The PS5 Pro got released 4 years after the PS5 and they decide what a "gen" is. If they'd called the PS5 Pro PS6, it would've been ok for you? Because the more powerful console would be a different generation?
And to compare it with Apple, since we're on MacRumors. When the PS5 got released, Apple released the M1. When the PS5 Pro got released, we already had the M4 Pro and Max. My point being: four years of hardware evolution is a lot and not weird you'd want to get that hardware to your customers, even if it is "mid gen" (whatever that factually might mean)

You have totally missed the point I was making, in regards to Apple my point was I spend enough on Apple gear, perhaps I shouldn't complain when Sony release a 700 Pro console? It had absolutely nothing to do with any hardware Apple has released?

Also to clarify, a gen is around 7 year and always has been, they released the Pro mode gen just like PS4, not sure why you think it should have been a PS6? Consoles are built around the idea of a long lasting platform that is not updated yearly. The Pro changes that somewhat and pushes it towards a two tier platform, but both tiers have a 7 years ish lifespan. It means Sony will release a more cut back console at the start of the gen compared to say Microsoft in the current gen, the Series X was more powerful on paper, in some games it showed. As for the 4 years improvement, well some would argue you don't see a big enough improvement in the Pro over the standard model to warrant those 4 years improvements?

As someone who hates boss fights I really like how Crimson Desert is handling them. I did a story mission with no idea that it was going to be a boss fight. I used all my food trying to win and got destroyed. Besides being able to retry in the middle of the fight I was able to just give up and get my food back. I came back later with better food and weapons and wiped the floor with him. I'm still playing on normal difficulty.

Sony does not deliberately release cut back consoles. At some moment in time they have to accept what they have and start up the production process, but they keep further developing the platform and then release all the improvements they made in four years. And I made to comparison with Apple to show what four years of development mean. When the PS5 got released we had the M1 and when the PS5 Pro we had the M4 Max & Ultra. Point being: four years of development is a lot.

How totally "not shocking" ...

The slump in PS5 sales comes after Sony raised the price of its PS5 consoles twice over the past year, pushing the price of the regular PS5 from $499.99 all the way up to $649.99.

You can't just jack up the prices on 6 year old hardware and expect to not have sales get hammered.

I'm into my PS5 for $190 total after buying a PS5 Pro preowned and then doing a swap + cash with a gent for a normal Slim (all I need I finally determined).

Good grief. I just finished a huge battlefield sequence in the main story of Crimson Desert and I'm honestly shocked that my PS5 Pro didn't render things at 10 FPS at some points because there was so much going on.

Just finished Pragmata, Capcom my developer of the year, Pragmata my game of the year. They REALLY knocked it out the park with the graphics, ray tracing galore, must look beautiful on a high end PC with all the bells and whistles turned on.

What a brilliant game to introduce us to this new IP though, excellently done. I do hope they at least win some awards for the game.

It really is nice seeing them try a new IP. It's definitely in my queue.

I do think it's kind of hilarious that Crimson Desert has all these platforming challenges in the sky islands and you can go "Lol, no." and just boost yourself up high and glide right past them.

Ok, I couldn't resist, got Bond yesterday and holy moly what a game! The intro to the controls via the training is excellent and long! It REALLY sets the tone for the game. It even has a Bond theme song and graphics like the films. Top work by the Developers.

Also because I pre-ordered on PSN I got 24hr early access and 4 outfits to choose from. It was the same price on PSN as Amazon on disk.

Aah, feeling the FOMO! 😀 Always loved the Hitman games, and if they combine some of those gameplay elements with a compelling story, I think I would have a lot of fun with it!

Jumped on it at £43.99. Good timing as I just finished Astro Bot.

Anyone play Skyrim special edition on their PS5? Thinking about burning up a gift card balance on a digital version while it's on sale 40$. Kind of torn on this or getting the PC version for 10$ (also using a gift card balance) my PC is about 10 years old with a rx 580 in it which may be usable.

Special or Anniversary edition? Special edition is like 15 dollars on sale and is also on PS+ Extra. As for RX580 it came out after Skyrim Special Edition (2017 vs 2015) so it should run it easily. If you have an Apple Silicon Mac, then you can also play the Steam version through crossover. My previous MBP (14in M2 Pro base) could run it at 60 native 5120x1440

Looking at the PS5 site, probably leaning towards the anniversary edition, it's listed at $16.49. I'm not signed in or anything and haven't checked through the PS5s actual store front so not sure if dynamic pricing is in effect. I am starting to lean towards picking it up on console even though I can get the special edition on steam for $10 bucks, the anniversary and special edition bundle is $16.49 on steam so...

While I'd prefer a disc, I might just go digital to use up the gift card balance and also go PlayStation 5 as to slowly get away from PC.
