Have any foreign Football Associations made any comment on these plans yet? I can imagine that they wouldn't be too happy on the Premier League pitching tent in their nation, leeching off supporters, sponsors and media attention from their domestic leagues...

Sounds like so far this is just a half-baked idea that bunch of rich suits dreamed up...they didn't bother to inform managers, coaches or players in the BPL or anyone outside the boardroom before making a press-release.

I think I've already become disenchanted with the idea.

Thing is though, if the Premier League has spotted a potential way to rake extra cash in you can rely on them to pursue it. Would this idea be unfair to certain teams? Yes. Would this idea affect the integrity of the league? Yes. Would this idea be two fingers up to domestic supporters? Yes.

But it'll earn them a shed load of cash, and that's all that matters.

It's bloody typical this. You watch, this idea will get the green light, City will finally get promoted to the top flight and we'll be reduced to toddling along obediently to let Manchester United whoop us in front of a crowd of over-excitable red clad Koreans. I'll stay at home for that one, if it's all the same. :(

It will be especially hard on the bottom third of the table, where a team involved in a relegation battle might have to go to Southeast Asia and play a must-win game against a mid-table team while the teams immediately above or below them might have a home game.

Gordon Brown weighs in:

"Fans have to come first and you have to listen to their views on this," he told Radio 5 Live's Eamonn Holmes in an interview to be broadcast on Saturday.

"It's important to recognise that the money has to go back into the game."

Since when have the fans come first?

He always listens to the public, after all we voted.... oh hang, no we didn't!

As a side note, here is a trivia question for you.

As most people know, Hull is the largest city in the UK (some even say Europe) never to have had a top-flight club (i.e. Premiership).

Now which is the largest city in the UK never to have had a league club (i.e. any of the four professional leagues)?

Thats not the answer I have, however checking Wikipedia, bath does have a slightly higher population that then city I am thinking of. But if you read this from Wikipedia this maybe why Bath isn't the answer:

Their finest days were during the Second World War when they were by chance accepted to join the temporary Division Two Northern Division competing with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton, finishing the eventual champions, thereby becoming the only semi-professional side ever to win a Football League trophy.

So I am tempted to say you are half right!

not a bad guess then. Just to clear one thing up, you are talking an actual city as in somewhere like Wells and not a large town as say Dudley?

According to the annals of Wikipedia the place I have as an answer is a city. And as a bit of a clue, the name of the city has the word 'city' in the title of another sporting team from the same city, if that makes any sense!

This is bloody useless!

Again Gloucester has a higher population that the city I have according to Wikipedia. However my source gives a different population for the answer. I have the city in question with a population of 200,00, whilst Wiki says it is nearer 80,000. Gloucester has 120,000.

So I think at the moment Gloucester is winning, maybe we should try and find the proper answer and I can go shove the correct answer up the **** of the **** that told me the question!

Right, going by Wikipedia (again!)

We have a list of British cities:

(Note these are only cities, and not boroughs or towns, if it where to include boroughs then Kirkless would be the winner!)

Birmingham
Leeds
Sheffield
Bradford
Manchester
Liverpool
Bristol
Wakefield
Coventry
Leicester
Nottingham
Sunderland
Newcastle
Hull
Brighton & Hove
Stoke
Wolverhampton
Derby
Westminster
Southampton
Salford
Portsmouth
York
Peterborough
Oxford
Canterbury
Lancaster
Preston
St. Albans
Norwich
Chester
Exeter
Cambridge
Gloucester

OK, now my answer was Salford, but looking at the list I think the answer is in fact Wakefield.

I suppose it depends on how you define what a city is, and where you take the data for the size of a city from.

Ah well, that was fun for a Saturday morning!

Ok, while we are waiting for the matches to start today, a few trivia questions for you:

1. Name eight cities in England that host local derbies.

2. Who is the only player to score in a Manchester, Merseyside and Glasgow derby?

3. Why is Hull City unique? (Yes, I put this one in for JC's benefit)

4. Which league football team is closest to the River Mersey?

5. .Can you name the 8 players who have scored for 5 different Premiership teams? (Own goals don't count)

this a trick question and you are talking about the city of... Kingston upon Hull
I think Hull does have a league team, doesn't it? I'll ask around a bit and check this out.

I won't Google any of these, and I'll see how I do... ;)

1. Name eight cities in England that host local derbies.
As in league? London, Liverpool, Bristol, Stoke, Nottingham, Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield.

2. Who is the only player to score in a Manchester, Merseyside and Glasgow derby?
Andrei Kanchelskis.

3. Why is Hull City unique?
We just are. ;) Is it the fact that you can't colour in any of the letters in our name (it doesn't contain any closed letters, see)?

4. Which league football team is closest to the River Mersey?
Tranmere Rovers.

5. Can you name the 8 players who have scored for 5 different Premiership teams? (Own goals don't count)
Les Ferdinand, Stan Collymore, Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham, Mark Hughes, our very own Nick Barmby, Benito Carbone... and I'm stuck.

1. Correct
2. Correct
3. Correct, you cannot color any of the letters in.

Thought it was a trick question and something to do with the fact the city is really called Kingston Upon Hull.

Another little quiz:

Which team in the football league is not named after a town?
