You should do... I'm on it too and I get Visual Voicemail. Tried resetting network settings?

I'm definitely on an iphone simplicity contract as I get the unlimited data. I started the contract about 16 months ago though. Maybe this was before visual voicemail was included. I'll have to enquire about it further.

What exactly is there to implement? The technology already exists on the hardware doesn't it? Boggles my mind

The server-side voicemail system has to be upgraded to be compatible with Visual Voicemail in order for it to work with the iPhone... so if your iPhone's off, the call gets diverted to the special carrier server which records the message and data about the message in a way that the iPhone can access when you turn it back on. And a lot of the carriers have pretty kludgy old voicemail server architecture that isn't easily upgraded.

I'm on the iphone simplicity plan and I don't get visual voicemail.
I would check what you've got - regular simplicity plans don't get it, but the Simplicity 20 for iPhone (and I think there's a £30 plan as well) does.

The new iPhone plans also get it.

*EDIT* Saw your last post - the iPhone simplicity plans only started in December, I think.

With Vodafone, can anyone tell me if they charge for MMS / sending a text from abroad, or if it still uses X number of texts from your allowance?

obviously ;)

No. Visual voicemail has a completely different way of serving the voicemail messages and data. The whole message is downloaded to your phone before playing back to enable you to fast forward, rewind, pause etc. Also a list of voicemails waiting if provided and indicates if they are read or not. This is reliant on special hardware at the providers end. Not exactly mind boggling... The reason you don't get it on the simplicity tariff is that this service costs money, so they want you tied into a contract to pay for it.

All other providers just play back the messages from their servers, in the same way that they always have. It's only as sophisticated as an old fashioned tape answering machine really, just with digitally stored messages.

Simplicity isn't Pay and Go though!

Aye, it's a one month rolling contract.

I wasn't trying to say Simplicity was PAYG though, I just think it's a joke that PAYG don't get it. Just seems like taking it out for the sake of giving contract customers something "extra".

I paid for my phone up front you f.... must not swear.

I must stress that Vodafone PAYG iPhone 4:

You can pre-order it here from June 24.

Also, you need to stop jumping from this thread to the other pointless Vodafone prices thread and giving different information.

At 16:38 you told people there was no PAYG on Vodafone, despite it being discussed on here by then.

And then some ten minutes later you're "stressing" things (which have already been covered in this thread) and telling people the actual info that it is being released on PAYG. Yet you've not gone back to that thread and corrected your error for people who may only read that thread.

Confusion doesn't help anyone bud.

BOOOO TOM!!

I did notice that they changed it from a tabbed split between 18/24 mths and then shortly after it changed to the full page split - made me wonder if it was infact just a test for the layout (possibly using current iPhone tariff info)

Not using the current iPhone tariff. They've changed the £70 tariff into £65 a month for the same minutes and texts.

Also, the fact that they are offering unlimited vodafone to vodafone calls for the duration if you preorder.

After seeing those tariffs, I'll definitely be switching over to Vodafone. They already have a way better signal in my area, and a gig of data as opposed to 500mb on O2 definitely helps.

Not confusing if you know the answer, no..

I presumed the call would be recorded to the handset rather than by the carrier, what with Steve Jobs advertising the feature rather than someone from O2.

You will also read my misinformation. Confusion helps, and that's a fact. It may not be useful, but it does help in cumulative causation. I am not giving different information.

Visual Voicemail is nothing more than a simple IMAP inbox being served to the phone by the operator.

At 16:51 you posted in this thread that you "must stress" the PAYG Vodafone pre-orders were from June 24th.

That's different information.

We don't need you to "stress" anything because the people following this thread knew long before you "stressed" the pre-order date for PAYG that it had been listed.

As for "confusion helps" ... aye, ok.
