I take it as a compliment that you compare lowly Australia who were only a dodgy penalty away from the quarters

No. They were a penalty away from extra time. The score was 0-0 dude and Australia hadn't created a single good chance in the previous 94 minutes of play. That's a HUGE call to assume they would have won in extra time or on penalties.

Exactly, he continually gets facts wrong - all the time

Like the "quote" of neville calling england rubbish... when he was saying (before the game that england were down to ten men in) the TALK of england being world cup winner was rubbish...

If Crouch was really "brilliant", England deserved to loose and you should think about looking for another sport, sorry.

The only guy on the field that was brilliant today is called Ricardo.

I must have been watching a game were crouch didnt control every ball played into him and lay it off...

Lets say, he played okay, controlled some balls, but was not dangerous to score a goal at all. Come on, both teams did hardly test the goal keepers for 120 minutes, and Crouch is a striker...

I stand by my words, only Ricardo was a hero, everyone else was sort of average.

When your down to ten men, the last thing crouch was going to do was score... but in his own way he stopped the other team scoring with brilliant hold up play.

Do you really think England wanted the penalty shoot-out?
If they did, they got what they deserved!

Sorry, I have to edit this:
To win a penalty shoot-out, you need luck and a really good goal keeper.
England is definitely missing the later bit.

It's only a game of football. Try and keep some sense of proportion. Sure, some of Ronaldo's tactics were a bit dubious, but then again, so was stamping on someone and then shoving someone right in front of the referee.

I wonder if Rooney will get the same treatment meted out as Beckham did in 1998?

Commiseration to all the English on here. I'm gutted myself although I have to admit I am slightly relieved - at least I won't have to go through the stress of an England/Germany final!! That would have killed me, being half German and all!!

Looks like Brazil will go with a 4-5-1 tonight to put more bodies in midfield and leave Adriano and Robinho on the bench to sub. Vá, Brasil! Poço do jogo.

Agree... Ricardo is a better keep AND a FAR better penalty saver.

Wasnt the ref somewhat swayed by the high pitched cry of shock from the Portuguese guy who thought he was going to lose his latin loving abilities to an accidental set of studs in his grollies?

And wasnt Rooney's "push" on Ronaldo along the lines of "get out of here you stirrer, wtf are you telling the ref to send me off?

That was a great tussle between Rooney and the Portuguese guys, but of course Ronaldo didnt see it as a fair scrap because he doesnt understand the concept of contact sport where you dont need to fall down and ask for a free kick every time you get touched.

I hope so... I hope english cricket dies a horrible death... its a crap sport that is boring...

Actually, I think that most of England's World Cup matches have been pretty depressing. Just my opinion, which doesn't mean anything of course. :p

The US was down a man on Italy for almost the entire second half, and yet they managed a draw.

Not like it means anything though.

And they didn't have overtime or penalty shootouts in group play. The US would have inevitably conceded a goal with 30 more minutes to play.

Allez les Bleus!

Does anyone else have qualms about a Spanish ref so soon after France eliminated his country?
It seems France have paid him well up to this point. That said, Brazil are going to have to come out looking different the second half or book their flight home. The old man, Zidane, is looking stronger than ever.
