That is all.

Manchester, Hull or Bath? :p ;)

A good result for Man City, an even better one for Chelsea and Arsenal. I must say though, I thought the 1958-esque strips United were sporting looked excellent. I loves me some retro-styled football clobber, me.

Do you think Stephen Ireland was wearing some retro 1958-style Superman pants?

Good point for Liverpool I guess.

Masch was immense as was Skrtel and Carragher.

And Babel looked sharp too.

Well another ones gone, Iain Dowie has been sacked by Coventry. Maybe he will be able to spend more time with his family up north now?

A very dull game! But the result was fine for Arsenal. :) As they were saying on Match of the Day, the real people loving yesterday's results are Arsenal.

Who, lets not forget, are still to play. ;)

Gutted to loose to City though, I couldn't believe it when I saw the half time score. However, seeing that the minutes silence was 'immaculately observed' by all fans more than made up for the disappointing loss.

I'd like to see the race stay tight, so I'm hoping for a draw or loss for Arsenal.

Awful Liverpool/Chelsea Match - this was a chance for Crouch to prove himself a bit and he didn't take it. Liverpool have had far too many draws this season already, though maybe it was a bit much to ask them to win at Stamford Bridge.

Excellent start for Benjani at City, and Petrov had a great day as well as Richards and Dunne.

EDIT: US Soccer is (predictably) against the idea of Premier League matches in the US, fearing it will adversely affect Major League Soccer...the idiots! Seeing the best BPL teams in action would get more people interested in football here. MLS needs that interest to grow.

Hopefuly they'll be doing a remake of The Goonies soon, so he won't be out of work for long.

I have to disagree there, your Lordship. The extra game that's been suggested would just leach away sponsorship and media attention from the MLS, and it needs both if the game is going to thrive. They're not doing this to promote football in general, they're doing it to promote their own product – the Premier League is only suggesting this move because it will earn them a shed load of cash, and much of this cash will ultimately be taken away from the domestic leagues of the countries they play their matches in.

Besides, if the draw paired Bolton against Wigan in the US it would probably stop most people from ever going to a football match again, which is probably what the MLS is really worried about. ;)

Hell, if you were watching this weekend, you'd realize even "high profile fixtures" can be like watching paint dry.

See, that's how this plan could seriously backfire for host countries with fledgling leagues who are trying to drum up interest. If you have, say, Chelsea against Liverpool in Los Angeles or something, you can imagine the media circus and sense of anticipation that would accompany the match – but if the game ends up as a dour, bad-tempered goalless draw then it's not going to whet the appetites of the locals for football, is it? After all, if two of the best teams from The Greatest League In The World™ aren't able to serve up an entertaining game then the average chap on the street isn't going to expect the MLS to serve up anything better is he?

Well, we've demonstrated more than a capacity for media circus-ry (think Beckhamania).

There must also be some worry that they can't get a cut. Gulati is no different than Scudamore, only out to make a buck.

You're probably right, Jaffa Cake. Many (most?) MLS fans are also keen followers of upper-tier leagues in South America and Europethough , so I don't think it would pull them away from MLS. But sponsorship might be tempted to ignore MLS for something more glamorous (excepting your hypothetical Bolton-Wigan game :D).

It's a moot point anyway I suppose, because Sunil Gulati will do everything in his power to keep other leagues out of the USA.

The future of MLS probably lies to the south - latinos make up a large proportion of MLS fans especially in California and the Chicago and New York areas. But I'm not yet convinced that MLS will be anything other than a third-tier marginal affair, even though I'd like to see it grow.

I'm not a 'in your face' type person, but I'll sure remember 'sit comfortably with a 5 point cushion'.

:p ;)

I still think United are going to win it at the moment, but I am immensely proud of how Arsenal are doing having been totally written off at the start of the season.

Mmmmhmm, we were. :) And now we sit comfortably with a 5 point cushion. Who thought we would be in this position back in August? Jaffa, didn't you predict out of the top 4, or did I make that up? :p
I dunno – I think I predicted Arsenal would be in the top four come May but I went for Manchester United as champions. There's still a long way to go until the end of the season though, so don't go getting too cocky just yet. ;)

I know I did predict Arsenal might struggle to make the top four a season or two back, I think it was prior to the first season at the Emirates so that might be what you're thinking of – mind, I was wrong on that occasion so I'll give you that one. ;)

EDIT: I've found my post from the start of the season and I put down Manchester United as champions, I didn't mention the rest of the top four though.

Talk Sport?

Can anyone recommend an alternative online broadcast to Talk Sport? Seems to me it has really gone downhill since PBT and Rodney Marsh are gone.
Many thanks,
Brooks
