Yes, the standard 14 can still outsell the 14 Plus, but we'll have to see. The price might be the factor there, but the
standard series have weaker sales figures than they anticipated. The global market likes large phones.

The 13 was the top selling phone in April 2022 (5.5% of sales), followed by the 13 Pro Max (3.4% of sales).
The S22 Ultra is a 6.8" Android phone and that was the top selling Android phone, it ranked #5 overall below.

I'm not sure how one defines the mainstream market any longer this year. The Pro models are the ones at least here in the US that the stores can't keep in stock.

The standard series have weaker sales which means the iPhone as a whole is less in demand this year, probably due to the economic status of the continents it’s sold in. I don’t read too much into the Pro having better sales because in reality it’s the smaller market anyway. Apple must be concerned when their mainstream devices are suffering from reduced demand at this point. This is usually the period where sales initially boom before the January plateau.

Im not a 14 plus hater, actually quite admire it. However, I’m sure if. 14PM user switched to 60Hz then the battery would outlast the 14 plus.
Nah - Looks like the processor is an energy hog. Between my 12 Pro Max and the 14 Pro Max the processor spikes higher opening the same apps as opposed to the A14! How is that possible? Apple may tweak it later but the processor is consuming more energy than it should.

That just my “hack” assessment so far.

Absolutely agree with the status of the economy bit for sure and I think in general the market is showing the slowdown for sure. Preorder sales were horrid, but I wonder how much of that is due to the product segmentation on top of the economy issue.

I'm just not sure how one actually defines the differences between a mainstream consumer vs. otherwise? 22% vs. 20% share. Weren't they heavily purchasing Pro models as well? (or at least last year) 22% - 13 (standard) share of the market and 20% Pro Max share of the market. 16% share of the market was the 13 Pro here.

https://appleinsider.com/articles/2...hone 13 was the,iPhones took the remaining 5%.

I would imagine if you go somewhere like America where 35% of Apples iPhones are sold, the Pro models will be much more popular than they would be in Europe for instance which has 25% of Apples sales and double the population. Apple has quite a small market share overall so it’s difficult to judge the economic effects even if we know smartphone sales in general are way down this year. I’m not seeing many people rush out and spend £1100 and £1200 on Pro iPhones right now in my part of the world when there is so much uncertainty over affordable energy on the verge of winter.

Apple is great at creating a FOMO environment around its products… and also people are starting to gain control over their FOMO tendencies…
Every company, if they want to be successful should create products people want. All apple stockholders should applaud this (I’m not one).

I have no idea where you are getting that people are starting “gain control of their FOMO tendencies”. I see quite the opoosite. People are absolutely obsessed with their smartphones..and younger and younger kids are getting them. I’m sure there’s a 6 year somewhere with a 14PM. Most people are mindless drones to the latest and greatest because all basic human needs are met 100x over which is why the biggest health crisis for “poor people” in this country is: obesity (and don’t tell me it’s due to lack of access to greens!)

I'm just not a big phone guy, so to me it's choosing between Pro or not, no Plus or Max. It's quite a bit more money for the Pro, but it's got more stuff. But how much stuff? Better camera: yes. That's about it in terms of real wants to justify. Always on display: Nice. But do I care as it's either in my pocket or it's on in my hand (and my watch does the rest). Fractionally faster processor: ok, but it's not gonna make much difference on a daily basis. Dynamic island? I don't really care (and it pokes out more into the middle of the screen), but it would kinda be nice I guess.

For the difference in price (~£250) I could pay for most of a Garmin cycling computer. So I'm kinda thinking Pro and £50, or non-Pro + Garmin Edge 580, which currently looks like more benefit.

How would that work when the majority of their iPhone customers don’t buy Pro iPhones? That would be kissing goodbye to some serious business and hopefully someone with the same idea as you is not making commercial decisions lol.
Plus they purposely tier the pricing so someone who initially wants the normal wil be "Oh, it's only $200 more to go up." Without the mid tiers, they'll just see $1099 and pass

I honestly just don't get he negativity of this phone its kinda funny!

Negativity is putting it lightly. Flossy Carter on YT literally said people are an "***** idiot", if they buy the 14 Plus.
I've really liked his videos over the years, but he went a bit in the deep end on that one lol.

wow! that's harsh lol... i have had multiples, of every type of phone, and honestly think the plus is great! So light, powerful.

I saw it but remember it’s all about the price. 200 bucks cheaper and he said it made sense. Which could happen in the coming months.

I was looking at the 14 Plus as an upgrade from my 13 Mini. I really just want a bigger screen and battery at this point. But £949 for the 128GB 14 Plus is a hard sell for me when the 14 Pro Max is "Only" £1,199... I may as well spend the extra £250..

I mean, I don't have a problem if he just said "In my opinion, this iPhone is a rip off and it's overpriced", as
that would be their opinion. When you criticize and insult others for the choices they make as factual, it's different.
Flossy's response to me about it being lighter was "It's just a few ounces brah". It isn't just a few ounces lighter (than the 13/14 Pro Max) LOL.

All in all, I'm still a HUGE Flossy Carter fan. He is one of my favorites, nonetheless!

I think it depends on the persons cut off for what they deem an acceptable price. The 14 Plus is hideously expensive and is indeed £250 cheaper than a Pro Max. However if someone doesn’t want to spend way over a grand for a phone and the 14 Plus is at the top end of the budget, the only alternative is paying £949 for a 13 Pro Max. That’s what I did in the end as £1200 on an iPhone for me is completely unnecessary considering the lack of added benefits for my use. I’m. It going to be shooting pictures in 48mp and the dynamic island for me is a bit of clever marketing for a notch in all honesty.

I do laugh at the processor experts on here sometimes though lol. Like anybody using an A15 Bionic is complaining about a slow phone in 2022
The MR processor “experts” are incredibly hilarious, agreed, I remember when the M1 chip landed on iPad, people lost their minds, now they are complaining that nothing is really taking full advantage of them, meanwhile 2018 iPad Pro users are still moving along nicely.

I’m pretty sure some Apple employees come in here and have a good laugh sometimes. 🤣

I unsubscribed from his channel when I realized he was Samsungs back pocket.

Something I just realized is that the iPhone 14 is no more expensive than my old iPhone X, and it is far more capable.

The problem is that we’ve come to expect things to get more affordable after time. Instead we have better devices marketed at higher and higher price points.

Bigger concern would be resale value, on the max would be much greater than the plus!
I try not to think about that too much anymore. I paid $1149 for my XS four years ago and the trade-in value now is peanuts because the battery is practically kaput. I was swayed by the “premium” nature of the XS (“nothing but the best for meeee!”) but ended up disliking the stainless finish and the weight. This time I’m going to try a different tack, and get a mid-tier phone in a finish I really, really like, starlight aluminum, which will weigh the same as my XS but have a bigger screen. I acknowledge that if I keep it four years my trade-in will also be peanuts but whaddya gonna do. 🤷🏻‍♀️

edited to add: at my ripe old age I also know myself. If I was really into photography, I’d have actually used the two Canon cameras I’ve bought in the past, but I never did. I just need a way to take some fast, simple, decent pics of my dogs’ antics. So a non-Pro phone camera is good enough for my needs. 🤓

The only reason for me is I couldn't get it right away. ANd then all the little reports of bugs and issues. Where as the 13 Pro Max shouldn't have any issues since I was coming from a 13 Pro. lol. I just wanted a bigger phone after trying the S22 Ultra. That was big nope for me(S22 Ulta). So I just ordered a 13 Pro Max because I could get it faster and should be no issues out of the box.

haha good points, well I am in into photography and have both plus and max and can tell you, they do about 90% of the same thing!! its all about post processing anyway. Not sure why everyone thinks they need a max to be a "photographer"...
