lol can't you use skype? even if it's over 3g, like on fring?

and at the risk of being called a 3 salesman again, I'm just going to post this and run away and hide

those *are* good prices! thanks!
wish someone would come up with cheap roaming charges for data tho.
anyway, i claim bills back from the reluctant accounts department, so it's all good:D

As long as O2's handset prices aren't extortionate... doesn't this make them best for texts etc (value for money) - seen as most of us won't use more than 500mb data?

Agreed, definitely seems like what someone would do if they weren't there but wanted people to think they were. Out of interest, what college are you at? I'm at one of the Turl Street ones :)

That one with the meadows and the posh boys.

I remember when the 3G launched I called Apple and an Apple retail store 9pm the night before launch day and they knew nothing! They got briefed around 5am the day of the launch. Would have thought Apple would be much better organised.

I've just got off the phone to the apple store support team - I called them for a totally unrelated issue. The guy at apple said they were very busy with calls about pre-orders, so I asked a few more questions! He said that pre-orders should be from 0800 tomorrow morning (which ties in with what others have already said) but he also seemed to think that upgrades could be pre-ordered - which is at odds to what think we know already. I don't expect the last point to be correct, but it would be nice if it was!

Hi, my name is Rene M. Welcome to Apple!
How may I assist you today?
Hello, I have a question about pre ordering an iPhone 4
I'm happy to assist with that.
When exactly would I be able to pre order an iPhone? 12am tonight? Also is it just for pay as you go iPhones or pay monthly as well?
One moment while I research that for you.
I am sorry but those details would be released at a later date.
iPhone 4 arrives on 24 June, and you can pre-order or reserve yours on 15 June. To stay up to date on the latest iPhone news, would you like to register your email?
Really? no details? the pre order date is tomorrow..
That is correct.

It's really not good enough Apple.

But Apple are hardly likely to give out details early (otherwise there would not be such excitement). I have a horrid feeling however that we are going to be disappointed if we wish to buy PAYG to avoid a) long contract (what self respecting iPhone fan would commit to more than a year knowing the next device will be out in a years time); and b) the crappy new contracts that will be offered (how wonderful it is we now have competition between carriers and a massive recession, else just imagine how much o2 might have charged).

Anyway, despite these misgivings, I feel like a kid on Christmas eve (except I'm going to have to buy my own present).

what do you guys reckon are the chances of o2 providing a free iphone 4 in the £45 and £65 tariffs when the pricings are eventually released? ( as in the leaked vodafone tariffs).

If you have a lump sum available. Consider buying on payg and then getting a sim only plan. That's what i do with Vodafone. Got on the £20/month for 1200 mins and unlimited data & text plan. When i rang, they offered me a £100 rebate after 3 months. So for 12 months, it averages at £11.67/month.

If you have time, bang some numbers into excel. Also, look at Quidco, they do a lot of rebate and money off deals.

Yeah i've considered this option but all depends how steep their prices are.
Also my main concern is regards to actually insuring the phone.
In order to insure an iPhone PAYG you are insuring the actual sim that comes with the phone. So if i was to use a different sim other than the one supplied with the phone this would break the contract of the insurance they do. (i read this yesterday on a forum)

I'm pretty sure, even though will prob be £15 a month that it is best to as if i was to spend around £600 on a phone and then dropped it would be extreamly gutted if it broke.

Would buy PAYG if insurance could be for the phone regardless of what sim you use, that way could transfer my simplicity plan over to the micro sim, keep my unlimited data plan and pay £20 a month rolling contract. Leaving me to upgrade at any time i choose to. OR could do a 12 month simplicity plan so then would def keep unlimited data for at least 12 months. Though wouldn't want to set this up as a 12 months plan now, incase this cant be done that way.

Insurance is only effective against damage from loss or theft. It is not effective for cover against breaks because a phone swap costs £139. If you pay £15 a month and have an Excess of £25, your premium after just 8 months would have exceeded the costs of replacing your phone after a break.

I insured my 3GS 32GB on launch with Endsleigh, costed me £39 for the year regardless of what happened to it. Water damage, theft, loss etc etc. Excess was £50.

Planning on doing the same with the iPhone 4

True, the handset prices look pretty bad compared to the leaked prices from Vodafone. But that image seems to say that data is unlimited. If that's true, I'll switch to Orange.

Does it say 500 texts for 18 month contract (wtf? 500 vs unlimited?) and then £189 for the phone on the highest tariff?

Ios 4

Dont know if this has already been covered. too many posts to go through.

There is a leak where you can get IOS4 on your phone now. I did it and it works perfectly.

running it and its schmexy... :D
i need the hardware!!!!!!!!

Ahh may look into other companies offering insurance.
Is it really only £139 for a full phone swap? Never heard of that before. Currently paid 2 years for my 3G of £6 a month as my previous insurance premium cost just carried over to my 3G contract. £144 in total for 24 months.
I'm guessing now i switched to Simplicity (rolling contract) i probably won't be able to carry on with the £6 a month for the iPhone 4, pretty sure they will try charge me the £15.

Never had my phone stolen (touch wood) or broken either though it has survived a few heart stopping moments when i've fallen asleep on toilet and it's dropped out of my hand onto the floor lol.
