Liverpool and Arsenal have really switched places...at the beginning of the season many pundits had Arsenal pegged for a 4th place finish with Liverpool in second or even taking the title.

Not so much...:(

If they aren't careful Liverpool could very well end up fifth. What good is a rotation system if it keeps players fresh but you end up dropping out of the top four and give yourself a mountain to climb at the end of the season?

Liverpool never had a chance. They beat Derby 6-0 at the start of the season then all of a sudden they we're going to win the title.

Also, your right to be proud XIII. I had not written them [Arsenal] off completely, but I didn't believe they'd be on top with a 5 point gap in Feb. Kudos.

I'm really looking forward to seeing whether/how Drogba and Anelka can play together, even if it is only until the summer

judging how well he played for alongside Kevin Davies in a lesser team, I think he will be in his element alongside Drogba.

At this point I think it's Arsenal's title to lose; they are ahead in the points and are showing the best form of any BPL team at the moment. They just need to maintain it and the title is theirs. Man U is still very much in the race but Arsenal gets my nod to take the title at this point.

I don't think you can say they "never had a chance" from the very beginning though, but their season had crumbled by Christmas. Liverpool has had their share of problems this season but the biggest by far is a lack of goals. Liverpool have conceded fewer goals (17) than any team other than Chelsea (also 17) or Man U (14). But they are 6th in goals scored. There were several games Liverpool drew 1-1 when they should have won 3-1 or 4-1.

Plus, Benitez's rotation policy, designed to keep players fresh, instead keeps them rusty. If Crouch had been given more playing time this season he may very well have taken a couple of the chances he had in the Chelsea game.

It also means they end up using players who are rubbish, see Kuyt, Voronin

I didn't want to bring it up (I've mentioned it so much already I'm sick of it ), but yes, those two are stiffs. I hope they're gone in the summer transfer window but I have a sinking feeling that Kuyt will hang around and Benitez might get rid of Crouch instead, which would be a mistake.

Speaking of stiffs, :D, how much longer will Man U keep Giggs and Scholes? I won't argue that they have accomplished some fantastic things in their club careers but they aren't getting any younger. Giggs in particular is looking old. Both are still undeniably skilled but how much longer can they keep it up, especially with new guys like Anderson coming into the squad?

I know Scholes has said in the past that he'd like to play for two clubs in his career... Manchester United and then – when his abilities are on the wane and he's perhaps not up to Premier League standard – dropping down a division or two to play for Oldham Athletic, the club he's supported since he was a nipper.

Maybe the Latics ought to make Manchester United an offer? ;)

Lets just wait till Carlisle no longer have to play Oldham before we talk about Scholes playing for them.

I think we'll see Giggs next season and Scholes for another two. Scholes can still start and run a game. Give Nani and Anderson more time to bed in, not that Anderson looks like he needs it. With him to replace Scholes it's going to be awesome.

Brann (Bergen) - Everton 0 - 2

My brother and cousin, sworn Brann fans (and respectively Chelsea and Newcastle fans, too) must be devastated... :D :D :D

Man, I sould have put on my Everton shirt and mingled with the away fans, after all...

That Everton games was good, the first goal was a cracker, and then the cross for the second was spot-on.

So when do we call it Brann and you Bergen?

Strange lot you Scandinavians!

Brann (or SK Brann) is the name, but for European competitions many clubs add the town they're from to the name... just to make it a bit easier to find out where they're from...

...on the other hand, the song does go: "Byen e' Bergen og laget e' Brann", literally "The town is Bergen and the team is Brann". ;)

S**** team, but they did manage to win the Norwegian league for the first time since 1963 last fall, so the town (or rather the football interested part of town) have gone completely nuts...

Glad to see them taken down a notch or two... :D

Good? It was a total snore fest the quality of play was low and it was a case of watching a poor team play a bad team. The end result was always going to be an Everton win but it was just a dire match to watch. Granted the goals were good.

I suppose when you watch non-Premiership football most of the time it was good! I suppose I would rather watch a game like that with a lot of effort and not much quality (apart from the 2 goals) than a game of intricate passing that finishes 0-0.

Or a totally soulless 0-0 draw from Liverpool and Chelsea. :D

"Dour" barely begins to describe that game by most accounts (except for Stevie G's ). I've mostly heard the term "unwatchable" bandied about.

Soulless?

Soulless was when we drew 0-0 with Portsmouth (if I recall).

There was definitly soul in the Chelsea game. Did you not see the effort Masch, Skrtel, Carra put in?
