It actually isn't. X1 is an Xfinity product.

Which is why I said contextually. We are in a thread about the PS4 in a console subforum. X1 more likely means Xbox One than some Comcast platform I just had to google because I had never heard of it before you mentioned it was something.

I popped into GAME earlier whilst I was at Tesco, and surprisingly there was a Sony rep showing off the PS4 and a Dual Shock 4.

The console itself was just an empty shell, but it was nice to actually see it in person and have a fiddle. It's certainly smaller than you'd expect, and very well designed. The two-tone finish looks really sleek, but due to it being a mock-up the nifty blue light obviously wasn't working. The power and eject buttons are very well done and hardly noticable, apparently they're somewhere between touch sensitive and clicky.

As for the DS4..... well, I've never got on with any of the Dual Shocks over the past 15 years and this doesn't change anything. The controller he was showing was the final product and I still don't like it. The L2/R2 triggers are tiny and very different to the DS3 triggers. The touchpad is indeed the size of a postage stamp, but it's also one big clickable button, which I didn't realise before. I'm sure everyone will get used to it within a short time but I'll stick with my arcade sticks.....

Of course we all know, by context and the forum that this is posted in, that X1 means Xbox One. That’s not what the issue is. Its improper abbreviation. If Microsoft comes out and abbreviates the Xbox One as X1, then, there is no discussion here. Sony abbreviates PlayStation as PS (e.g. PS4). Not P, P2, P3, P4…

X1 just does not work. The console is not called the Xbox 1. It’s called the Xbox One. So, XO would also technically work. Though, XBO is probably the most accurate abbreviation. Even over XB1.

Options: XBOne, XB1, XBO, XO

Not an option: X1

I don’t know why this bothers me so much but it does. I’m just trying to make sure people use the correct abbreviation until Microsoft says something to the contrary.

It’s kind of like when people write Wiimote…there’s no such thing! But this incorrect Xbox One abbreviation bothers me more, for some reason. I’ve seen voting and comments on other sites and X1 is not favored.

Except you are okay with XB1. Therefore you are okay with substituting a "1" for "One". And you are okay with "XO". Hence "X1" should be acceptable. Your initial critisicm was X1 XFinity. Now your criticism is changing otherwise. I think it's just a waste of time pet peeve you're trying to validate. I really couldn't care less what people go with so long as it communicates which console they are referring to and X1 does just that.

Also this is a dumb conversation for a PS4 thread so I've had my say and I'm done... feel free to rebut if you like, but don't anticipate a response unless you blow my mind.

Well, no. Xfinity was not my initial criticsm. It was just an additional reason, of many, why X1 does not work as an abbreviation for the Xbox One. Even if there was no X1, Xfinity product, it would still be an inappropriate abbreviation.

Yeah, XB1 should technically not be used, either. But it at least has the "XB" in there. XO, XBO, XB1, XBOne are all appropriate. X1 is not.

This the first time I've been in a discussion about something as mundane as an abbreviation. So, this is interesting... Oh, one other comparison to using "X1" is calling iPod Touch an, "iTouch."

But, yeah, this is a PS4 thread. So, I think I made my point and will stop here.

Had an email from Game the other day confirming my launch day delivery guarantee. Also, they gave me the option to upgrade my bundle, so I went for the Console + Killzone + Extra Controller + Camera for £450.

Hopefully I can bag one, they only have a limited number. Only two months now!

Bundles

Game rang me today with some info on the bundles that will be available. They basically said;
You are guaranteed one for launch day because you were one of the first to pre order.
You can chose from 3 bundles; Mega Bundle, including Killzone, extra controller & PS4 camera for £450.
Watchdogs/Killzone bundle with the game - £10 saving.

I chose the mega bundle.

Still have my "Launch Day Guaranteed" PS4 on preorder with Amazon. Might cancel it though. Looking through the launch title list I'm just not seeing anything, and the few that I do want are coming to PC anyway. No different with the XBox One either. I still have time to cancel the order, just not sure if the PS4 makes sense for me... at least until some exclusives come out (like Naughty Dog titles).

I don't like the M$ strategy of all those exclusive's, but I do think it is smart (if not slimy) business. Basically, I see a bunch of games coming out for the PS3 & PS4, and the XBOX 360 & XBone. The third party developers have to make as much money as possible, so they want to get the games onto as many platforms as possible.

It is hard to get excited about a next-gen game when you can get the same game on your current console (although, that doesn't seem to stop any of us in this forum from buying the next new thing ;) )

Upgraded my PS4 to the killzone mega bundle and got my invite for midnight launch with freebies promised :)

Sony's advertising is always amazing. That advert brought back all the feels - down to the Vib Ribbon poster on the wall, the boot up sound of the original PlayStation and the authentic white Dominos pizza boxes from the 90s.

So tempted to dig my PlayStation out of the loft just to hear it boot again.

With drive club getting delayed and really only 1 game looking good at launch to me (Knack) I am debating cancelling my pre-order and just buying one next spring when there are more games out.

After a few Generations of being the early adopter I'm kinda tired of seeing a big ticket item sit and collect dust or just buying software I don't really want in order to use it. I had over 100 games on the PS3, some never left the shrink wrap, some got played once and thats it, I'm trying to be more cautious and careful this time around lol

Exactly why I decided not to get a launch system. No real negative to waiting since you have so many other games still to play. Plus, if you wait until next year, you may get a price drop, an extra free game or other incentives. If there are so few PS4 games to play until next year, might as well wait and save money in the process....and catch up on your current game library.

Yeah though many launch titles are also available on ps3/wiiU/360 I am still keeping my pre order because
1) ill get a ps4 at somepoint regardless so why not at launch and
2) if i am buying Assasins Creed, Lego Marvel and others then I may as well be playing 'the best' console version of those games if I'm paying good money rather than knowing I'm spending $50-60 on a technically inferior version.

If you can afford it and you plan on buying many of the titles that are launched (COD/Battlefield 4) etc, then why not just buy the console now and enjoy the best versions of those games and look forward to exclusives later..... your going to spend the same money eventually anyway.

Thats what's keeping me from cancelling it lol. However Knack is the only game for now that really sticks out to me. I really don't like Ass Creed games, COD meh, BF4 maybe, KZ meh..

I do want The Order 1861 (or whatever that title is called) and thats due in December I think.

I doubt I'll really cancel it, im too much of a gadget whore to actually do that.

Didnt know this forum had a console section, awesome.

Pre-ordered through Amazon so hoping it comes on launch day as expected.

Thinking BF4 will be my only game at first but forcing myself to try games I wouldnt be into to reallyenjoy the PS4.

Pre ordered in July to get it on release day, I went in to gamestop the other day to make my final payment and I saw a guy picking up a dual shock 4 controller! I also preordered COD Ghosts and 2k14!
