Cheap and "slow" or not, that Lotus was cute as hell.

It's neither cheap (that was a launch-spec car so £60000) or slow. It's a lot bigger than it looks in real life but is a very nice car. I'd still rather have an Elise (which is handy really :)) but I hope it does very well for Lotus. If for no other reason than sales of this car have to fund development of a real Lotus supercar (not Clarkson, the Evora is not a supercar or even meant to be): the new Esprit. Which will be stunning :D

The Caparo T1 was faster. And there's no way that FXX is streetable, ergo no way it should stay on the lap board.

The FXX isn't even street legal. When they said that you buy the FXX and Ferrari keeps it and loans it out to you at a track, that's why. They want to make sure no one is taking it out on public roads. So no, it definitely should not be on the lap board as the lap board has always been restricted to cars that you can drive on the road.

I meant cheap as in the way Jeremy was describing the interior of the car. I think he was just being a snob though. I imagine it would knock my socks off if I drove it. Verrraay shecksay car.

Schumi was awesome - I think Clarkson did a good job staying his usual irreverent self while interviewing him (others would have turned into raging sycophants) - loved the digs about whether he found it boring watching F1 when one person wins all the races and driving into Damon Hill.

Anyway, I don't think anyone believes for a second Michael Schumacher was The Stig for any longer than the 1m 10s it took him to fling that FXX around the track. In the end credits, Michael Schumacher was listed as a special guest, immediately underneath The Stig...

This just needed quoting. :D

I knew I should've emphasised the word potentially just incase.

Top Gear's explanation wasn't entirely accurate (what's new there though?).

Some have obviously satisfied their countries single type approval regs. ;)

It's not that exactly, I'd suggest that a more accurate description is that the FXX was never a production car in the first instance, and despite being able to be modified to run on the roads (almost anything can be), you couldn't buy and drive it on the road without expensive (and extensive) modification and that's why it shouldn't have been eligible for inclusion on the board... it should be for production cars only.

Poor 1st episode in my opinion :( I was disappointed. I hope Sundays episode is an improvement.

I'll agree this was not the best episode. It certainly had some fun moments, but as a whole something felt off. It's like they cut back the race as well - which is fine since I was perhaps the most dull of the lot so far.

The preview did look fun and much more energetic than this episode.

Any new Top Gear UK is a good thing, IMO, however I do agree that after the initial excitement of being a new episode wore off, it did seem to feel a bit hollow.

"The News" was just abysmal. You have two huge car companies in Chapter 11 bankruptcy and no mention of it?

No lap of the track in the Lotus? Heck, not much of a review of the Lotus, period.

I did really like the race, but it was significantly less "epic" than other "epic races".

Having Michael there was cool and that FXX lap was supernatural. Spoofing him as The Stig was okay, but JC's interview was forced and the Liana lap at the end was just...meh.

I have higher hopes for this weekend. Stephen Fry was awesome during his last appearance.

Yeah, despite being 65 minutes, the epsidoe felt like it was only 80% finished for each of the segments.

And what was up with the jokes Richard was making when they were segwaying back into the race? I get what they were going for, but it came off badly. And ontop of that the man needs a haircut!

Although the whole point of the 'news' sponsored by the Dacia Sandero is to be ironic and report on non-news rather than reporting on any actual news.

In any event, Conan O' Brien seems to have the monopoly on GM/Chrysler humour at the moment.

But they have reported on real car news in the past. Vauxhall Motors along with Opel have been partially sold to a new consortium of owners and Saab is being sold to Koenigsegg, all of which I think would interest them and their viewers.

Maybe it will be in Sunday's episode.

:( Didn't realize the new series started. Does anyone on here know how long it takes to come up on iTunes in the US?

Probably many months. I don't know if Series 12 made it to iTunes until it had already been broadcast on BBC America and that happened a few months after the series completed it's BBC 2 broadcast in the UK.

Ready for this evening?
Less than 10 mins to go...

Can we really expect a race between Bugatti Veyron and a McLaren F1???
See pic...

BTW, this made me LOL (from Top Gear site):
“It’s your line mate.” “Er, no mate, it’s yours.” “Really – it’s definitely you.” There’s only one way to settle this, and that’s with a massive fight.

Just shows how amazing the McLaren F1 is.... 16 years old, and faster than the Veyron to the first 100 K's.

Gr8 episode! Had a lot of laughs tonight!

Really enjoyed Top Gear tonight.

Stephen Fry looked a bit ill/tired with those bags under his eyes and the weight loss, :( ?

Agree about the McLaren, its only about 10mph slower top speed.

Heard there are going to be new McLaren road cars at some point.

Given the :eek:nature of the app on Stephen Fry's iphone we can assume it must be a jail-broken version

doubt that would make it to the app store somehow

Sweet, a Top Gear thread!

I just found out about this show a couple months ago (thanks to a free iTMS download) and am loving it! Problem is, I don't have BBC where I live. Any place online where I can stream it or watch past episodes? I've checked with freeTVproject and the streams don't work.

Can't wait to see more episodes!
