Maybe it's because he's buying at the 10M pound level while the Mancs and Chelski are more often in the 20M range. But, if that's the case, he needs to start getting rid of some of our mediocrity and finding better diamonds in the rough (a la Sven at City).

He wanted Tevez and did't get him. He's got Torres, but for a team that tries not to lose rather than to win they are a bit weak at the back.

Typical glory hunting Chelsea fan

Never understood that phrase, 'Glory Hunter'

Surely that applies to everyone? Hmmmm, yes, we strive for average... It's our favorite.

Also, how one fan of a 'Big Four' team can even think about calling another fan of a 'Big Four' team a glory hunter...

Gosh, XIII, it was meant to be light hearted, hence the (slightly ambiguous) raised eyes.
But at least one thing's looking good for Newcastle, The Guardian reports that Barton isn't being allowed anywhere near the Newcastle squad.

You're right, he's got Torres. Problem is, Stevie and El Nino can only carry the rest of the bunch so far. You're right, they're weak at the back (because they failed to get Heinze or someone else for extra cover.)

The only guaranteed starters if I had my way (and an unlimited budget to buy more):
El Nino
Stevie G
Javi
Carra
Agger
Reina

Several other players are highly capable to be subs or to be starters in a while.

They need better cover in the Back and better wingers. Another world-class striker wouldn't hurt either.

I would probably add Riise to the list, I think he's been doing well this season. He had a good game against Man U. I just wish his celebrated left foot was a little more accurate.

Benayoun and Babel are proving to be excellent off-the-bench impact players and I think both have the potential to be starters.

We could probably use a winger but the most pressing need is for a quality defender, and I think we should sell one of our ineffective strikers (Kuyt preferably).

Poor Newcastle, but I think a lot of us saw it comeing with Joey Barton. Now he's a 5.8 million pound albatross around the club's neck.

The club's legal team is apparently looking into the terms of his bail to see if he's able to play for them. Bloody hell.

If he does feature for the magpies, I hope the opposition support give it to him with both barrels.

can't say that the toon faithful should be surprised by Barton's predicament.

Riise should be sold while people still remember when he was good. He has a cannon for a left foot (with very little accuracy) and little else.

Aurelio has outclassed Riise across the board this year (IMHO).

His accuracy isn't that bad.

Because Chelsea weren't a big team before the money came. Since then, they have suddenly found a whole load of new fans. Perhaps glory hunting isn't the right phrase.. what I mean is, someone who has started supporting a team because of their success. I'm jumping to conclusions, but I'm pretty likely to be right. I can only understand supporting the team that is in your family and in you.. you don't make a decision about it, that's just the way it is.

Gosh, XIII, it was meant to be light hearted, hence the (slightly ambiguous) raised eyes.

It seems to me to be a not very light hearted subject.

Hey, XIII... there's a rumour going around that we're looking to sign young Arsenal full back Kerrea Gilbert. He's been out on loan at Southend of late, but he's back in London now and it's being reckoned we're putting a bid in for a permanent transfer. Do you know anything about him and what sort of player he is?

I remember him from the Carling Cup a couple of years back. He made a goal for Henry, and I remember Henry running with him infront of the crowd pointing at him saying "It was all him".

He looked good when he came in, and I think a lot of people had high hopes for him. Then as far as I remember he went to Cardiff? for a season, and had some disciplinary problems there.. eventually being dropped. He has rather faded off the scene. He is still listed in our first team - here's a page about him on Arse.com. Providing the money is right, probably a good signing.

Ah, ta for that... yeah, he was at Cardiff last season so he has a bit of Championship experience. I don't recall him featuring against us at the KC though.

As I say, it's just a rumour at the moment but we'll see what happens. The fact that he's had, to quote your link, 'a raft of injuries' suggests that he's exactly the sort of player we'd go for. :D

I'll wait for MotD before I can fully judge the situation but yet another Robinson howler

1525: GOAL Tottenham 0-1 Reading said:
A more bizarre goal we are not likely to see this weekend. Stephen Hunt's long free-kick is caught under the bar by Spurs keeper Paul Robinson but his momentum takes him backwards and the lineman rules that the ball has crossed the line. Calamitous from Robinson although it is difficult to see whether the whole of the ball went over the line.

The phrase you are looking for is Bandwagon fans.

This is the Premier League thread. Therefore talk of the FA Cup should be banned, in particular any mention of Huddersfield should be automatically deleted :(

Fair-weather fan is also an acceptable term, I believe. Useful to describe those who traipse off home with ten minutes left if things aren't going 'their' team's way....

I almost went at half time yesterday... Of course I would never do such a thing, but I sure felt like it. 2-0 down to bottom of the league Port Vale (Carlisle don't bother with this FA cup, I agree with Dave Kitson ;)). Never mind though, won 3-2 in the end. :D Amazingly, the same thing happened in the same game last season.

Super Simon Hackney.

As the creator of the thread, I decree that the FA Cup is fair game*. So there:p Anyway, Hull City aren't exactly in the Premier League, but Jaffa Cake still posts here.

*Up until the point Middlesbrough get knocked out. Which, surprisingly enough, wasn't yesterday. I don't think Bristol City will get promoted after a performance like that.

Ah, but given that Hull is the biggest city in Europe never to have had a top flight club, I claim special dispensation for being completely un-Premier Leagueish. or something. :p

Anyway, plenty of Champions League and UEFA Cup discussion goes on in this thread too... ;)

I'll ease us back onto topic though, by talking about a Premier League's performance in the cup yesterday if that's okay? Congratulations to Chelsea, who make it through to the fourth round draw with a 1-0 victory over QPR, courtesy of a Lee Camp own goal. It can't have been an easy game for Chelsea, facing a club that are so much richer than they are. :D ;)
