Happy with France win, but I must admit that I do feel sorry for the Spanish.

Probably the best team in the group stages, and because the French had some serious problems, they drew eachother in this round.
And now the French did get their act together (as far as I could tell), against the poor Spanish.
Somehow they always seem to have an excellent side, but never seem te get far in these championships.

Congrats to the french. I can't wait to see France and Brazil duke it out what a battle its going to be.

how many spaniards are cursing Zidane, then, oops, cant do that, he is a Madrid god.

I think the fundamental reason that Spain never does anything as a national side is because in soccer and increasingly, in political terms, Spain isnt really a united country. Club sides rule and dominate all thinking, 3 regions think they are independent of Spain... You cant really bluff that sort of lack of commitment at the top level. Their players are very talented, they obviously want to win, but...

I will now duck while the bullets fly.

Which one? there was 3

Xavi
Xabi Alonso
Fabregas

senna came on after about 75-80 minutes.

That's the problem, I couldn't see the name and never caught the number, but I believe it was the center mid-fielder. It wasn't senna because this guy stayed in after senna. At any rate, you could see how Spain was going up the sides playing quite a beautiful game really, but as soon as the ball was passed center, that ended it - every time. Of course, not their only problem, but this really seemed to me the weak link in their attack.

Disappointed by the result and I suppose you are too since you were backing Spain. Still, at least France won this without referee intervention or a slew of bad calls. They played the better game when it came to putting the ball in the back of the net.

So will it be payback time for Brazil for '98? Or will France shut them out again?

yt

I'm guessing it was fabregas, I didn't think he played well at all (actually pretty shocking at some points) and both xabi and xavi played well throughout.

I'm going for a brazil win though :)

Must be if we were watching the same game.

Yeah, I'd like to see a few more energetic bursts from Ronaldo. Unless his health improves, I'm guessing this could well be his last WC.

Incidentally, much is being made of Ronaldo's 'record' of 15 goals exceeding Mueller's, but according to the dates on ESPN Mueller achieved his 14 in 4 years, whereas Ronaldo managed his in 8 (I think). Is this right?

Well, muellers was over two world cups and ronaldos was over three (98 with 4, 02 with 8 and 06 with 3 so far. I'm glad to say that I've watched every single one of them live)

Doesn't take away from the record any more than Ryan's longevity as a pitcher nullifies the greatness of his. I thought he moved well to the ball, today, and am happy someone else noticed.

France vs. Spain match was a well fought battle, but the French were better, today.

~New topic~

Chances are, If you have been the World Cup, you are seeing macs hard at work. The world cup technology is completely either made by macs or based on macs. The scoreboards and jumbotrons and pretty much everything else that need a computer is based entorely on macs.

Here are some interesting comments on the day and Ronaldo's play by Bert Muller.

Now that there are only 8 sides remaining, what will we see in the next 4 games?
Argentina vs. Germany? This one should rock the house. Klose and Podolski have been awesome, but it's the Germany defense that has me most concerned, since I'm pulling for the "Che"s.
England vs. Portugal?
Ukraine vs. Italy?
Brazil vs. France? I thought France's intensity and game plan they brought in with them to today's match against Spain will do them well against Brazil. I still like Brazil over France into the Semis.
