It appears that the preparing for shipment phones are 32/64 GB...My 16GB is still processing and I ordered at 11 minutes after they went live. Anyone have a 16GB preparing for shipment?

My 16gb black is preparing for shipment. I ordered mine at 8.21 BST

Just checked the status of my order for an AT&T 64 gb unit from the Apple store. The current status is preparing for shipping. Order was placed shortly after 12:01 PST. Yes!!

Greytmom is right..

No need to stress.. I ordered an iPhone 4 an 4s, it didn't update to "prepare to ship" till the day before release. It got overnighted from china over night and received it before 11 the next morning.

If your order says delivers by 9/21.. Apple will guarantee you on their lives it will come.

My order status just changed to "preparing for shipment" within the last 20 minutes.

Ordered ~2:15 CST, Apple Store App
AT&T 64GB Black

My 16GB AT&T GSM pre-order is still in the "Processing" stage and my pre-ordered went through at 12:08 PST. Delivery still says September 21st so I am not too worried but after seeing all these reports of peoples order's moving to "prepared to ship" phase has me a little nervous. CC was billed $1.00 and full amount so I know it isn't a billing issue. hmm

Lol...I thought this thread was a little premature and laughed when I saw it so early. But, wouldnt you know..Im now "PREPARING FOR SHIPMENT". Wooo ***** Hoo!!

Ordered on apple store app..Got conf email with order # @ 3:04am EST.

I'd love to see a "Behind the Scenes" documentary on how the whole process works from start to finish... Probably too many trade secrets to allow anything like that to be filmed though.

I'm just picturing a bunch of Chinese workers putting all our phones in boxes and slapping shipment labels on them. Or are they running down a huge conveyor belt getting labels slapped on by a robot?

I know amazon uses "robot slappers". There's a tag outside each shipment box that has the phones serial number and imei and stuffs. Say you ordered a 32Gb white iPhone 5. The machine will recognize from the barcode on the box that it is intact the 32gb white iPhone and automatically slap a label to your address. All those boxes are thrown in air freight pallets and flown to anchorage via a FedEx MD-11. Every thing will now go through US customs to make sure mr.chan isn't trying to smuggle some coke in an iPhone shipment box. Then it will be on its way to either FedEx Memphis hub or Oakland hub for california deliveries. If a 777F is used from china, it has the range to completely bypass the refueling stop in anchorage and simply fly nonstop to Memphis to be sorted to take a flight to your nearest mainline FedEx served airport. If you live in a big city your iPhone will then be trucked to final sorting and out for delivery. If the iPhone is still a little far from the FedEx served airport, a FedEx feeder plane (Cessna caravan) will fly to the nearest airport served by FedEx feeder. Finally it will be trucked to your home. All this occurs in 2days.

For those who has previous experience in preordering iphone(s) in the past. Did fedex/ups deliver it in the morning?

Wow, that's awesome! I was wondering why my MBPr went from China straight to Memphis. I had no idea that commercial planes could do that. Thanks for the info!
