Just wondering if any one else is getting tired of people starting threads about issues while it's still in beta.

OP..... it's beta..... plus I don't seem to be having the slow times of which you speak.

Hey, one more thing, it's beta.

As I said in my original post, it's nothing to do with optimization. It's a conscious decision by Apple to make things more.... animated. It looks very slick, but it's just slower. I'm having a hard time slowing down my phone "workflow."
You're on the design team and know this for sure? Sweet!

The purpose of the beta is to identify issues that must be addressed before public release. Yes, betas have bugs that cause problems, but the main purpose of the beta is to help Apple identify those bugs so they are addressed by the development team. Apple also takes feedback on design choices such as the font and animation length which are not bugs, and Apple may make adjustments to those design choices when feedback is overwhelmingly positive or negative.

Using "it's a beta" as an excuse for the animation length is obnoxious and stupid, because the current animation length is not a bug. To repeat, the animation length is not a bug. It is a design choice. Apple has said so in response to developer feedback on the animations (I.e., "we'll take your comment on our animation length settings under consideration"). Apple made a conscious decision, in its IOS configuration settings, to make animation A last 0.X second, animation B last 0.Y second, and so on. They make changes to the Xs and Ys based on feedback.

If there is no feedback, or the feedback isn't clearly supportive of one direction or another, then Apple may make no changes to its design choices between now and release. However, now is the time when Apple wants this feedback; now is the time when they can make changes. When the beta is over, it will be too late (until the beta of IOS 7.x).

Which is still a beta problem isn't it? If the animation lengths are still a problem in the final release then the animation lengths are a problem. At the moment, we're in the third beta of likely a large number so these animations, as you quoted, will be under consideration.

If it's a concious decision come release then yes, there should be outcry, but now? It's a beta.

If it is a problem, Apple wants to hear about it now. Not at release.

Again, the purpose of the beta is to identify and address issues before release, to avoid a public outcry when IOS7 is deployed to tens of millions of iPhones.

I agree w/ the slow animations. For example, hitting the home button to close an app takes substantially longer than iOS6. It's minor, but really annoying for me. I am sure it will change before GM but b3 is annoying.

I agree the animations do slow things down very slightly and I would like to see these sped up/shorten a little.
As for the drop from 16 to 9 items on the first page in a folder, I don't mind this as I just ensure my most used apps are on that first page and lesser used apps are just a swipe away. There is nothing stopping you from adding a second folder and ensure the apps you need are on the first page in that folder. I guess it all depends on how well you categorize your applications and folders.
I prefer this new concept of scrollable folders. I have a couple of games folders on my iPhone and lose track of the amount of time I have opened a folder looking for a game only to have to close it and open another to find what I was looking for.
With a single folder for games, I know it will be in there somewhere so if not on the first page, I just swipe to the next and so on till I find what I am looking for.
If all else fails, you still have spotlight just a swipe away on any page to find what you are looking for.

Another of these threads, another opinion based on a beta. What a waste of space.

Sorry to be on the side of just a beta but I agree here^^

How possibly could one be complaining about the speed of a beta operating system ?

And I actually love the slidable folders and welcome that particular change

not really getting the same experience or I am just used to iOS 7.

I really have noticed lag in anything that I normally do with my phone.

I hear ya....especially vauge issues like ...slowness.

because its a beta. For crying out loud!

Which means it's rife with code that logs things, records things, counts things, diagnoses things, and just generally gets in the way of things, so that the developers can find these things, recognize these things, diagnose these things and eventually fix these things. THATS one of the things that it means to install a beta.

I had issues on 2 iPads where the keyboard was gawdawful slow in responding. I mean, press key, wait 15 seconds, hear click and see the response. It was a bit fun to enter half the Gettysburg address and then hear an elephant fart as all the keyboard clicks finally caught up. However, entering a login/password was indeed a pain in the ass. This happened after a clean install of iOS 7 as a new iPad on an iPad 2 and 3. The solution was to use "Reset All Settings" followed by "Erase All Content and Settings". I would try the first, then use the second only if the issue is not resolved. If you can't erase the device because of some content and/or application history, then you really really should rethink installing a beta on that device.

I agree. We are currently on beta 3 of at least 7 or 8 betas before the GM...I just find this so laughable that people can think "this is the speed of things now" at this stage. Of course it will improve as time goes by, but the GM will more than likely run faster on the 5S than the 5.

Utter nonsense. I've been a designer at an IT agency for 13 years and have seen plenty of successful examples of this.

Really? Show me one good example of pure white text on a bright solid background like green on screen? Its bad taste. Were you also happy with the Yahoo Geocities sites with pink text on a blue background that were so popular 10 years ago?

Common sense is what the ordinary Joe in the street lives by, I expect Apple to look the other way, it has so far.

So you are saying this is accessible and is more readable? Its just a poor choice.

I'm getting tired of people posting about issues while it's still in beta.

It's beta..... You can't expect white on green to be perfectly readable in a beta. It's not optimized yet and contains debug code. White on green will be readable in GM.

Hahahaha. Really? Ok everyone say nothing so iOS7 sucks when released AND MILLIONS ARE COMPLAINING.

Readable text is just something that slips through the design process? Got news for ya, ITS BETA! Which means 99% of design is on LOCK DOWN. Its all about bug fixes and stability at this point. Understand how the beta process actually works before posting. Thats like saying "you cant expect the phone to turn on, its a beta!". At this point the only thing they may do is add a drop shadow or something and hopefully wont take till 7.1 for them to fix these silly things.

it's version .0 of a groundbreaking competitor-annihilating new OS filled with amazing and wonderful revolutionary new features. It takes time to get it right. Have patience.

sorry but it doesn't bother me. i enjoy ios7 the way it is. way better than iOS6. i will take them slow animations and a real view of my apps in the multitask over anything in ios6.

I think this thread went downhill, the op was talking about the animations slowness that it is purposely added to be flashy

not the slowness (lag) of the beta factor

Now I love the new look of iOS and I'm completely 100% integrated into the Apple ecosystem - but I'm just wondering which bits are "groundbreaking" and "competitor annihilating"?

Sorry I saw this and had to say something. I've been a developer for over 22 years and just because a release is a Beta, doesn't mean it has to be slow. I love Apple products as much as the next man (god knows I've got enough of them).

Every Beta Apple produce seems to be slower than the current "released to the public" version and this seems to be a trend I've noticed over the years.

At work we develop functionality in conjunction with performance as the two in our minds go hand in hand. Apple however seem to work on the functionality first and once it's close to acceptable, then work on performance. This is just an observation by m, but may not actually be the case.

What I hate on these forums are other developers shouting the odds of "Its a Beta". Yes we all know it's a beta, lets just accept it and move on. The idea of these forums are to get opinions from others and to see if functionality etc they are seeing is common amongst other developers/testers/users or if there is anything they are doing wrong which can be corrected with the help of others so only real bugs can get reported when necessary.
[/Rant over, move along now]

Not a real view. Its just a screenshot of its "last active" state. Making it pretty much useless. The swipe up to quit is nice though.
