The PS5 Pro got released 4 years after the PS5 and they decide what a "gen" is. If they'd called the PS5 Pro PS6, it would've been ok for you? Because the more powerful console would be a different generation?
And to compare it with Apple, since we're on MacRumors. When the PS5 got released, Apple released the M1. When the PS5 Pro got released, we already had the M4 Pro and Max. My point being: four years of hardware evolution is a lot and not weird you'd want to get that hardware to your customers, even if it is "mid gen" (whatever that factually might mean)
You have totally missed the point I was making, in regards to Apple my point was I spend enough on Apple gear, perhaps I shouldn't complain when Sony release a 700 Pro console? It had absolutely nothing to do with any hardware Apple has released?
Also to clarify, a gen is around 7 year and always has been, they released the Pro mode gen just like PS4, not sure why you think it should have been a PS6? Consoles are built around the idea of a long lasting platform that is not updated yearly. The Pro changes that somewhat and pushes it towards a two tier platform, but both tiers have a 7 years ish lifespan. It means Sony will release a more cut back console at the start of the gen compared to say Microsoft in the current gen, the Series X was more powerful on paper, in some games it showed. As for the 4 years improvement, well some would argue you don't see a big enough improvement in the Pro over the standard model to warrant those 4 years improvements?
