I would afraid of this sensible alu chassi and glossy screen :). I would never use this kind of expensive macbooks in public. I dont think many apple users understand how high the risk of damaging it is. Evaporized µm thin ag coating means, nothing else than a very soft cotton cloth has to touch it. Otherwise its off. Same for the anodized aluminium. Also a wet soft cloth and hands are lefting permanent traces on the aluminium body. I was really astonished as i checked my silver mbp 2021 after a few hours of usage. Never seen such a fast degradation on a laptop.

Professional troll farms hired by competitors is common on social media and it is really sad that poor people are employed in such soul destroying low income work. They should fight for a better life. I think it should be made a crime globally to hire sock puppets, run troll farms, run click factories, and all that. It really is modern slavery.

If someone is writing something negativly which is true about the "holy" macs, he/she is of course a paid troll ?. Maybe some users have a wider view because they are no strict mac users and can rate macs better than you can. Think about it.

Anyone knows M1 sucks for gaming, no one would pay to attack it.

M1 is no competitor for x86 hardware. It has only a very limited use case and even within mac os daily use is a pain because its not very fast. I don't mean apple apps which are taking advantages of the m1 encoders ;).

This is really a low effort attack.

Is Intel or AMD hiring the troll farm? Do they still pay the trolls with dog money or have they created a new scam token like Chihuahuacoin?

M1 Pro max whatever is only good at benchmark, suck in real life because of lack of native M1 stuff and very buggy. All kinds to of problems happen like apps just crash.

Noob question - why are the new MBP's desktop class in certain graphics intensive processes but not gaming? what makes them poor gaming machines / what are they missing?
It's what the hardware and software are optimised for. It would also depend on what you are comparing it to. Creative professional software often takes advantage of built in hardware and OS API's of the system it is installed on. On really old G4 and G5 systems it was altivec, older pentium had MMX and SSE (and still do). Now the M1 has a neural engine, which is great for image manipulation and AI tasks, a media encoder for faster video production and a good GPU which is great for handling massive 3D environments and characters that can access 64gb on the fly or accurate post production video effects, engineering, architecture, product development, scientific data analysis that sort of thing. This is not just the M1 Pro/Max but other professional systems have similar customisations too.

AAA games are notoriously unoptimised ports on Mac OS because they have few sales compared to all other platforms. Feral interactive do a good job but it must be difficult to re-engineer a game made for a different platform rather than making it in parallel with the other ports. Saying that the Mac M1 mini will still mostly out perform an xbox one or a ps4. For instance Metro Exedus will run at 45 - 60 fps at medium 1080p on my Mac Mini M1, and the xbox one will run at 900p, locked at 30fps with dips below. Do I play games on this machine no I don't. I prefer console so I can get comfy and play on my big TV.

Hope that helps.

My 2 cents is the new chip is very nice but limited by lack of software support and it’s essentially a 1.0 version for Apple. My M1 max does not feel fast when I’m working. I am in high tech so I always early adopt I am getting a full alder lake system also.

Let’s see if Apple can improve things with software updates and if not we can get an M2

Thought it was slower myself. Stuttered scrolling. I’d wait til apple fixes its software.

Blame Apple’s no interest in gaming. No. Apple Arcade doesn’t count.
Too few people buy Mac for gaming only. Macs are very expensive (even MacBook Air) compared to PC, therefore virtually no gaming market share. So devs are not incentivised to develop for them.

It's amazing that some of you are saying this stuff. I couldn't have had a different experience with this laptop so far. Feels twice as fast as my i9 16" and is just so nice to use. Seems like you guys just need to get a thick PC laptop that gets an hour or two of battery life with a lower end screen and the lack of the tight iCloud ecosystem. All the benchmarks are showing how great these new laptops are and the performance is just one element of what makes them so good.

If you are getting stuttering and feel like apps aren't opening quickly I think you might have a defective unit.

I bought the new Asus Vivobook 14 inch in black with 90 hz 2880 x 1800 Samsung Amoled screen, 5600H Hexacore 1 tb nvme ssd, 16 gigabyte ram and RTX 3050 for only ~1000 Euros. I feel its the much better deal than this Mac Book Pro. Also oled eliminates the fu..... ghosting, stuttering and blooming of the macbook completly and colors are looking much better.

A video about this laptop:

I had a few days ago a Asus 13 inch Zenbook Flip, sadly no oled screen. It was much better in terms of quality and haptic like the Macbook with several scratches and very sensitive display which making cracking noises, only if i clean it softly. Thin borders means opening without touching this sensitive display is a pain. You have to be careful every time when you open this macbook. And the keyboard is also cheap rubberdome of the mac book pro, not much difference to a Asus Zenbook. Both nothing compared to a mechanical keyboard of a Gigabyte Aorus or Alienwarelaptop.

The next mac book will also use Oled. Maybe i buy this gen then. If m1 is fast enough with normal applications.

For hdr 1000+ i have the ipad pro 2021 12.9". In my opinion was this hdr experience the best about this new mac book. But 3849 Euros are too much for this feature. Below 32 gb ram this mac book pro was not useable for me and not future proof.

Hope your new computer can handle light web browsing. You are a real power user.

The M1 Pro 10c can't do it without lagging with many tabs open.
Yes it can.

I also think you are the only person I've ever heard rate any PC laptop hardware above any MBP in terms of build quality. Literally every review comments on how nicely built MBP's are and how ahead of the competition they are. Like are you really complaining about opening the display? These hinges feel amazing and the overall fit and finish is great.

Nope. Tested it on Macbook Pro 16" 2021 with 16 gb ram and 1 tb ssd. It has massive delay when 20+ tabs are open.
Sorry but im used to other loading times on my desktop (5900X).

The alu chassi is nothing special. Many laptops are using it, but with a better surface. The surface of the silver mac book pro and especially the space grey is a magnet for everything. I used this macbook barely 1-2 hours with hands on the chassi and it had already permanent traces on it. Pretty big fail.

I have the same build and opened 30+ tabs to prove you wrong and guess what? Flawless with no slow downs in any apps. Loads everything instantly. Get out of here with this garbage. Nobody cares about your desktop.

Lol. Instant. Don't make me laugh.

Here for you:

I care about my desktop. And if this system which is cheaper than the macbook pro m1 max, with 3090 FE, 5900x, B550 Master mainboard, Noctua U12A cooler, fans and 4 tb nvme + 4 tb sata ssd storage + 48 gb DDR 3600 cl 16 ram is worlds faster, it's a big fail.

It's really embarrassing that you are spending so much time in this forum spreading fake news/propaganda. Learn how to read the room and find a Wintel forum that will be more accommodating.

Thanks for proving yourself wrong I guess? This was in that search result.

You are looking at old M1 content and still handles tons of tabs without issues. The M1 Pro/Max will destroy the M1 for these tasks.

Go take your magnificent PC laptop and open all the tabs and leave this thread to rot away.

This video is not realtime. You see the increased speed :D. I don't care what you say about the M1. I have seen the slowness with my own eyes. Don't try to fool me. I have used this m1 pro macbook for a half day connected to a monitor with mouse and keyboard. I have verified it enough. I wouldn't complain about this matter, when it doesnt happened. I saw also the ram usage of 12- 13 gigabytes. The memory pressure was green, but it was slow. Not snappy. Every crappy Intel 4 core, 8 thread cpu within a 800 - 1300 Euro laptop would be faster.
