So Rooney stepped on the guy's groin and then pushed Ronaldo. To me, that's worthy of a red, card, no? Honestly, correct me if I'm wrong, but to me, it seems justified. I'm more than wiling to hear other opinions on the matter though. ;)

Yeah, but did you see what lead up to Rooney stepping on Carvalho's groin? That was some awfully-close, jersey-tugging, foul-potential defending.

Thanks to both of you. ;) :)

Also, I thought I heard one of the announcers state that with Terry's yellow card, he'd be sitting off the next game for England (if there is one). Obviously that wasn't his second yellow, or else he would have received a red, so did the announcer just mean that England would be sitting him off at the risk of him getting a second yellow? Or is there some other rule I'm not aware of regarding the accumulation of yellow cards? I thought everything was wiped once the Round of 16 began?

he got a yellow in the last match and a yellow in this so he misses the next game. Any cards from the group stage were wiped from the next round.

Ah, so you need 2 yellows in the same game to get a red. Otherwise, 2 yellows over 2 games means you miss the next game, however you're not red carded and sent off in the specific game in which you receive the second yellow. Thought I knew that, but guess I didn't, thanks... ;)

No, not 2 yellows in 2 games. It's 2 yellows within any phase of the tournament. 2 yellows in the group phase = miss the next game. 2 yellows in the knockout phase = miss next game.

It's official, England are rubbish.

EDIT

bugger the bbc removed the article and replaced it.
bbc said:
Gary Neville is convinced England's World Cup day of judgement will arrive when they face Portugal.

Right-back Neville is expected to be recalled at Michael Carrick's expense for Saturday's quarter-final after overcoming a calf injury.

"I believe there is a time and a moment for players to deliver and I think it will be on Saturday," said Neville.

"If we fail we have to hold our hands up and say the talk of us being potential world champions was rubbish."

ven-Goran Eriksson says England have their best chance of World Cup glory since 1966 and told his players: "We'll be here on the last day on 9 July."

I had a feeling Carragher would miss the penalty when Erickson took off Lennon

In fairness, the poor bloke had to take two.

Another crappy heartless display eh dogbone?

I thought Hargreaves was brilliant, I thought Crouch was brilliant and I though Lennon was excellent.

Any need for that?

CROUCH BRILLIANT?
Are you serious? He sucked! He always lost the ball and had no idea where the hell he was going. It looked like he was lost or something!

Which game were you watching?

Crouch played VERY well, and held up the ball as best he could, providing rare moment of release for England.

I said I would leave this thread, but I'm so sucked in.

I gotta agree. 58 minutes of gutsy play with 10 on the pitch. I did not think, though, that replacing Lennon was the best decision. Tough, all around, to lose this way.

****, I was hoping for a match between England and Germany.

Maybe in four years.

Now we (Germany) only have to send Italy home and we are in the final.
