Oh dear. The product is almost certainly constant though .

which college are you at? and why would you namedrop a 'dr. adlington' to people who wouldn't have any clue who he was (basically, why didn't you just say 'my tutor'/whatever).. just curious

and also.. whats the 3 coverage like in oxford, not really enjoying o2

hi! (first post)

wanted to log in and share my doom and gloom re: orange :(

called them about 20 minutes ago to pay a bill and also enquire about ordering iphone 4.
firstly, the prices on that leaked image are correct. (nice find for whoever dug it up first)
now for the annoying news... i asked about upgrading and was told i can either buy myself out of my contract (of which 15 months are remaining - some £12XX+) or buy the phone on pay as you go (prices tba on june 23, according to the sales rep). the lady on the phone said that orange would not provide me a microsim for my existing account.

my bills are between 500-800 a month, but she stated that this does not make any difference to my buy-out price.

way to kill the party orange:(
when did you get your contract? and what was the period u took out?

Ok this may be a noob question so apologies but if I want to order an iPhone on a vodafone monthlycontract will i be able to do this through the Apple website or only through the Vodafone website?

apple so far have only ever offered payg phones not contract phones but we should know more tomorrow

I have had SUCH a good idea (even if I say so myself).

Does anyone here read Japanese? Japan is one of the initial launch countries I think and they're 8 hours ahead of us so, as I type this, it is about 3:30am on launch day in Japan. If anyone is capable of tapping into what's going on in Japan, either via the apple store or local Japanese forums, they might get a clue as to what might happen here. If pre-orders are going live at 8:00am local time in the various countries then we should see that at midnight our time which would be when Japan opens for pre-orders.

Any volunteers? This is where we hope that some of out US friends at Macrumors are watching this thread because I think there's a much better chance of finding a Japanese speaker among that population.

£579 + £15 unlock !

:)

my limit was £600 even though i sold my 3GS 32GB for £480 just over a week ago

My mate has just given me a deposit on mine, got a White 16gig iPhone 3G selling it him for £250 is this about right?

Just thought it would pay towards the handset cost, even though i'm going to be going from my simplicity plan of £20 (plus £6insurance) a month up to probably a £40 contract that will have less mins (than previous same price point) and NO unlimited internet (prob £15insurance i'm guessing.

 Hmmmmm looking as i type i'm goint to be going from £26 to £55 a month for 18months, am pretty sure that it would be silly not to pay for insurance just incase i loose or drop it. Hope the £522 price difference is going to be worth the upgrade.......really makes me consider keeping my Jailbroken 3G looking at the true costs now!?

I can read/speak japanese but afaik they're not doing pre-orders?

it's a 24 month contract and i took it out about 8-9 months ago. 15 months to go before it's over.

guess i'm just gonna ebay my 3gs and pay the extra for payg model (on orange).

the sales rep said i could take another contract out on a 2nd line, but one 24-month contract is enough!

Yeah I don't think he's actually at Oxford. I have the same problem with o2, I'm quite tempted to switch to Orange.

Says about June 15th preorder but nothing else really.

At midnight tonight I'll check again because it'll be a more suitable time.

Apple is notoriously slow to update in Japan though, and I really really really hate the softbank website so I can't help you out there

If you have a lump sum available. Consider buying on payg and then getting a sim only plan. That's what i do with Vodafone. Got on the £20/month for 1200 mins and unlimited data & text plan. When i rang, they offered me a £100 rebate after 3 months. So for 12 months, it averages at £11.67/month.

If you have time, bang some numbers into excel. Also, look at Quidco, they do a lot of rebate and money off deals.

Im guessing it will be 8am on the Apple store.

California is 8 hours behind, which makes it midnight there...

Also, Audtralia and Japan are into the 15th and still showing 3gs only, although are they on the list of countries to get them first?

you could buy it on pay as you go and cut down your current contract sim into the micro-sim size and use it that way,

Australia's not on that list unfortunately, coming up in July.

mmm, I'm an oxford student and it just didn't seem very in character.

I mean, wtf, who writes 'Oxford University' in their location

To whoever was asking about Japanese stuff for iPhone.

http://mb.softbank.jp/mb/iphone/price_plan/

softbank website

you pay 1029 en - 4410 en (£7 to £32) every month for the phone and then on top of that 980 en (about £7 again) + 315 en (about 2.50) a month for the most basic line rental.

haha~
my work/family/friends in us/japan. and various roaming.

why did i go with orange :(

lol can't you use skype? even if it's over 3g, like on fring?

and at the risk of being called a 3 salesman again, I'm just going to post this and run away and hide

Agreed, definitely seems like what someone would do if they weren't there but wanted people to think they were. Out of interest, what college are you at? I'm at one of the Turl Street ones :)

it's been confirmed that softbank will start taking orders at 17:00 on june 15. exactly the same time as our 8am pre-orders.

you can see pricing here: http://weekly.ascii.jp/elem/000/000/020/20688/
it's a bit confusing to explain break-down of costs because the 'white plan' works a little differently.

Hi, my name is Rene M. Welcome to Apple!
How may I assist you today?
Hello, I have a question about pre ordering an iPhone 4
I'm happy to assist with that.
When exactly would I be able to pre order an iPhone? 12am tonight? Also is it just for pay as you go iPhones or pay monthly as well?
One moment while I research that for you.
I am sorry but those details would be released at a later date.
iPhone 4 arrives on 24 June, and you can pre-order or reserve yours on 15 June. To stay up to date on the latest iPhone news, would you like to register your email?
Really? no details? the pre order date is tomorrow..
That is correct.

It's really not good enough Apple.
