Here is a question for you why do you support your team?

I'm an American, so I didn't come out of the womb wearing a jersey...my brother used to follow Arsenal, so when I began following the Premier League I looked for a different successful club with a long history. Liverpool is about as old as they come, and I found them intriguing because they had won so many titles in the past but were now playing second fiddle to Arsenal, United and Chelsea. I also was impressed with Robbie Fowler's ability to score so many goals while looking so fat, Crouchy's lanky frame and Gerrard's magical volleys. :D

Portsmouth and Sunderland are also teams I support in the BPL.

Liverpool - My father is a Liverpool supporter and as a little nipper it is only natural to follow your father and as such the blood that flows through my arteries is most definitely red.

Yeah simple as that for me, my Dad and his dad, and his Dad... and so on. Dad was born up there, I wasn't though.

Even full of smuggy filthy rich London folk it'll have less tossers than it used too.
I keed XIII

;)

Shame about the result yesterday, wasn't a bad performance and merited more. As much as you say Liverpool did well to keep it to 1-1, if it wasn't for two freak occurances (Bendtner stopping a certain goal, and a **** referee stopping a certain penalty), no one would really be saying that would they? Anyway, feeling a bit more positive today.. we went to the San Siro and got a result, we can go to Anfield. No doubt it will be hard, immensely hard - but if everything clicks we can do it. If we score up there - then it's all to play for on the night again, and you could say the advantage even falls in our favour, given that if we scored again - Liverpool would need 3 on the night to progress.

I don't mind being underdogs, or not favourites to progress - I just pray and hope we can show everyone what we can really do, so this season, which has really been exceptionally good given everyone's predications as to how it would pan out for us, will not go to nothing.

(Oooo quick brag - I was at the game last night, will be there on Saturday for the league game, and its looking good for being at Anfield for the second leg too :D)

I hashed out the answer to that in its own thread. (Quite a ways back though.) In a nutshell, wanted a Euro soccer team to replace the NHL in my sporting heart. The EPL has more games shown here than any other league. I'd be a bandwagoner if I jumped in with any of the Big Four. I needed a team that wasn't in danger of relegation, since Championship games aren't broadcast here. And I wanted a team that was fairly competitive but a bit underachieving. And that described Spurs to a tee!

Since then I've also started following Inter, which has its own issues. One thing I've noticed is that -- complaints about the domination of the Big Four notwithstanding -- the EPL is far deeper a league than Serie A. Based on what I've seen, the teams in danger of relegation to Serie B might not beat many MLS teams.

I think Bendtner was flagged offside even before the shot was taken though? That's what the match report said anyway.

Arsenal were definitely the better team on the day, but Liverpool were organized and I think either team can take the second leg. I do think Arsenal will score though.

You're lucky - I'd have to cross an ocean to make it to one of those!

And now let the speculation begin on who it was...

Well, it's a player based in the UK, since they are being "treated" by Sporting Chance. He was active within the last three years but has since retired...wait - it's Alan Shearer!!!!:D:rolleyes:

Too bad we don't at least know the team involved. The only clue is that the incident in question involves a game in which the culprit gets sent off and three team members see yellow...I'll bet that if someone digs up stats for the last three seasons we can narrow it down.

Well, if you've got a little spare time on your hands, go for it :D

Where did you read they had retired?

I see that Liverpool have decided to appeal over Mascherano's extended two match ban.

Here's hoping the FA will extend the ban by one game following this 'frivolous' appeal. (I will not, however, be holding my breath!)

I think they're angling to avoid that by having him sit out this Saturday's game as a gesture of good faith.

In the past, wouldn't teams appeal on Fridays, right before the FA offices closed (so like, 2:15) since the penalty was lifted until the appeal was heard?

He was an idiot for not leaving the field. But the ref was daft for showing him the second yellow. Doesn't excuse his failure to leave the field, but also makes me think that 3 games (which is the same ban received for the tackle on Eduardo) is a bit harsh - 2 seems roughly fair. (Only reason it was three was Cashley Cole's sass.)

The card may have been a bit harsh, but Javier should have known he was already on a yellow and just kept his mouth shut, full stop...he should not have gotten involved. Three games may also be a little harsh but what can you expect during a big "respect the ref" push?

Hopefully this ban will make him a little more careful next time.

Why Terry doesn't get carded every time he pulls that kind of crap (which is often) is beyond me. So what if he's captain? He shouldn't let his whole team pressure the ref like he does.

I didn't; I read the part where they called him a "former Premier League player" and I guess I assumed that he retired...but of course he could just be playing in a lower league now, or in Europe.

Ex-Premier League and Former Professional, according to:

According to the Guardian, he convinced three to get booked (doesn't mean that there weren't more cards - just at least the three he influenced.

AP Article, as posted at CNN/SI, says it was outside the Premiership (so an ex-pl player, who has since retired)

Bob Wilson really doesn't know what he is talking about. Its as if he doesn't understand what this game means for Liverpool and Arsenal. It is actually infuriating listening to his comments. And broken record, all he can say is that the top players should've been in from the start, over and over again.

The Pomey West Brom game was a really poor game.

If this game ends 1-1 then that will be all that Liverpool need to secure 4th looking down the fixture list in comparison to Everton. And that will most probably be the end of the Premiership hopes for Arsenal. Which is bad because it means they will be even more up for the champions league game.

Sounds like a classic goal for Liverpool to concede, poor defending from a set piece.

It's at Anfield. I'd rate us *just slightly* better than even money.

Good game today. Interesting to see how well we fared without Torres and Gerrard. Crouch seems to have a knack for scoring against the Gooners. I wonder how he would have done with Babel on for Riise and Gerrard on for Lucas (from the beginning).

The draw is a bad result for both teams really - but worse for Arsenal maybe, because they are still trying to stay in contact with United. At this point I think Arsenal's title hopes are done and dusted - if Chelsea win today they become the only team with any hope, and only a glimmer at that.

Crouchy had a pretty good game, but I'm worried he might not be around next season, which is a shame because he's a better striker than Voronin and Kuyt (though Kuyt has found a second career on the wings).

It's a game Liverpool probably should have won, given the chances. Almunia made some good saves.

I'm a Pompey fan but I want to see a Championship team take the FA cup this year...

I was watching the Arsenal v Liverpool match earlier, and when Bendtner scored, it looked like no one went to congratulate him. To be fair, Arsensal needed the win to have any hopes of catching Man Utd.

especially considering they could face the chop down to league 1.
If that does happen, the we'll have a League One club representing us in Europe next season. that'll be quite, quite fantastic. :)

I hope Southampton can avoid falling further.
Well, they've run out 2-0 winners over Bristol City this afternoon – a fantastic result for them as it moves them out of the relegation places, and equally fantastic for us what with the Robins being one of the teams we're looking to climb above at the other end of the table.

It's just a shame about Watford getting a late winner against Coventry City, xUKHCx. ;)

Hope everyone at Arsenal hates him and he wants to leave... He could always come back to Birmingham where he was loved by all. To be fair after the way we played today we need him back. Bloody Damien Johnson getting sent off
