NOTW? Must be true.

here is another example of a quote used from NOTW

“Ashley quotes denied

Sunday's edition of The News of the World included an exclusive piece supposedly penned by Newcastle owner Mike Ashley setting out his own "sexy football" agenda.

However it's now become clear that Ashley has not spoken to that newspaper and the source of the quotes is therefore dubious in the extreme.”

Turning away a moment from Newcastle United's managerial pickle and Ronaldo's private life (both have ended up well screwed over the past week, it seems) the reason why the Tigers haven't had a goalkeeping substitute for the past couple of games has been disclosed.

The club released a statement today explaining that our stand-in shot stopper Matt Duke has undergone an operation to remove a testicular tumour. He's currently recovering at home and awaiting test results to hear if he's got the all clear.

Fingers crossed for a speedy and full recovery for Matt.

I didn't understand it when they were tipping 'Arry for the Newcastle job and I still don't understand it with Hughes.

Both of them would be leaving similarly placed, middle of the table teams to go to a similarly placed, middle of the table team. Yes, Newcastle has several high-quality players and are probably going to double whatever poor bloke's salary but isn't that offset by a Bat-s*** crazy board with delusions of grandeur?

Why the hell would Hughes, who is widely tipped to take over for SAF, risk his future by going to Newcastle?

I'm so confused.

As I mentioned in a previous post, the challenge that Newcastle represents shouldn't be under estimated. So many have tried and failed to revive the club's fortunes, if a manager can turn them into a side that actually wins something then that's going to be a huge achievement and would look good on anyone's CV.

Thing is, most top managers tend to be sensible types, and as such realise that the Newcastle job represents a massive gamble. It'll be interesting to see who feels they're up to the huge challenge.

It was interesting to see in the conversation about SAF's successor that Keane remained virtually unmentioned.
If not for managerial qualities, his ties with the club are undeniable.

The Toon Army are still calling for Shearer, who would I imagine need to be accompanied by someone with coaching badges since he doesn't have any and they take a year or so to earn AFAIK.

Maybe it could be Kevin Keegan, who has refused to rule himself "in or out".

Either way, I think that Newcastle needs to get Shearer in there and get it over with. His chances of success are slim to none, but if he doesn't take a crack at it people will second guess anyone who does and say "things would be better if Shearer was the gaffer..."

I think it's madness...

In international news, Capello has mentioned Beckham as starting from the same position (in potential for a cap) as all the other players - implying, I suppose, that form will dictate call-ups. In which case David Bentley will go and Beckham will be forever marooned at 99.

Heh heh - I was just stirring the pot. I grew up playing socc..err..football. Love the sport. It's just too bad that the professional level around here is so freakin' terrible.

No one is going to take that Newcastle job, or at least I hope so. I think people have actually started to take note now, the place is a farce.

eh, they have a nice kit... you could take the job and nick a couple...

;) i knew that. i was just happy to see that someone read an acknowledged one of my post's!! and i did get see some of the play offs this weekend.
the MLS is trying to improve. Becks alone isn't the answer but i do think as contrived as it was it was a step in the right direction.

Fox Soccer & Setanta Broadband = not having to worry about it (aka still getting to see my Reds periodically)

I bought ITVn so I could watch Setanta and not have a $50+ cable bill...but ITVn has tunred out to be a cluster-you-know-what. It doesn't work anymore, they've closed their support forum and I have no idea what's going on with them...

Sorry to hear about ITVN, the concept always intrigued me.

The Broadband Setanta suits my needs fine.

Haven't tried it, but there is also a Fox Soccer Broadband (info on their site is rather thin.)

Fortunately for me, they charged my bill late to a credit card of mine that has expired, so unless I get answers from them I'm not worried about having to fight to get my money back. Their phone support is much sketchier now than it was when I ordered back in Sept. I suspect they may be going under.

ITVn was a good idea, but maybe the implementation was not up to the potential.

I'm to poor to get Setanta + FSC + GOLTV, the holy trifecta of football in the US...but I might look into Setanta broadband.

FSC sets me back an additional $2 (on top of god-knows-too-much for digital/HD cable).

Setanta's $15 - so, only worth it if you're watching several games a month.

I don't have Gol but would consider swapping a kidney for it.

It would be worth it. You get La Liga, Serie A, and Bundesliga games plus some South American stuff. I think some of the commentators on GOLTV are ace, especially Ray Hudson. That guy is a trip

I see that Barton has begun training with Newcastle again...I really hope he never plays again.

Most the Bundesliga would interest me. That way I could watch my other Reds. :D

You know, I'm beginning to wonder who'll leave first at Liverpool - the owners or Rafa. One thing I'll bet on...if Rafa leaves, Torres will follow. :(

And I'm pretty convinced one will leave after this season...oh, and yay, we beat Luton.

I think Berbatov won't last much longer at Tottenham. Liverpool should try buying him (he's not cup tied), but I'll bet by next season he'll be at Chelsea or United.

Dimi is going to the mancs. I don't see G&H as having the stones to step in and steal him away. Probably not til the summer.

You're right, one of them will be leaving (Rafa or G&H).

If Rafa leaves, Torres, Reina, Gerrard will probably also leave.

I wouldn't be surprised if several others left. I wouldn't blame them. If Liverpool FC isn't doing everything it takes to get numbers six (European Cups) and nineteen (League Titles) then all the players who thought they were joining a great club should leave.
