Well, the one's that miss those penalties the most are the high profile strikers.
Baggio was mentioned, what about Beckham, and as for us:
Cruijff, van Basten, Kluivert (to name a few) all have missed. And all resulted in losing these shootouts.

I don't like quoting myself....

But here we go again: high profile striker missed!

That Switzerland/Ukraine game was fantastic.

I got home from watching the Italy/Australia game at 3am (it started at 1am) and was buzzing with the feeling if disappointment and still in a bit of a shock the loss came so late in the game.

Then the Switzerland v Ukraine game came on and BAM! I was sound asleep. I feel fantastic now after getting some rest, All thanks to the most boring game of the comp so far.

Why do you hate him so much? I think he is a good ref, he knows when to show a yellow/red card. I prefer this than seeing a bunch of cards and players who won't be able to play next game because of this.

I don't hate him at all.
I was merely being sarcastic. In the last couple of games the ref played such an important role, that I wanted to emphasize the important figure for this match.
IMHO he did very well. Wasn't such a tough match to referee, but he kept the cards in his pocket as much as possible.

Shameful News - Aussie arrested in Italy...

"An Australian man has been arrested in Italy for an assault on a local man following the football match between Australia and Italy.

Witnesses say the Australian man was 20m away when the incident happened. The victim suffered a fractured skull, a cardiac arrest and has developed diabetes as a result of the incident. He is expected to recover in a few minutes."

:D :D

the italians make some fine movies..... ;)

Not the best of starts for Ghana. 1 - 0 down after 4 minutes and Muntari and Appiah are both on yellow cards

This is what I call entertaining football! Go Ghana! They're playing well.

2-0 ... I feel sorry for Ghana, but both teams are good.

I only watched the last 25 minutes of the first half, and Ghana looked like the stronger team there -- lots of great opportunities and one borderline lucky save by Brazil.

Then Brazil runs a perfect counterattack in stoppage time. Offsides? Don't think so. If Ghana can keep getting good chances, 2-0 doesn't seem like an impossible mountain to climb, if they can slow down Brazil at all...

I'd love to see Ghana pull it off, as they are looking very good, but I fear that a 2-0 deficit against the Brazilians might be a bit too much to overcome. :(

Here's hoping for an exciting second half though either way!
