You sell consoles via games not hardware though.

Sony had a history of strong exclusives and a lineup of capable internal studios at the time the PS5 came out. Now it seems what they have is a bunch of failed GaaS projects, a studio network in disarray/partly shuttered, their exclusives having mostly been ported to PC and a range of cross-gen titles you may as well have been able to play on the previous model.
With games now taking twice as long to develop than in the good old times when can they realistically come out with a bunch of reasons for people to buy into a new generation?

Well no more Sony exclusives are coming to PC now, and yes the live service idea has really messed them up, but they are on the right track now having got rid of Jim Ryan and Japan taking back overall control of the division. They are still better placed then Microsoft is, Nintendo isn't even out of the woods as they still haven't got many dev kits for the Switch 2 out there as I understand.
The whole gen has been a mess with Sony and Microsoft. But you also need hardware to sell the games and they now make a profit on every console sold.

However a point worth stating, tariffs are still impacting pricing, and during COVID RAM and storage prides shot up, yet the console prices did not and they launched them during that time also.

Recently picked up a Pro. It's really good playing games on my 65" OLED.

I need @BlankStar to talk me into getting Crimson Desert.

Haha, haven't bought it myself. Yet. I made a pact with myself to stop buying games and work on my back-log. There are some exceptions like Ghost of Yotei last october and two future games: GTA6 and Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3. I broke my pact with Claire Obscur: Expedition 33 after a friend convinced me (paired with massive good reviews and awards) but won't break it again even though that several games are peaking my intrest like Crimson Desert and 007: First Light. But I'm holding on. I still have The Witcher 3 in my backlog and I don't want to search the forum to find when I mentioned that the first time, because it will only be embarrassing...

But back on-topic: I'm going to get Crimson Desert when there is some sort of definitive edition. Read that it has(/had) a lot of bugs and stuff like low quality AI assets they forgot to replace and that the story is worth jack **** as the project started as a MMORPG and evolved into a single player open world.

Yeah it's definitely not a story focused but more like a giant playground for you to explore. I'm waiting for the patch that controls difficulty so I won't get stuck on boss fights (which I hate).

Will you just play Witcher 3!!!

Pragmata is an AWESOME game if anyone was to wondering. A cute story, great interaction with the characters, and it is tough in some places! Surprisingly so. Really enjoying it, better then South Of Midnight which I am also playing through.

I know!! Playing Ghost of Yotei Legends online with a friend now. And I'm playing RDR1 on my Portal via PS+ streaming.

Please say it's a crappy game. As stated a couple of posts higher, I made a pact with myself not buying any new games and Pragmata is one of those games trying to make me break that pact :-(

You are in luck, that patch (with difficulty level) dropped today!

In the demo you were forced to use R1 for dodge and couldn't remap it. I'm really hoping the final game isn't like that.

That's brutal because I'm so used to circle being dodge but I guess I'll have to force myself to deal with it.

Or pick up a controller with additional buttons and remap according to your preferences? That's done right on the device, no need for customization functions in the game.

E.g. I couldn't play Ghost of Tsushima without the back button attachment for the DS4 and using it to remap some stuff. Default was too awkward to enjoy for my tastes. Death Stranding also needed some tweaks to the inputs. 😎

Wait a minute, that reminds me that I never looked in that accessibility feature of remapping buttons.

Sigh, trying not to buy games and then stuff gets released like Crimson Desert, Pragmata and Saros... And that new 007 that is getting released soon, looks like a lot of fun...
Loads of first world problems for a gamerdad. Used to have the time, but not the money to buy all the games. Now I can buy them all, but don't have time to play them. The harsh irony of life as a gamer.

I have the money, but not the time.. I have a Legion Go 2 handheld PC, and it is fun but I am thinking of selling it and just sticking with my PlayStation, I always seem to prefer or end up back playing games on my TV. PS is something I've used since the PS1, its ecosystem is good, and they take Apple Pay for their digital store! A huge win. And they use Pass Keys for security. So yeah I'll stick with it, simple easy to use, no settings to mess around with and reliable performance.

Got pragmata on my wishlist (physical). How reliant is the game on needing to use the right analog stick to aim?

Also got a few other games I've written down for a potential pick up (physical).

My sister is really digging her base 5 with included disc drive. She has picked up the external drive for it as she's almost already used a good chunk of the internal space. I've actually have had the thoughts of factory resetting my pro and giving it to her since she is the one who actually plays...

Why?

I'm having troubles getting into things. Couple some fomo panic buying remorse and even more recent Sony shenanigans...

Come on @MisterSavage, how's Crimson Desert? Is it so good you don't even bother checking in here, or is it that bad that you're hiding in shame somewhere?
Some of it is janky as hell but it's been a blast so far. And I've seen several reviews say that they thought the first few hours were painful so I should be set up for good times.

I spent *hours* without the ability to fly because I didn't understand a mechanic in the game. I wasted so much time climbing down from things. 😭
