Man, did you see the first goal by Martens for Newcastle yesterday...?

Oh, and Everton off to a great start... managing to get 3 points against Wigan, 2 more than last season...

1203: GOAL Arsenal 0-1 Fulham
An absolute howler. Jens Lehmann makes a hash of a clearance from Gael Clichy's back pass and David Healy pounces to score in the first minute of his Fulham career. The worst possible start to the campaign for Arsenal.

Brilliant, i really dislike Lehmann, he is such a cry baby and huge time waster. Can't wait until MOTD2.

Seems like the library got exciting at the end of the match.

However the Chelsea Birmingham match sounds like a corker.

Heh heh heh... go Reading. Still, this is Old Trafford; the clock stops when Alex Ferguson says so.

and with a man down

First sending off of the Premier League season and Dave Kitson has been on the pitch just 37 seconds. He slid in and caught Patrice Evra on his left shin.

Also motty isn't happy with Man U supporters

the people have been utterly useless today no noise and they are leaving early with their team 0-0 against 10 men.

Bit disappointed by the United performance, although that's to take nothing away from a really gritty performance by Reading. Full marks to them for that.

I'm heartened by the players we have returning from the sidelines (soon-hopefully) and Carrick's brilliant performance though.

Hopefully Reading will keep up their excellent performance...against Chel$ki :)

All credit to Reading for putting up such a fight, they could hardly have expected to take points away from Man U...

And goal of the month goes to ... Steve ****ing Gerrard.

Babel showed some promise by creating that lethal chance. Torres and kuyt seemed to work well together and Kuyt's work ethic was behind the first goal (as well as Gerrard's deathly pass).

I think Bouma was lucky to stay on the field and Carras handball was needless.

I was impressed by the Torres/Kuyt partnership and Babel as well, but in the end they failed to score - a 2-1 result but no goals from open play, and the win comes from another Gerrard wonder goal (which was sublime!).

hopefully Rafa's new offensive signings will actually start scoring goals next time out...

Totally agree on both points. Babel look fearsome when he created that chance and the link up play between kuyt and torres is definitely promising. Liverpool are slow starters and it's good that we got 3 points rather than the meal we made of Sheff Utd last season. I believe once all of our players bed down we should be finally able to finish of games and secure the points. Will give us a 10 point advantage over previous seasons and will be the good starting point to finally mount a challenge in the next 2 seasons.

Well when Tevez gets up to fitness i'd imagine he will easily take off where Rooney has left. Will cause Mclaren a headache for the match against Germany.

Can only hope so, still a bit of a void. Saha is a waste of time like, and should have been sold years ago.

As for drawing against Reading, it's not great but its far from the end of the world. Marathon and all that. ;) I can't believe I'm having to crack out the cliches after the first game of the season though.

As for McLaren, I couldn't care less. I can not stand international football, it just gets in the way of domestic as far as I'm concerned.

Well, I don't wish for anybody getting injured, but the Evertonian in me just want to say:

:p

Sorry about that... couldn't help myself...

Ha, I love Crouchy but his future at Liverpool is in doubt what with all the recent acquisitions. He scored 18 goals in all competitions last season though. Benitez will probably not start him much this season, and I wonder if he's willing to ride the bench at Liverpool as opposed to being a starter somewhere else.

England's chances at Euro 2008 - not so great.

Benitez loves the rotation though, i hope we will get to see lots of Crouch for Liverpool but also for England, he scored what 10 in 10 (or thereabouts).

Mclaren needs to realise that Lampard is poo, Gerrard for captain, Crouc is a legend.

England's chances at Euro 2008? England's chances of getting to Euro 2008 in the first place aren't looking too rosy at the moment.

That's what I meant.

Crouch's performance for England has been good. I think Gerrard has had better recent form in the England shirt than Lampard but it's more a case of play one or the other but not both at the same time.

I don't like Benitez's habit of rotation so much - if we end up with a new and more effective strike partnership in Kuyt and Torres then play them the majority of the time...Babel & Crouch can still get a lot of time as a subs. Alternately, he could rotate them for awhile and then can start whichever two of the four show the best form.

As I think I've mentioned previously in this thread, Crouch's record for England is pretty good but the majority of his goals have come against quite weak teams. He's a decent enough player and I think he's worthy of inclusion in the England squad as he offers something different, but the long term answer to England's goalscoring needs? I need convincing, I'm afraid.

Still, one thing I can't deny is that the guy knows how to dance.

I've often heard him described as a striker of average ability; I disagree with that but (despite being a big fan of Crouch) I can't say I'm convinced he is the answer. I think he deserves a place on the England squad, and I think he'll continue to score goals for England if they play him, but I don't see him on the level of other top international strikers.

He's good, and he's healthy, so he plays. Let's hope we get to see the robotic dance again, since he says he'll only do it if he gets a goal in some sort of final.
