So what now? Italy won't be able to score since they have ten, Australia won't be able to score because Italy will be concentrating on defense, and it'll go all the way to a shootout?

I'm a work away from a TV, so I didn't see the red card. The BBC website live coverage called it "Disgusting." Was it really that bad? Because if it was... The refs this World Cup...

it wasnt a red card, it was a yellow.

No, No... you were right the ref showed the red... but the challenge only warranted a yellow... crazy ref

Oh, okay.

Right now I'm just really mad at the refs. They ruined the US's chances (not that they played all that spectacularly except against Italy), so I went to my back up team to root for, Italy, and now this.

My mistake. As I said, I'm not actually watching it...

The foul deserved a yellow card (it was not a breakaway), but the ref gave him a red instead. That's why it was a bad call. Though, given the current state of the officiating, it's to be expected.

Must admit when I saw the challenge the first time, it looked reckless enough for a straight red.
After seeing the replays, I agree it should have been yellow.

Anyhow, it has resulted in the most boring game of the championships so far.

No TV here, either. So Australia's showing 59% on the ToP stat with just 2 corner quicks? What aren't they able to do? Any serious shots on goal?

The Aussies have the ball most of the time, but when they get close to the penalty area, they seem to lack any ideas.

So, normal Italian style football.

Let's skip extra time, and start that penalty shootout right away...

No real cutting edge in the final third really - no clear cut chances other than a cahill header miles over the bar.

I still fancy italy.

I am with you on that.

BTW: I think they have mixed their Jerseys, I was expecting Australia to wear blue NOT yellow. Because of that I was cheering for the wrong team, DAMN.

Well that explains it. We should have a score now, shortly. ;)
...and there it went! How could the ref make such a deciding call, so late? Was it blatant?

Well, I'm glad I made the same decision about the US game: not to go into work late to watch it. I was really hoping for an exciting match considering how many boring ones there have been.

Worst game of the championships, with the worst way to end it.

Handed a penalty in the 93rd minute.... hmm.... Italalian "fixed"?

Considering the awful call against Italy earlier, I don't think the ref wanted the Italians to win, but rather he wanted the game to be over.
