I ordered about 12:09 AM Pacific time at Apple.com via Chrome browser.

64 GB AT&T Black.

Preparing for Shipment as of Friday evening.
 
I ordered around 3:20AM EST. 32GB Black AT&T and it is processing. My card does still have a hold for the full amount, but I'm sure that will drop off in a couple days and the charge reappear once it's shipped.

Thanks for this explanation. My pending charges disappeared and I suspected what you outlined above but was not sure.
 
Ordered 32GB white at 2:05am CST via the Apple store app and it is 'preparing for shipment'.

I am wondering if how quickly you get the phone will be determined by how quickly your bank processes the pending payment, or authorizes them to put the hold on your account? For example, i have chase checking. And I used a debit card. It says pending on my chase checking account. So my order is just processing as of now. So I am wondering if they are waiting for it to go from pending status, to actually going through before my order status changes?

Mine is still in processing. It's interesting how Apple moves through the orders not necessarily in terms of time. I wonder if they do it by phone size, carrier, color, etc instead? There's probably some sort of statistical analysis that drives Apple's iphone order fulfillment.

Just checked mine again. It has moved to preparing for shipment.

Black 64GB ordered from apple store at 3:09 AM ET just changed to preparing for shipping at 11:50 PM shipping to TN.
 
Order placed at 3:08est on apple.com 64GB Black and 64GB White. Had a problem with my card though and had to update payment method at 7:15am. Still processing but says 9/21 delivery so I don't think I slipped in the queue,... at least I hope not.

My order status just changed to Preparing for Shipment. 10 minutes ago it was still in Processing Items.
 
Does anyone know if apple is going to be working on the weekend to get the shipments out? Im not sure if they work on the weekends.
 
Ordered at 12:20 am and now it is Preparing for shipment but still waiting on the one I ordered from Verizon at 12:05 am.
 
Ordered two phones via iPhone app, one email confirmation came at 3:28 AM Eastern, the other at 3:29. One is "Preparing for shipment". W00t!
