I'm staying true to the tricolor with my S.A. compatriots' block (Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador) and thus pulling for Ecuador against Germany. They will have their feet full in warding off Germany's guns and trying to mount their own attack against such good defense. But win, lose or draw, they still will look forward to advancing against either England or Sweden.

I still can't believe this option (below) is seriously being bandied about on Sports sites regarding the England vs. Sweden match as if England would do anything BUT try for a win.

As I understand it, Germany will probably win their game, thus be top of their group.
So England must make sure they don't loose to Sweden to avoid Germany.

So, they have to DELIBERATELY play well...???

As I read that pole, it looks like England should deliberately loose a game.

Ya, if Germany wins and it sure looks that way, it's a moot point albeit a lame one. Ecuador's way back on their heels in this one. At this point, I'm just hoping for no injuries or reds against them to at least regroup for the next round. ¡Bienvenidos, Ecuador! to playing with the big boys in Berlin.

Whats happening with the game timings today? Two games going on right now apparently? What time is England Sweden?

Oh, and I say England will win, 1-0.

Final matches in a group or league are usually played at the same time in order to prevent one or two teams playing later for a certain result.

Don't think I've explained it very well although I think you know what I mean.

England v. Sweden 8pm BST

Well, that's Group A done with. Now, all England have to do is beat or draw with Sweden this evening and we get to play Ecuador rather than Germany....

....yeah, that's ALL they have to do  :(

Ahhh ok, I see, like the last day of the Premiership season. Thanks.

Oh come one.... should be no real problem?

Hehe... gonna be good game. ;)

Fast exit for Owen....

That is really bad luck!! :(

And now Sven has to bring on Crouch..???
Sorry, but can't he better choose another striker??

What if Crouch gets a yellow card this match!

Pretty sure the yellow card count gets wiped clean going into the knock-out phase.

I thought he already had a yellow card, and so if he got another one today, he would be suspended for the last-16 match.

And if Owen has picked up a nasty injury, Sven could have a real problem in the next round.

If Crouch hasn't got a yellow, then I'm talking bullocks (which always is possible) :D

EDIT: Crouch did get a yellow in the Paraguay match.... be carefull, Crouch!

Just to clarify the matter:
Yellow card counts get wiped clean after this match... BUT: If you get your second yellow card during this last match of the group stage, you are suspended for the next match!

So why not bring on Walcott instead of Crouch?

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL GOAL!!!!!

A-freakin'-men. Beautiful touch and placement by J Cole! Reminiscent of Ronaldhino's free kick four years ago. Thought it would clear the bar but dropped right on target.

My first time watching Rooney play: looks like he lives up to the hype. Very exciting and strong attacker.

A much more satisfying performance from England. Cole's goal looked like it happened in slow motion (before the slo mo replays that is), it reminded me of a smaller version of Beckhams wonder goal from his own half. Spud is looking sharp.

We enjoyed it. :D

Hopefully Owen's injury isn't too bad – the commentary suggested that the word from the England physios was that it looked worse than it was. It didn't look good though.

Looks like we might see if Sven's Walcott gamble was wise or not. Given Owen's injury, I wouldn't be surprised if Theo makes an appearance before the end of this game.

All in all though, a good first half from an English point of view. :)

Much better from England. They're knocking the ball around more this game. Cole's strike was pure class too :)

I think we've seen the last of Owen though. That leg just collapsed from under him, which does not bode well. Let's hope Theo's up to the challenge.
