foot in mouth later..)

Buried deep within that sentence is a germ of irony. Australia are not just defending well but they are creating chances too. I fear for a late Brazilian goal, but I think the Aussies will be alert to this.

Your slightly masked, humble disclaimer is duly noted. Can't think of a better team where a draw wouldn't be that painful. :)

Not up on irony?

Anyway, they do what most average teams do against class opposition, defend with guts. No real chance for the aussies.

Brasil are now starting to pull the aussies open a little more now that they are not camped in their own half.

Brazil won.

Not very convincing, so top marks to the Aussies.
Similar type of performance as the English: expected to win easily, but fail to do so. Still in the end it was enough, and once they play the second round all will be forgotten. Only the result really counts.
But, the Socceroos still have a chance! :)

Let's see how the next "favourite" will cope with the pressure of being expected to win easily:
The French.
My favourite player is in there: Henry.
It hurts me to see the way the French have played their last couple of WC games (4 years ago and now). So much potential, but so, so much trouble in the squad. Talk about a bunch of gr8 players not being able to create a team...

BUGGER!!

We need to win/draw against the Croats so long as Japan lose to Brazil. Gonna be tough.

Well done to the Socceroos, good to see a team with real heart and soul mixing it up with the best in the world and nobody can deny we gave the Brazilians a few genuine scares, just couldn't finish them off.

WELL DONE AUSTRALIA. Keep it up fellas.

Right, time to start thinking of heading down to try and grab some Ashes tickets to watch our cricketers make total mincemeat of those upstart Poms.
