I've just received the notification from Apple that mine (BTO 13") has been dispathed.

Go to ups tracking, browse to "Track by Reference" on the left, enter your order number you received when placed your order (including the W) to the appropriate field and then click track.

Awesome thanks.

Mine is in china. Any chance it will be on an overnight flight and then get delivered to me tomorrow ?

10:30 pm At local FedEx facility SHANGHAI CN

No chance to make today's Anchorage flight or the direct to Memphis one. Might be another chance tomorrow but more likely it won't be until Monday.

Don't be fooled by the expedited shipping charge folks on the site, it just means expedited processing times to make it appear that shipping will be quicker. Shipment time is the same across the board with this company. You're not paying the shipper to speed up...

Yep, I'll call Apple to see what they say, it does not make any sense. It's not about the $14 is about creating false expectations.

Mine is in China, too. They will travel together :p. Where in the UK are you?

I don't want to dissappoint you, but in my opinion there's no chance. My experience says that: It will travel overnight and it will arrive early in the Saturday morning in one of the European hubs of UPS (probably Cologne/Bonn). Then it will travel (road and air transportation) to the UK depot. Then trucks will carry them to your local depot and finally on Monday a van will bring it to your door.

I have no proof that what I am saying is correct, it's just what I believe based on some previous experience I had. In other words, don't take this message seriously.

----------

I can't find any UPS flight that departs from Shanghai airports and arrives anywhere in Europe. I can only find flights to the US. DO you have any idea why or which UPS flights transfer our laptops to Europe/UK?

Sorry to hear.

My order still says awaiting tracking info.
I don't care so much now that I'm saving $300 over Apple and they were taking so long anyways.

It's fine, I have great patience. Besides I installed Mavericks today on my current MBP so that has given me something to keep me occupied.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, but can you explain?

How would an expedited shipping option with FedEx not get an item to its destination faster than regular ground with FedEx?

I ordered a 13" 2.8/16GB/1TB.

For the comments of "2.6 should have better battery life", both 2.6 and 2.8 have the same TDP, which means that 2.8 will have slightly better battery life, since it accomplishes more in the same time, and draws the same power -- hence it will spend more time at idle to do the same amount of work.

Ram on the other hand*will lower battery life somewhat, since ram needs to be constantly rewritten to maintain state, even if the ram is empty and not in use.

I do wish there was a GPU in the 13", but oh well. 15" is just too big for me these days.

I ordered around 5PM, and mine shipped out yesterday, Fedex to the east coast of USA.

Estimated delivery :
Tues 10/29/2013 by 10:30 am

That is not true. Read up on it here:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7113/2013-macbook-air-core-i5-4250u-vs-core-i7-4650u/4

Specifically - under medium to heavier load, the i5 beats i7 at the same TDP and workload by about an hour of battery life.

There is a tradeoff - you just have to decide if it's worth it for yourself.

Are we still going back and forth about battery life?

Maybe as someone coming from a windows world and used to 2hr battery life, I think you guys are being a bit silly.

If you're doing heavy, resource-intensive work, what's the chance that you're not at a desk, close to a power source? Or are you saying you wait until your commute to start designing with photoshop?

Come on, whether it's 7h versus 8hrs or 9 vs 11, that's a really long time. And if you're on for that long, time to take a break.

I just got a 15" maxed with a battery life of 8 hours. Am I going to complain that it's not 9 or 10? Or am I going to be one of those sad cases who shut down everything just to save battery life rather than plug it in. Heaven forbid they increase their cycle count or whatever the hell that is.

Urgh. Could really do with mine by 1st Nov and I'm planning to order tomorrow. The GeekBench scores make the 2.6 ghz upgrade look very worthwhile, otherwise I'd have got the middle of the 13 inch line up from the store tomorrow.

I agree. I was so torn between instant gratification (2.4 i5) and waiting for a BTO (2.6 i5) but ultimately ended up doing BTO.

When I ordered the 5s on launch day at 3AM, I paid for expedited shipping. It ended up being worthless.

But I decided to bite the bullet and called today to pay for expedited shipping. I asked the representative if this would make a difference after explaining my dissatisfaction with the 5s order. He had already changed it -- and said it would be on the house.

He then asked me if there was anything else he could help me with... I said no - he already me happy. He then asked me if I had heard about the magic trackpad. I thought he was going to try to sell this. To my surprise, he was offering to give this to me!!! I politely asked if I could get the SuperDrive instead :) .

The extremely nice representative totally made my day!!!

I upgraded the cpu on the base model, does that increase the shipping time?

Once it's ready to be shipped, the specs don't affect the shipping time. BTO orders take longer to process and prepare to ship because they can't be pulled directly off a shelf of pre-built machines. That's why the default configs show "Available to ship within 24 hours" and the BTO options say 1-3 business days.

Ah ok, i don't know about flights, but ye, i figured it would be a matter of waiting til monday! lets hope the storm doesn't affect anything :)

15/2.3/dGPU/1TB changed to "Preparing" overnight.

Delivery estimate still 10/29-10/31 to NYC.

My guess is that it'll go out late Sunday (U.S.)/Monday morning (CN) for delivery on the 30th.

Edit: I also opted for expedited shipping

When did you place your order? I ordered the exact same configuration to also be delivered to NYC. I didn't place my order until 10/24 though as I couldn't decide which model SSD size to get. Currently my order is still "processing" with a delivery estimate of 11/1 to 11/5.

Tested and true.

Thank you.

I have tested it for myself, I only buy build-to-order and every single time this is the result. If I do not pay expedited shipping my BTO MacBook Pro still arrives around the same time as expedited. The only time expedited works is when I ship something through the carrier of choice. So consider the fee on this fruity company's site as a surcharge or processing fee ladies and gents. It doesn't take a heck of a lot of time to "process an order", trust me, I've worked there before, once it is in the carriers hands' it gets sent to you when it gets sent, but the time it takes this fruity company to so called "process an order" is a different story. When they finish processing it and ship it, the shipping estimate time frame is the same across the board regardless.

ADDITIONALLY: when they say "Free shipment on orders over $75" you should demand it and especially if it is a Build-to-order hot ticket item, especially, so let us all demand right now that if it is "Free Shipping" then they should ALSO WAIVE the so called 'expedited shipment fee' for us BTO customers. I'm gonna get on the phone now and let you all know their lame justifications and excuses shortly ;)

In more cases when I do not pay the extra shipping fee, my MacBook Pro arrived much more timely than my other items which I paid extra shipping for.

Food for cents and thoughts.

That's great. I've just called them and they have offered to refund me the expedited shipping fee since the estimated time is just on the last day of the initial delivery estimation.

Not as nice as having a superdrive free, but still helpful :)

a good story but a pointless waste of time since it will not get the computer in his hands any quicker . Dell and others always throw out the free next day shipping line but the bottom line is it will still get to you in the same amount of time:apple:
