Would those two good players be called Wilkinson and Johnson?!!!! And thew sissies, delalio and back? Ooops, I do believe they were in another competition the English whipped you at against all the odds :)

You know that old saying "you're only as good as your last game?"

Australia 43 England 18. :p

the swiss scored, looks like france are in trouble now.

If we don't get to see a game it won't be the end of the world, as we'll be trekking out to Victoria Falls, the Serengetti, climbing Kilimanjaro and all that good stuff anyway, but it sure would be nice!

that's some trekking there! those are thousands of miles form cape town!

Not really, France "just" needs a win with two goals in front which is completely possible (although they need to shoot more goals in one game than they did in both World Cups 2002 and 2006 yet ;)).

You're right (or any win if korea and switzerland don't tie), but given their offensive sterility and the fact that zidane will not play, it's not so sure.

Just the idea that France would face a 'must' win against togo after being handed one of the easiest groups in the competition (with brazil) is pretty weird.

FIFA Refs - Which Card?

*This is not a hi-jacking attempt. Just didn't see the need to start another thread.
It usually starts sometime during a World Cup, but with the flurry of yellows and reds and missed calls, FIFA refs are being criticized. Justifiable? Which card would you pull out for the officiating up to this point?
“Yellow” = You are too trigger happy. Please cool it
“Red” = No excuses for your poor performance. You’re out.
“Peace” = All you coaches, players and fans, quit your whining you cry-babies.

Ukraine is jumping all over Saudia Arabia.

3-0 and just into the second half.

EDIT: Make that 4-0 now.
They even played the wrong national anthem for them (Togo).

Haha, thanks but I'm well aware. :) We'd be going to Africa for 4-5 weeks and are used to backpacking over great distances, so it's no surprise. You should have seen how much land we covered in Australia over 7 weeks! ;) The World Cup would only be one part of our trip, and that's why if tickets don't work out, it wouldn't be a big deal, but it would definitely be icing on the cake. Just being there for the festivities though and the overall environment will be good on its own.

overall pretty good, way better than 2002.
the disallowed french goal with korea, the penalty to the japanese with australia are the two main blunders that come to mind (curious coincidence, maybe the refs thought we were still in 2002 :) )

4-5-1 is my favored formation when you have fast wingers but england really only have one in lennon so a 4-4-1-1 seems the best bet with carrick giving gerrard the attacking freedom he deserves.
I'd be tempted with the slightly different 4-1-4-1 myself – play Carrick behind the four man midfield, a little further back than in the 4-5-1. He can then move forward to cover for Gerrard and Lampard when they bomb forward to support Rooney, and when the opposition are on the attack he's better placed to mop up.

I think I mentioned in another thread, I thought Sven might be thinking about a 4-1-4-1 style formation based on the fact he selected a higher number of midfielders and a reduced number of strikers. He seems more than happy to continue with his 4-4-2 though.

I don't want to steer the thread off-topic, so if you have any tips, places to see, things to do, etc., please pass them along to me in a PM if you don't mind - I'd really appreciate it. :) I know it's not for another 4 years, but it's never too early to start planning and researching things. ;)

Well, Spain are behind....

Just what a game like this needs; the underdogs taking an early lead. Could be a highly entertaining second half.

haha.. yep, true!

Spain have equalized.
I wonder if Spain can go on now to win it quite easily.

EDIT.

Looks like it. Error from the goalie though.
