Preparing for shipment ordered around 2:15AM Central

i cant wait !!! :)

my other order for 16GB white is still processing and was ordered 2:18 AM central time.

I don't understand you people. You ordered, your order says ships on the 21st. So you'll get the phone on the 21st. What's the big mystery? Who cares whether it's processing/prepared for shipment? It's coming. Relax already and stop obsessing.

You will not see the shipping notice for the verizon phones until next week. Closer to Sept 21st. The reason is because those notices will be sent out when the phone is in the states and processed by verizon. But the phones should delivered around the same time and definitely before the 21st.
 
I'd love to see a "Behind the Scenes" documentary on how the whole process works from start to finish... Probably too many trade secrets to allow anything like that to be filmed though.

I'm just picturing a bunch of Chinese workers putting all our phones in boxes and slapping shipment labels on them. Or are they running down a huge conveyor belt getting labels slapped on by a robot?
 
Preparing for shipment!! I ordered a 32gb black AT&T iPhone 5 through the app store at 3:06am EST after trying once unsuccessfully through AT&T's website.
I hope it arrives a day early cause I've already sold my 4S for $325 and I have to have it in the mail by Thursday. I didn't qualify for subsidized pricing on the upgrade so selling my 4s was the only way to mitigate the cost of the 5.
Still, psyched to be preparing for shipment! Now, to settle in and watch my phone jump around China's docks for the next few days via FedEx.

they got plenty of workers but I am sure at some point there is HEAVY automation :)

not really....you phone is being shipped from china also, but you will get you tacking info once the phone is shipped from the sort facility here in the states.
 
Does it mean there is something wrong if mine is still processing? I ordered at 12:10am and there's a lot of people who ordered later who already have preparing for shipment.

Nah, just have some patience. I ordered my two phones only a few minutes apart, one went to preparing a bit ago, the other not. Nothing to be alarmed about.

Both of mine have moved to preparing for shipment, orders were placed at 12:07am and 12:10am Pacific time.
 
Don't panic. Last year, my 4S stayed on "processing" until 2 days before launch, and I didn't get the tracking until the night before. Had the phone by 11am the next day.

Both phones just went to "Preparing for Shipment" :-D E-mail confirming order was received at 3:08est on apple.com. One 64GB Black and one 64GB White. Just switched over from processing about 10 min ago!

I agree...I find the whole process fascinating.
 
Just wondering how many "prepared for shipment" are AT&T (GSM) vs Verizon (CDMA)?

My hunch is most if not all so far are GSM models.
