Well maybe those 30 years have got the best of your eyes because it's clearly not "Even" lol. Since when is one side yellow and the other side pink considered "even"? The colors are also apparent on white webpages and grey web pages. You can see the color difference albeit very minor, but again when I payed close to $3800 for this computer I expect NOTHING but perfection. Plain and simple.

I'm sure if it wasn't for websites such as this that get people all worked up, people wouldn't have even thought to look for such non-issues.

haha, okay. I understand your point about perfection. And my eyes are truly not 100% anymore. ;-)
I hope you are going to be satisfied by your new machine. :) By they way: I´ve also ordered a rMBP and I can´t wait to check it out.
Right now I´m sitting in front of a LG IPS 23" Display. It has the same "weak spots" like your rMBP (by looking at a total dark background). But it varies when I change the angle I´m looking at it. On the other hand: I paid just 160 EUR for it.

I've just received my RMBP - the screen is: LP154WT1-SJA1 - noticeable dead pixels and ghosting. Going to have it replaced.

This is just crazy, I'm still waiting for my rMBP and hearing about all those problems really worries me.
-Ghosting
-Pressure marks
-Dead pixels
-And now this
I sure hope I don't get faulty device. Maybe I should go with cMBP? :confused:d:
It may reassure you to know that I've not seen any issues at all. No ghosting, no light bleed and my densitometer shows +/- 1% in white point and luminosity across the entire display. I'm very impressed and quite satisfied with my purchase.

I got mine last friday and it's perfect as well ;)

is that my screen having bleeding problem ?

Sigh..

I got my replacement yesterday because mine had a cluster of dead pixels and as soon as I turned my replacement on I thought I saw the top of the screen had a darker, slightly reddish, band across it.
But because it seemed so faint I though it was an illusion or something but after using the machine this evening I came to the conclusion it is definitely there.. :(

Guess I'll be mailing my Apple guy tomorrow..

1st rMBP - LG panel. Bad image retention. Could actually read still text after minimizing windows / switching spaces.

2nd rMBP - Samsung - bad light bleed in two corners.

3rd rMBP - Samsung, some light bleed but acceptable to me. Unfortunately it came with a small dent on the bottom. Yay. $3760 machine.

I'm sure if it wasn't for websites such as this that get people all worked up, people wouldn't have even thought to look for such non-issues.

The image retention was impossible not to notice in my case, and I always check for light bleed. In this case the light bleed was bad enough that I could see it on a black background in afternoon light.

Finally got my 4th rMBP and the screen is good. It seems sharper or more contrasty than the previous one, and I haven't seen any image retention either. It does have slight backlight bleed on the lower left corner, no biggie since the dock will be there most of the time and only noticeable on black or near black anyway.

Just email my Apple :apple: guy and he ordered a new one again.
Let's hope the 3rd one will be perfect...

Here's a picture of the issue, the top part has a red/purple hue :

How's it look when you look at the screen straight on? My screen has some weird color gradients if I look at it from an angle, but head on it's pretty good. And what might look like a red tint from one angle could change to a slightly different tint if I look at it from a different angle.

BTW if you're expecting perfection you're going to be disappointed. You'll wind up finding a problem with every screen if you look close enough. You're just going to have to decide when you have one that you consider "good enough."

It's visible when viewed straight on, it's visible from most all angles even.
I'm indeed not expecting a perfect MacBook or screen, but this is unfortunately too much for me to be able ignore..

Here is my experience:
  • Day 1 - Perfect Screen
  • Day 8 - Noticed stuck pixel(s) close to middle of screen while watching a movie and thought that maybe I had just somehow missed it previosuly
  • Day 10 - After some internal back and forth about what to do, decided to get a replacement, with Apple letting me keep the current rMBP until the replacement arrives, which should be tomorrow.
  • Day 14 - New stuck pixel, about two inches to the right of the first, but on the exact same row - i.e., perfectly aligned horizontally with other stuck pixel
  • Day 15 - Third stuck pixel(s), this time a couple of inches to the left of the first, and again in the same horizontal row.

I tried both software and other methods to get the first two stuck spots unstuck, but had no luck.

I am wondering whether additional stuck pixels will show up between now and the time that my replacement arrives. I am also concerned because my screen was perfect on day one and has developed these stuck pixels over the first few weeks. Hopefully my replacement will be perfect.

people actually doing graphic work and not just surfing the web/writing emails would notice.

^ why? because the rmbp screen will eventually be all stuck pixels, so you'd never get anything done?

Lol. That might be true, but I meant because specialists need to use specialist hardware. It's a bit like saying "why do you need a Wacom tablet, the touchpad should be better"...

I use a calibrated imac to do web & print design at work, and I've already used my rMBP to do a bit at home and find the screen absolutely fine (well, better than fine to be honest)

I would imagine that if I were doing work for a company like coke, and needed a screen that represented colour accuracy as much as possible, then yes, I shouldn't be using my laptop screen, but I guess it depends on what your trade is and what it involves.

I'd imagine that most people who work in the creative sector would be more than happy to work on the rMBP, just like they've been working on mbp's since the dawn of time.

Well, my rMBP came today. I was very concerned about screen tint issues, and less worried (but still quite worried) about defects others have encountered like pressure spots, squeaky construction, sticking keys, etc. I had a terrible experience with tints on my iPad 3 and was therefore hesitant in choosing the rMBP over an MBA.

But I have been using this computer for about an hour now, and it seems great. I believe the screen has very slight tint issues (slight green tint at the bottom-middle, for example), but for me they are far less noticeable than they were on the iPad. I have encountered no other issues. I haven't noticed image retention in my regular use, and I don't plan on testing for it because I will never be able to unsee it if it is there.

This is my first Apple notebook ever (my only previous Macs were a Mac mini and a Mac Pro), and I could not be happier with it.

Time will tell whether the tints become more noticeable or annoying after extended use or if any other problems come up, but so far I am very pleased.

edit: Ran the terminal command, screen is LG.

After using the rMBP for the last week, I'm happy to report that the screen appears fine. It's a Samsung, by the way. It seems those with problems are having them with both LG's and Samsung's, so it's not entirely certain there's a clear 'winner' in the quality race. If you have a working screen, no matter the brand, fantastic. I have a lot of empathy for those who have had issues. My 2011 MBP went through a total of three returns for screen problems.

is that my screen having bleeding problem ?

It seems to me that there's some kind of pressure issue in the centre of your screen there. It doesn't look like dead pixels, and bleeding is something I usually associate with the periphery of the screen. Seems like something is/was pushing on the back of the screen. Others may have different thoughts.

I've had my rMBP a couple weeks and never noticed any ghosting. Have an LG display. Today I noticed some image retention on this background color:

I've never noticed it anywhere else before. Do they all do this?
