Now, we'll what Ghana are truly about playing against Brazil - it will ( should ) be a good game.

that isn't saying much
?!

Doesn't need to be a full essay... Ghana have played better than the states - especially since the states only managed 1 goal.

Penalty or not - the usa needed a win... and they didn't achieve that.

No american ( usa ) fan can be disappointed they are out.. if they look at the team they would know why - as we all do.

I'll be disappointed that they are out though I know they didn't deserve to advance either

To be honest I don't Americans really care that much about the USA team or how good or bad they did.

the thousands of people who made the trip will disagree.

Still, the most powerful nation on earth still can't play the biggest sport in the world very well :)

There are americans who like football - so it matters to them - but overall in the usa - yes, you are very right.

I'm really glad that this forums hasn't decended into americans blaming everyone for being anti - american ( including the refs!!!! ) , like the bbc 606 forums.. which is really quite sad now..
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb606/F4441083?thread=3184110&skip=140&show=20

Refs make crap decisions all the time... ( and on occasions seem to favour the host nation... :) )

Oh, any fan of their country will be disappointed for a world cup exit ( but if they played crap - they will understand why ) - I shall be disappointed when England get knocked out too - whether they played good or bad. lol.

The US team just played some very uninspired soccer... I don't blame the refs (although that penalty kick awarded to Ghana today was very questionable). I was reminded of the USA men's Olympic basketball team... they just acted like they didn't really care whether they won or lost, with a few exceptions.

I wonder if they were out partying with Bode Miller before the matches?

I can't watch baseball on TV - its just boring - a bit like cricket, but its fun going to watch a live game... black and white imo between TV and live.

I was jabbing at the use of the word soccer.

I don't even get the rules to baseball really, and what i do know i don't really like. Basketball is a really good game.

i cared. and lots of other folks who play soccer care. i was actually surprised to hear about how many people were skipping work (like i did) to watch. of course it's not as big a game as others, but it's certainly growing.

i'll agree with clayj that while the ref's call was questionable, the US didn't necessarily deserve to win. it was just annoying to see the ref play such a large role in the game, again.

my point had nothing to do with how much you wrote (or didn't). it was just that, given how poorly the US played overall (as you've noted in a mere 98% of your posts in this thread), the fact that ghana deserved to go on more doesn't say much.

i think that the coaching was suspect. why was claudio reyna held in such high regard? he played like crap and caused one of the goals against. why didn't eddie johnson start? beasley played well on one play (great cross to dempsey), but overall... why didn't convey start? he showed the most spark in any of the games (along with dempsey). they may still not have won, but i think that the guys who seemed to be trying harder deserved a shot.

Wow I"m going to defend baseball -

At least in baseball you don't get players falling over and holding their ankles! lol.

What 'cheats' are there in baseball - apart from running in the "batter" as he runs around the "posts"?

However, don't me started to "World Series"... yea.. the world.. hmmm.. "North American Series" more like :)

True, but there are plenty of international players competing in the World Series. And to be honest, if you are really good at baseball, no matter what country you are from, where do you go play at the highest level? Major League Baseball.

Like I said rounders.
Not to get too far off-topic here, but:

rounders <> baseball (baseball has different rules and equipment)
football (as used in every non-US/Canada nation) = soccer (and we call it that because we already have a game we call football)

Hi clayj,it's a national pastime to wind up goddamns here,we especially like the whooshing sound as it goes right over their heads.:)

The word 'soccer' is originally from England from the 1890's or so.

Soccer is an abbreviation for Association Football. The Football
Association was formed in London in October 1863 when representatives
of eleven clubs and schools met in an attempt to standardize the rules
of the game. One of the rules prohibited the carrying of the ball, a
rule that would lead to the Rugby-oriented clubs leaving the
Association several months later. The name Association Football was
coined to distinguish it from Rugby.

By 1889, the abbreviation socca' was in use, and the spelling soccer
had made its appearance by 1895."

I don't want to take the forums off topic too much - but -
That is not a valid reason to call it "World Series".

Now, to get back in topic:

Football -
OMG - did you see that David Beckham has an aftershave branded after his name!!???

I couldn't believe I saw an advert for it.. so sad!

The american game of football really is a running and passing game. Go figure.

Yeah, I agree. Feel the same about the Super Bowl. At least the Stanley Cup is still the Stanley Cup and not the Dodge Super World Cup of Hockey. (And same with the Grey Cup).

Jeez, you guys... when's the next game of association football?
Less than 30mins away, thank god.

Aussie, aussie, aussie!
