All in all, germany played better through the game and deserved the victory.

Lehman will get the "hero" comments, although he saved two poor pens, the real winners were the OUTSTANDING german penalty takers... they are the heros..

some things don't change and as soon as it went to pens, germany had won.

well some might say that changing in cruz isntead of saviola or messi and bringing cambiasso for riquelme were pretty stupid

taking out riquelme single handed crippeld the whole offense except rodriguez

The Argies tried to play Italian style and it didn't work for them. Yes Podolski surprised me. That first Argie penalty miss was attrocious, Lehmann is probably the most cerebral goalie in the world. It was a big mistake to try and outpsyche him with the fake run up and the little tap in. Backfired horribly.

Although your comments had absolutely nothing to do with my statement, i agree :)

Congrats to the Germans! :)

Ya know, after the first couple of games in the group stages I thought both Spain and Argentina were the favourites.... and now both are out.

Extra credit to the French and Germans then.

Germany pulled through, good for them. I never like seeing a game being resolved by penalties, but that's just the way it has to be. Congrats to them, and I'm looking forward to the next game - go Ukraine! :D

1-0 Italia. 85 minutes of tight defending beckons...

*Seriously contemplates suicide*

*Thinks better of it - England, Portugal, Brazil and France tomorrow after all :p*

Germany played very defensive this time until the Argentinean goal. So the first half was not that great to watch at all. After the first goal both teams increased the pace.

I think the game was very even until the penalty shootout. Here the Germans showed how clinical they can be. The opponents must fear Germany now, because they have to get a result before the 120 minutes.

Bah! 2-0... That's not fair!

3-0... I have to hand it to Italy... they are efficient, and I've not seen as many dives as I feared.

I am all astonishment. Both the teams that I wanted to win did :D

And since my flight was delayed, I got to see the Italy game in the airport bar. I like reading your comments and seeing the highlights but, eesh, is a whole game pointless... I remembered why I decided soccer wasn't my game half way through the first half!
