The future of gaming is absolutely of concern, generally speaking.

Software investment suffers or stalls out if hardware install base trends in the wrong direction (or is minimal).

The Vision Pro has an extreme version of this problem.
Well, at least the install base of the current gen is quite good. Devs will probably target this current consoles for a long, long time…

For sure.
I hope they really lean into existing hardware.

I do wish we were working off an install base that isn't already 6 year old hardware (I consider the Pro base to be too minimal to matter).

I don't know why people are buying these at new prices, if they are at all.
I continue to see mint preowned PS5 hardware in the $300-360 range on my local Facebook.

Yupp. Devs will target devices with 8gb vram and 16GB ram. As a result I think games for the ps5 and pro will be made for another 3-5 years from now. They will have a long life cycle just like the OG Nintendo switch.

I got one of the for No Man's Sky and I actually ended up repurchasing it.
Well done. At this point Hello Games has delivered thrice as much as what was expected in the beginning. I don’t know any developer who’s been delivering so much free content over the span of… oh my god I just checked the launch date… TEN ****ing YEARS! yes, in less than two months the game will hit 10 years. Amazing…

I would buy it, but I think the genre is not my cup of tea… Im not sure anymore because with so much content added, maybe now there’s something resembling a story, with a proper ending…

Slightly off-topic but with Valve’s Steam Machine listed price going well above the $1k mark… I’m a bit worried about the upcoming PS6 price and, in general, the future of gaming.

Luckily I have my PS5 Pro and I really hope this machine to last me many years… until the RAM and storage crisis have passed and prices can go down substantially. Maybe by the time the PS6 Pro gets released?
if that happens i'll just stick to indie games and old games from my backlog. I still never played likes of Witcher, Cyberpunk, Dishonored and many other AAAs from the 10s and countless amazing console games i could play on an emulator or even original hardware

tbh the story was not compelling at all. But I'm playing Crimson Desert so I can handle games with a paltry story. 😀

So... GTA 6, no physical edition... WTF is up with that? I haven't even pre-ordered, not like they're going to run out of digital copies. Planning to buy a week before launch but see no reason why to give away my money already...

And who knows that they announce a real physical (collector's) edition before Nov 19th.

And they gave their versions a wrong name. You have "GTA 6" and "GTA 6 Ultimate Edition". That should've been "GTA 6 Lite" and "GTA 6"

Do you have a Pro? If is the normal, how do you feel the performance at this moment after some patches? Worth it?

I've got the Pro. 😬

It really irritates me that there are in-game locations (shops) that you cannot access unless you have the $100 version.

In Canada it is $110 for Standard and $130 for the Ultimate, or whatever they are calling it. Crazy pricing for games and jumped even higher then what I find the already too high price of $89 for normal games. That being said if there was one company I think I get the moneys worth out of it I think it is RockStar games. I don't want to think of the amount of hours waisted in GTA V and even more in Red Dead 1 and more in 2. These games truly are masterpieces and the only reason I think I am going to just spend the extra $20 and unlock the extra tidbits that it comes with.

Allegedly there will be a physical version in December.

Definitely agree about value for money. I sunk a ridiculous amount of time into V.

I think I spent about 30 hours in V and IIRC bought it at full price on release, I've sunk more into games I paid less for...

I have no interest in the online. I don't see the appeal once the story is done.
I never played the online portion and I'm positive I played way, way more than that.

I wonder if they were afraid of factory workers stealing the disks from the assembly line, leaking the game early or some stupid crap like that. Or the crunch is so bad that they couldn't manage to send in the golden disc in time for the November release to print enough copies

Hence my point of "GTA 6 Lite". Hiding content behind the "ultimate edition" is male cow droppings. There were a lot of rumors the game would be at a €/$100 price point and they had a lot of backlash so I don't think it's farfetched to think they rebranded the normal version as "ultimate version" and threw in a lite one so the game is available at a "normal" price.
But no doubt I will be buying this game, but they'll have to wait for begin november to get my money for a digital version. No use in giving them a free loan.

The game itself is not a normal price, about $10 more here in Canada. Normal PS5 games for $89.99. Here it is $110 for GTA VI base version and $139 for the Ultimate Edition. I think they just know the hype for GTA is so big they can charge the extra $20 + and people will pay for what will be the biggest game of all time. Rockstar is the Gold Standard in my opinion when it comes to games that are detailed and offer tons of replayability. I have never gone back to games like I have with GTA V and Red Dead 2. Red Dead 2 is the pinnacle and I have put more hours into this game then any and probably every other game I have ever played combined. And I still find new things. IF they manage to maintain this with GTA VI it will make every other game feel hollow and empty. I already felt that when I tried playing Assassins Creed Valhalla as well as the other AC from that era, they look pretty but just feel like tons of useless empty space to make the game look bigger then it is. I loved AC games before Read Dead 2 came out, now they just seem subpar in comparison.

I panic purchased a refurbished Playstation 5 Pro today. Funny enough it was from CEX in the UK. Yesterday's price £650, today £650. They allowed me to pay yesterday's price.

I think they cranked up the price because Xbox and Appel announced price hikes this week. As we near the GTA6 release, PS5 Pro will likely have it's priced hiked by Sonya, Scalpers will scoop up units and supply will shrink.

Crazy that I have bought a console for just one game GTA6. Until then I have zero need for the product. On PC, games in steam cost a fraction of what they do for playstation 5.

I'd love to see some of the large scale battles on that setup. Must be epic!
Oh yeah. Some of the particle effects are utterly glorious when ray taxing is maxed out too. You can’t miss what you have never had but when you see it there is no going back!

I am utterly and almost disgusted by how expensive PS5 games are compared PC titles. This is the tip of the iceberg. Some pc games on steam are less than the price of a happy meal whilst on ps5 it’s still close to full price. Basically the pa5 title is more expensive, lower frame rate, lower visual quality and might not play at higher settings on the ps6.

I own sack boy on my pc and play it with a ps5 controller owned since two months ago.

Yes I turn off my system and unplug it when not in use. Can't see having it plugged in when it's not used to often.

I did get around to updating it and launching another game, Spyro reignited trilogy and been trying to play that, but like high on life, seems the right analog stick is causing me some issues including causing some bad angles where I fly off into the water (thought dragons could swim?!). Really not sure how to keep the camera in Spyro to follow me? I'll run into a corner, turn around and now the camera is looking at Spyros face instead of looking in the direction I'm facing like before so I need to use the right stick to keep looking the right way. Just something else to pay attention to?

I don't know. I guess I don't know how to game or use things right. Not even sure I'm explaining things right ugh. Maybe that's one reason I'm not wholly enthused to keep running back to the system.

Trying to play high on life, also needing the right analog stick to aim is like top much going on. Used to games where I am looking is where I'm aiming.

I still also think I made the wrong upgrade choice, thought getting this to game on was the better option then upgrading my seriously outdated unsupported desktop computer since computer parts (and core console parts) are obscenely expensive, thought the console was the better option for my case. Guess not.

Just read about a rumor that the component price of the PS6 is $960. Same dude that leaked the PS5 components with 99% accuracy. With assembly, packaging, shipping, etc that would be a retail price of $1400 easily and the same guy says Sony is still planning on releasing it in 2027 (Q4 most likely).
