OMG!! Resident Evil: Village

I guess the question is: cross platform (i.e., also on XBox?)

Horizon 2 or something please.

Oh wow, now that's fantastic.

Was that Lance Reddick??

Well, this is interesting ... optical vs. non-optical versions!

I came away impressed and excited. A lot of games I didn’t care about, but a handful that I do and that’s all I can ask for from a launch event. The console looks great! Excited to try and nab one this holiday season.

Digital Only version Smart Move.

I wonder what the price difference will be, but it's a really neat play, don't add the extra cost for people who don't want an optical player / physical copies of games.

I did like this trailer a lot.

That one was pretty excellent too (meant to post it above), beautiful style, interesting game play, narrative driven.

I’m gonna guess $50.

$499/$449

Yeah, I can't image in 2020 an optical drive accounting for much cost, __maybe__ $79 at the most (or ~$50 like you indicated).

Of course. PS5, XBSX and PC.

Thanks, yeah, makes sense, though I haven't kept up with goings-on in the gaming industry as of late, I wasn't 100% if anything (like RE) had moved to an exclusive title (I realize from a revenue/biz perspective it makes sense to be cross platform).

Digital Only version Smart Move.

yeah, but i thought they were gonna put the larger 4K games on UHD blu-ray for quicker installs...

some of the "cutsie games" i think I'd rather play on the Switch...

i have Astrobot on PSVR and it's a lot of fun... hopefully they'll add VR to the PS5 game...

I will be buying this first year (something I try not to do with consoles) if it's backwards pat with the backlog of PS4 games I own that I haven't played, and if the fans kick in way less than mine does. I have a pro, and it still sounds like a jet engine pretty often. Love the design language though, feels very "future is now." Hopefully Gamestop is still around in November (and the virus isn't destroying my part of the country) so I can do a trade in and get this a bit cheaper.

Why would someone buy the model WITHOUT the physical Bluray disc rader? is it going to cost more or is there another reason im not seeing?

Also, do we know of any preorder dates?

I freakin’ missed the event due to work, even though I was working from home, I had no time to tune-in.

@Burningtime [Thoughts on the new console?]

Lemme recap my thoughts:

1.) It’s like Sony seriously listened to their ‘fan base’ and not only made a console that makes everything else Look archaic, but they manufactured it in white! The new PS5 makes my PS4 Pro look like an Atari.😁 Props to Sony‘s engineers big time for the design/color.

2.) I just want to know when gaming sites are going to start respecting Capcom more. No one saw RE: The village coming and yet they’ve been putting out masterpieces with RE:2/Re:3 remakes, RE:biohazard for the last three years, and now this stunning demo? In terms of AAA titles, Capcom I would put at the top with Rockstar and Naughty dog (With CDProjektRed not far behind). That’s how good they are, and their storylines are always on point.

3.) The ‘Digital console‘ is brilliant. And obviously that’s the era that were is a digital world where Physical media of games is becoming absent more and more.

4.)The pricing-

The only thing I think that’s going to hurt Sony, is the economic downturn and when you look at the price of what consoles cost (In terms of tech/design/accessories), I think it might staple some other sales, so I’m hoping the pricing is competitive enough where in the least they have some type of pre-order offer/bonus for ‘console trade-in, which should be helpful around the holiday time frame.

I haven’t had an optical drive in my PCs for the past 9 years or so, but I think there‘s still a strong case for them in consoles. The ability to sell/trade unwanted games and finding cheap pre owned games at retail stores. At least here in Australia games can launch in retail stores for ~$79 vs $99 digital.

Really keen on Gran Turismo, Project Athia, Stray, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Pragmata and Horizon.

Anyone notice that a couple of the games used a lot of the features from the Unreal 5 demo? I was floored.

Digital only will be cheaper. I have a feeling it'll be like the 20GB PS3.... there to say they have a lower MSRP, but the BluRay version will be the only one you can actually find in stores.

Let's be honest. The disc these days is simply a key that unlocks the mandatory day one "patch" that is larger than the disc anyway.

I found it not that impressive. The only thing that piqued my interest was Horizon Zero Dawn 2, the 4K trailer looks amazing. Very little “future of gaming” or next-gen showcasing for that matter. Consider me reserved; I will wait and see how this turns out, given that I haven’t seen any launch-day exclusives yet that I would want to buy the PS5 for.

The PS5 hardware design is an acquired taste; I personally do not like it at all. I can live with the shape, but not the colour. It won’t look good in my living room. The digital-only version makes me a bit worried that Sony might use this as the entry model and price the Blu-ray version higher than what people expected. Digital-only for me is out of the question, the prices of digital games on the PS Store are never as low as Blu-Rays.

Pretty good showing.

Most excited about Demon's Souls! I love the Soulsborne games, but I never really played this one. Started it a few years ago, but then foolishly started fighting the first NPC who appeared in the hub area (didn't know better). He was way too strong, and he would always slaughter me when I started my game, so I was stuck. Then got sidetracked by other games and never picked it back up.

Horizon sequel looks good, but I have yet to play Zero Dawn. Is it really that good?

Other games looked mostly good, but nothing that would make me rush to buy a PS5. Ratchet & Clank trailer was too hectic and confusing. Sackboy looks fun, but I didn't see anything that shouldn't be possible on a PS4.

Console design doesn't really speak to me. Looks like it could be a new skyscraper in Dubai. I actually like the new XBOX design better.

Digital only version is a good idea though. If they can sell this for $399 and the other version for $449, I think they'll be in great shape!

Not a lot of games that could seduce me, except obviously Horizon 2...

Ow, and for those still wondering, the PS5 doesn't haven't to stand;

That's great news! Was wondering about that.

The console design looks horrific in my opinion. Makes the PS3 Foreman grill edition in piano black and spiderman font almost attractive. Almost. :) What were they smoking... A huge glowing burrito wrap that sticks out like a sore thumb no matter where you place it. Doubles up as a female repellant I bet.

I assume price difference for digital vs standard will be 100, leading to 399 vs 499 (insert currency here). It'll give off the impression that the price point for 4K hasn't changed since PS4 Pro. It's not just the savings for the BR drive but also the fact that you are entirely dependant on their in store purchases. No 2nd hand, no borrowing, no reselling of unwanted titles. So they are bound to make that money back tenfold.

Games wise not too bad I think: a lot of safe bets, sequels, remakes, fan favourites - though no exciting teases title like they had previously with e.g. the Last Guardian. But some almost guaranteed hits that look like some of them could truly hit the shelves well within the first year.

Not only that but in the USA it's dirt cheap to rent Blu-ray discs from Redbox machines. I do it a lot and play them on my PS4.

I still can't believe that I finished that game. I normally hate games like that. The designers were pure evil. There was no way to pause the game (remember the PS3 couldn't "suspend" games) or save on demand. I remember parking my character in a corner and hoping he'd be ok when I realized I had to leave for work that day. If I remember correctly there was also a way to anger an NPC merchant if you accidentally attacked them and they wouldn't sell to you anymore. The ability for you to see "ghosts" of other players plus have people join your game to help/hurt you was such an exciting design at the time.

100% yes

I would buy the digital version for sure, maybe even for the same price.
I don’t like Discs. I don’t own disks now and I definitely don’t want to go back to them.
i like the more minimalist look without the disk slot.
I also own the all digital Xbox one and I love it.

I’m torn.

First off, I hate the design
of the console itself. I was hoping for something more minimalist and Apple-like. I’m actually kind of surprised they released something like that considering that minimalist is the current style.
The new Xbox isn’t too pretty either - definitely way more minimalist but also very boring. Design should be minimalist but with a nuance, like apples best designs.

That said, i am impressed with the PS5. The controller has way more features than the Xbox. Integrated speaker, integrated mic, haptic buttons, touchpad, indicator lights, new design, integrated battery with usb c charging. Well have to see which ones of those are truely useful, but at least they are trying something.

the Xbox controller looks super dated and still has AA batteries, I really can’t believe it. maybe it will still feel better in my hands.

PS5 has some more interesting features like their custom SSD or their custom sound chip, Xbox I basically a powerful PC but nothing more.
all digital version also seems to be missing for Xbox.
Exclusives look better for PS5 as well.

The only way I see them succeeding is if they manage to somehow leverage their Azure cloud services. This is something that Sony can’t easily replicate.

I say this as an Xbox Veteran who owned all the xboxes and currently uses a Xbox One all digital. Maybe this will be my first Sony console
