The valid criticism isn't that it's a bad phone, it's that the 14 Plus could've been introduced last year as a 13 Plus because that's essentially what it is.

There haven't been many iPhones legitimately like this where the hardware could've been almost exactly the same if introduced a year earlier. iPhone 5c is an example but it wasn't branded as a successor to iPhone 5.
This exactly!
They could have simply given it a 4-core GPU A16 chip and maybe a 90hz screen to properly position it as a 14 Plus rather than a 13 Plus that was just named 14 Plus, lol!

Honestly though, I cannot wait to see how this model does, I think Apple are on the right track in bringing back the “Plus” by making it a Pro Max lite, but they need to make it a little more enticing.

Let’s hope if there is a 15 Plus it has:
- 4-Core GPU A17
- 90hz screen
- same big battery as the Pro Max

I think Apple missed a big opportunity with 14 Plus in terms of enticing those android users who are on the fence and are looking at a Pixel 7 Pro, Galaxy S22+ and possibly iPhone.

I’m sure everyone thinks if they were running the show that things would be better lol.

But have you seen the sales estimates and slowing manufacturing of the 14’s reports? I think the Pros ARE selling more than the 14’s

But yeah, I think only focusing on one product would help accelerate dynamic island development. Are you suggesting that splitting resources on incompatible display output is the way to design more efficiently? Curious

I haven’t seen a report yet of what iPhone is selling the best, just that Apple has reduced manufacturing for the standard 14’s due to reduced demand. It doesn’t mean record numbers of people are buying the Pro iPhones this year at all. For all we know demand is down on the whole and that wouldn’t be surprising considering the European market is in the midst of an economic crisis where spending is down due to high inflation. I haven’t encountered anybody yet who has bought an iPhone 14 let alone a 14 Pro .

I have no opinion on whether Apple should split resources to be honest as long as they offer iPhones in their range that are affordable to the masses. £1100 and £1200 iPhones are not appealing to the wider market I know that for sure and offering just 2 iPhones would seriously reduce Apples market reach. They haven’t spend the last 7 years making up additional market share to then snub the majority of their user base. As far as dynamic island goes?? It’s a notch that sits lower on the screen for me and I doubt I’m the only person that is not exactly excited by it at this point in time. Hopefully they develop it and it doesn’t end up like 3DTouch, and Siri by failing to live up to its promise. If Apple had wanted to develop it sooner, it would have been in all iPhones this year. Their desire to hold back features though has bitten them with the rather disappointing iPhone 14.

No pro motion, not a buy for me. Especially with a big screen.

Then again, if they put pro motion on it, that would hurt sales of their pro and pro max so not happening.

The 14 plus is 5 core already - same as the max...
  • A15 Bionic chip
  • 6-core CPU
  • 5-core GPU

It's like saying iPhone 8 slowed down app development for iPhone X. The Dynamic Island is a new feature that serves as a compact version of Live Activities. Every developer knows all iPhone 15 devices will have the pill.
Fair enough 😁

I am talking out my boot since I don’t develop.

Also, @The-Real-Deal82 i am talking out my boot and at a conceptual level. Of course it may not actually be a problem developing for both the notch and the island.

I understand that (especially Pro) iPhone is like accessory or a piece of jewelry. And in a way, it's a bit like driving a Mercedes instead of a cheaper less sexy car brand. But the thing with phones, watched, clothed, etc. compared to cars and, lets say, apartments, is that the price differences are only a few hundred and a large number of people can buy an expensive phone/watch/clothes. Of course, some have to save for a few months or a year longer than others, but in the end they too can buy a Pro model if they want. The situation is different with cars and apartments. People who earn little cannot usually buy an expensive car or apartment, even if they save for a longer time. That's why I don't understand why some people imagine that someone's wealth or of income level could be estimated based on a phone. The phone doesn't tell anything about it. You could be a millionaire and use iPhone 7. Who cares?

No, please don’t mention 3D Touch. Very sad about that one.

Now I have to hold the settings button two seconds longer to access the WI-FI, Bluetooth, and battery menu 😩

Only millionaires could afford a flip phone, as they have a chauffeur to drive them around. Lol

I loved the idea of the bigger phone, but lighter weight. I would’ve definitely considered it if it weren’t for the notch. I have been waiting for a phone without the notch since they made the notch. ;-p
can't see how if the notch was such problem for you to look at the pill is any different, worse imo

How would that work when the majority of their iPhone customers don’t buy Pro iPhones? That would be kissing goodbye to some serious business and hopefully someone with the same idea as you is not making commercial decisions lol.
but you did after going on for years about the pro's not worth it, you got off your bandwagon

It’s not ideal, but I prefer the look of the bezel/edge being uniform. I realize that isn’t everyone’s preference, but the notch always bugged me how it was just a chunk missing from the top. Obviously others have different thoughts.

Buy what you want and be happy with it. 14 plus will have maybe the best battery life of Any phone but for the price you’re paying I still think it’s bad value. For 256GB it’s £1059. 60hz screen, no telephoto it’s not good.

you As well get the 13 pro max which is a better phone for cheaper price.

I very much doubt i’ll be buying another seeing as they are well over a grand now. I paid £949 for the 13 Pro Max, or my wife did initially. The prices have risen £150 again now so I won’t be paying anymore than I have in 2 years time. I also know very few people in my circles that buy Pro iPhones, so I think they perhaps represent the core consumer rather than me, although I bought an older model new. I’ll be back with a standard iPhone next upgrade if costs don’t go back down, which I doubt they will.

I don’t think it’s any secret the cheaper iPhones are inherently more popular.

PS: You wouldn’t know about me going on about anything for years as you’ve only been here less than a year yourself

People trying to justify buying the 14 pro max instead.

Just because the PM has the most stuff, doesn’t mean it’s the best phone for other peoples use cases.

I really don’t need promotion for reading books.

Couldn’t care less for an extra camera for the 3 pics I take every month.

Oh, it weighs less? Great!

Oh it’s cheaper? Perfect.

Oh, the battery lasts even longer than the most expensive model? Awesome!

I just hope people won’t call me out on the street when they see I only paid for a 2-camera phone. So embarrassing.
Nothing to justify about the 14 Pro Max. The phone literally sells itself. Hence the best selling model out of the bunch right NOW. You sound insecure buying the inferior phone. I could literally give two ***** who has a 14 Pro Max and who does not. Even though I have one myself. It’s already outdated and waiting for the 15 Pro Max.

My real reason to hate it is that it replaced the mini. I want to see Apple bring out identical featured phones with the only difference being screen size. They should all be pro!

Yes, my incoming 14+ has SOS emergency!
I am in the USA.
It better or else it's getting returned.

I think @John981 is from Europe which does not have this feature...

Tomorrow is delivery day!!!

I think too many people are busy comparing and putting the 14 Plus down as being iPhone 13 Pro Max from last year just repackaged with 1 less camera dont realize that it packs some significant improvements:

Things the iPhone 14 / 14 Plus has but missing in the 13 Pro / 13 PM:
  • Emergency SOS via satellite* [*Launching in Canada and USA first, supported in all 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max]
  • Crash Detection
  • Photonic Engine for incredible detail and colour
  • X65 Modem [Better LTE / 5G Connectivity]
  • Action mode
  • Bluetooth 5.3

13 Pro / 13 Pro Max Has / Does better than iPhone 14 / 14 Plus:
  • Telephoto 3rd Camera
  • 3x optical zoom in / 2x optical zoom out / 6x optical zoom range / Digital zoom up to 15x
  • 1TB
  • ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz
  • Night mode portraits
  • Macro photography + Macro video recording, including slo‑mo and time‑lapse
  • Apple ProRAW + ProRes video recording up to 4K at 30 fps (1080p at 30 fps for 128GB capacity)
  • LiDAR Scanner

The main reason I‘m negative towards it is that it makes zero sense in the European market. And no, I‘m not complaining about exchange rates.

It costs more than the iPhone 13 while not improving on it in any meaningful way. It‘s even missing what was arguably the main feature of the product presentation (given the title of the keynote), satellite emergency calls.

So while I think there‘s a discussion to be had about getting the regular 14 in the US, you‘d have to be properly ignorant to buy one in Europe. They don‘t make any sense over a 13 / 13 Pro since you can get both of these models on discount while getting the same or even more features.
Yes! In Germany with a Plan it’s even more expensive than a 13 pro max! the only advantage of the 14 plus is the modem .. apparently it can deliver 5 times the speed of one bar lte/4g reception of what the 13 can do.

I have noticed a big difference in my signal with the plus. I actually saw 5g+ on my phone with at&t. Never seen that before.

Nope it’s not a 13 plus! The 6 gig is a big deal and it was exclusive to pro models last year
