Well, I guess if all you want to do is play PS4 games.

So much for "doesn't need the Internet" otherwise...

This is not a big deal. There are bound to be updates in the future. Granted, this should have been included prior to launch. With that said, PS4 stance on internet/data was regarding the "always connected" issue. It's been standard practice to have some sort of connection for updates. Even if you don't have a direct connection to the internet via the PS4, I wouldn't be surprised that one could do the update via usb once the file is downloaded to a storage device (PS3 has this method).

Honestly if we were comparing recent "snafus" I would say the rumor about the Xbox One resolution issue is a bigger deal...

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/10/28/call-of-duty-native-1080p-on-ps4-720p-on-xbox-one

I at least give Sony credit for being open about issues (as small as they have been so far), where as MS PR keeps stumbling and does not know how to handle issues. The resolution issue (if it exists) is going to get fixed, but MS should get out in front of it. It's going to get out, so might as well be open about it.

I've said it before and will say it again. Both consoles will do just fine... I just don't think you will see the MS dominance we saw at the beginning of the last generation (not counting Nintendo). Sony has definitely learned from their mistakes and has done a lot right to position themselves well this generation.

That's likely to do with licensing issues, the tangled mess they are.

Exactly, what we're seeing now is an old console manufacturer using its experience. It's going to be an interesting 12 months that's for sure;

-The Wii U will have a lot of big titles out for the holiday
-The Xbox 1 looks to be having performance problems
-Both Xbox and PS4 have exclusives/big multiplatform titles delayed
-GTA5 exists on PS3/Xbox 360 only

I corrected that for truth.

I'm still on the fence about keeping my PS4 preorder, the WiiU really burnt me. 1 year later and like 3 titles that are worth buying to me..

I corrected that for truth.

They've got a hugely hyped up Mario title before Christmas and recent ones like Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3, that new Sonic game and *shudders* Wii U Party for those types of people.
On top of a good library with New Mario+Luigi and Monster Hunter.

I honestly didn't think much of their decent lineup until people on my social media feeds started to slowly cancel their Xbox and PS4 preorders to pick up Wii U's instead due to titles being delayed. It reminds me of the slow year for the 3DS before one Christmas hit when it had all the right titles available.

I'm getting a launch console, and this bothers me..... *quickly does some calculations*..... exactly zero.

If a launch day update is the difference between it being delayed or not, I'll take it. At 300 MB, it should delay my enjoyment of my PS4 by mere minutes.

Do we know the ps plus games that will be downloadable at launch? or any other digital games?

PS4 Official FAQ

Over 160+ questions answered... looking through it now.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/10/30/ps4-the-ultimate-faq-north-america/

EDIT: Woah... Skimmed through the FAQ and most of it was already pretty much known, or not a surprise. However, the bit about the Vita being able to remote play PS4 games OUTSIDE the home network caught a bit by surprise... No clue if performance will be any good, but interesting IMO.

Can Remote Play work outside the user’s home network?
We strongly recommend that Remote Play be used within the same WiFi network where PS4 is connected. Remote Play may or may not work over a wide area network. For Remote Play to function over a wide area network, a robust and stable WiFi connection and broadband Internet connection is required, and the local area network where PS4 is connected must be configured to permit the PS Vita system to access PS4.

I am having trouble deciding between AC4 and Knack as my third launch title (only buying three games initially as I think 4 would be overwhelming/waste of money).

Who is getting Knack and who is getting AC4 on PS4? Why?

Only reason that I am not sure about Knack is that it has a fixed camera (urgh) and I am not sure if it feels 'next gen' enough?

Knack was the first game I wanted out of the PS4 lineup. It may not appear to "look" next-gen due to the cartoonish graphics/characters, but I believe the "next-fen" part of Knack is the physics elements and gameplay.

I am also getting AC4 because it just looks too darn cool not to. I have not been a big fan of the AC franchise... I played a little of AC1 and AC2, but could not get into either. I have been playing AC3 for the last week and am really liking it which made me decide on AC4.

What's are the other two games you have decided on?

I'm done with the AC franchise, they excel in one thing, repetition..

I preordered Knack, Killzone, and Driveclub. Driveclub got delayed and I have Killzone and a controller right now (its fun to stare at it Sony, you tease).

I might pick up BF4 at launch but ill likely just stick with the two games I have since I also have a huge PS3 backlog that I have yet to even take a small notch out of.

So finalised my launch lineup.

Knack
Lego Marvel Heroes
Skylanders Swap Force (im already upto 19 swapforce characters)
Assassin's Creed 4

Killzone Mega Pack
(Extra controller, camera and killzone)

$orted!!!

This is what I have pre-ordered:

Knack (Amazon PS4 Knack bundle)
Killzone
Assassin's Creed 4
Call of Duty: Ghosts

That should tide me over for the holidays and until more games are launched.

Amazon.de sent a "buy 2 get 1 free" offer (promotion code) because i had PS4 and haven't order any games yet:

the choices for the 2 games were cod:ghost, bf4,fifa14, AC4, need for speed:rivals
and for the free game: Killzone,Knack or Driveclub

went with BF4, AC4 and Knack since i wanted BF4 for launch, wanted to buy AC4 after christmas anyway, and choose Knack over Killzone because i already have a multiplayer shooter and over driveclub, because i'll want to try out the PSN+ version first and rather get Ubisofts The Crew next year for my racing itch

wouldn't have bought Knack for full price but i prefer some gameply variation, i'm sure a teenager somewhere went all gun-ho with BF, Ghosts and Killzone ;)

edit on PSN+ titles: Driveclub will be one when it ships, as repalcement because of the delay they went with the PSN title Contrast for the launch,
Resogun is PSN+ free game as well for the launch

also i'm gonna try out some of those F2P games: War Thunder (WW2 planes ? count me in), and perhaps those 2 F2P multipalyer shooters

all together should be enough to keep me occupied untill The Order 18xx and Infamous: second Son launch

Had both PS4 and Xbox One preordered. Got Forza 5 with the One and ACBF and watch dogs with the PS. Cancelled the PS4 for the moment as watch dogs is delayed till May/June 2014. Nothing else on the PS excites me at the moment so will stick with the PS3 until that changes. Only Forza 5 barely made me stick with a day one purchase of the Xbox, this new gen is a slow burner, that's for sure.

Seriously considered building a gaming rig with the cash from both console preorders, would build a PC with graphics neither console could achieve. :(

Interesting....... looking at folks here and older posts on PS4.

Knack seems to be more popular NOW we're only a couple weeks away from launch than it was way back in e3.

I always had it in mind as I'm a big kid at heart (not in a creepy South Parkesque Micheal Jackson way), but what changed for those of you that have decided to go for it over last few weeks?

I got the RROD many times during the xbox launch (sent in my console a few times).

anyways, my question is, what is Sony's warranty? Can you buy extended? Has anyone bought extended from Sony? How was the service?

Also, I see you can get a warranty through Amazon when you buy the console. Anyone buy that? have to use it?

I believe the standard warranty is 1 year. As for extended warranties, Sony has not released the details for the PS4 AFAIK. The one Amazon sells is through Square Trade I believe. Not sure what the price Amazon is offering, but you can usually get cheaper deal directly through Square Trade by using a 30-40% coupon that seems to always be floating around somewhere.

i think it's the appeal of being a very different game/new IP (just like Ryse on the xbox one)

because if one looks at the lineup of both one can see plenty of shooters or sequels
i personally chose it because amazon offered a choice for a free game if i bought two others (which i wanted anyway)
-the new Killzone strikes me as a game very similar to Crysis (more freedom, cloaking mechanics, marking out targets/approaches before you attack), perhaps the multiplayer is great but i'm already buying Battlefield
- drive club being PSN+ title anyway

so Knack was the obvious voice with the price reduced (~46 on offer), at that price it was worth the shot

IMHO they should perhaps made it an 49/59 title ... 69 bucks without any special offers ? i would have skipped it

I hated AC3, it got incredibly boring after a while and I couldn't force myself to finish it in the end. But AC4 looks absolutely beautiful. So it's a tough one.

My launch line up is Killzone (Got the Mega Pack pre ordered with controller and Playstation camera), Fifa 14 (because a few friends will be getting it) and I can't decide on the last one, it would have been Drive Club because I am a petrol head but with it being delayed I am stuck.

I want Knack simply because it just looks fun..... Oh and Mark Cerny!

I didn't preorder, where do you think I'd be better off waiting in line for one? I can probably get in line at 6 or 7pm for the midnight release.

Launch Titles are getting middling reviews - but I'm not concerned.

Kameo & Perfect Dark were great fun for me and they were critically panned at launch for 360 too.

i suspect after the last generation launches with overly generous reviews, they are now really swinging in the opposite direction just to compensate (didn't some review perfect dark zero with 9.0 etc. ?)

personally i hope for a broader use of the review spectrum instead of the usual 7.0 to 9.8 which is actually used for 95% of all games ;)
