You sell consoles via games not hardware though.
Sony had a history of strong exclusives and a lineup of capable internal studios at the time the PS5 came out. Now it seems what they have is a bunch of failed GaaS projects, a studio network in disarray/partly shuttered, their exclusives having mostly been ported to PC and a range of cross-gen titles you may as well have been able to play on the previous model.
With games now taking twice as long to develop than in the good old times when can they realistically come out with a bunch of reasons for people to buy into a new generation?
Well no more Sony exclusives are coming to PC now, and yes the live service idea has really messed them up, but they are on the right track now having got rid of Jim Ryan and Japan taking back overall control of the division. They are still better placed then Microsoft is, Nintendo isn't even out of the woods as they still haven't got many dev kits for the Switch 2 out there as I understand.
The whole gen has been a mess with Sony and Microsoft. But you also need hardware to sell the games and they now make a profit on every console sold.
However a point worth stating, tariffs are still impacting pricing, and during COVID RAM and storage prides shot up, yet the console prices did not and they launched them during that time also.
