the guy said he never knew the transaction so bank did the chargeback through paypal. Even spoke to him and next time I rang Asian gentleman told me he'd never heard of him. Chargeback can be done at any time. I lost my Special Delivery tracking number, well 6 months you wouldn't think you needed it. Police wouldn't even help, even though guy bought other stuff and did same thing!
Would never sell an iPhone on eBay again.

With the relevant stuff, you can take it to the small claims court.

as far as i am aware you cannot get the 30% on iPhones, it only applied to the 3G and then they stopped doing it soon after the release of the 3GS.

im pretty sure you wont get it on a PAYG handset regardless.....

sorry; should've made that clearer - i will get 30% off my £30 simplicity tariff. he already told me no discount on the handset...which i may buy from my local Apple Re-seller, Stormfront, who tell me they had 3gs's on launch day last year....fingers crossed!

12:01, 15th June - No pre-order screen

Nothing to see here, move along.

Nothing new on Apple's website yet, nor O2's.
Hopefully, it'll be updated when I wake up.

So has it actually been confirmed we are getting a pre-order option? I don't want to sift through 135 pages, only the UK apple site don't mention it?!

Nothing's happening. I'm off to bed. Hopefully be ordering first thing in the morning, or whenever this gets updated. I'm tempted to say this might be like last year when I woke up at 3am "just to check".

Right, that's it. It's gone midnight and no pre-orders available. I'm not waiting any longer. I'm ordering a 3GS :D.

Seriously though, I wonder if Apple or the networks have sold any 3GS today. There probably are some poor people who somehow din't know that the 4 is due within days or for some reason just had to have an iPhone that day.

See you at 3 :D

a colleague of mine just bought a 3gs - doh!

That's scary. Wonder what would happen if you didn't have the money in your PP account for them to refund the Asian "gentleman"?

I've just sold my iPhone on Ebay (gulp), so I'm definitely going to hang on to my SD receipt.....forever :)

This is why I always keep my PayPal account empty and change my bank cards every six months!

eBay do have a facility for you to input tracking numbers onto sold items which are then archived. And presumably you'd e-mail the tracking number to the buyer and have a copy of it in your sent items?

There have always been scammers out there - long before eBay and they'll be out there long after too. Just be sensible, keep good records and do the necessary checks and you'll be okay 99.99% of the time.

So why did the guy in my local O2 shop say they aren't doing pre-orders? And that it's on a first-come-first-served basis on release day. Is he talking crap?

I'm able to get an upgrade. My 3G contract expired in May. Anyone else in a similar position who can advise?

The 30% F&F discount is valid on all contracts - and will be valid on iPhone 4 contracts. The 30% is line rental discount. There is no handset discount at all (Pay Monthly/Pay & Go/Business etc)

can you confirm that as every O2 shop i have been in asking the same thing said they dont do it on iPhone line rentals anymore, and we even were advised by O2 to change our policy at work. They did it up until around October 2009 before they pulled it due to high demand on handsets.

As far as i am aware the discount applied on 3G iPhone line rental up until around October 2009, and 3GS line rental discount was only available up until the end of July 2009 before they pulled it.

FYI i work for a company who deals with O2 in the form of loyalty cards (we all get issued a loyalty card directly from O2, not sure if it is the same thing as F&F discount, however we can use it for immediate family and friends of up to 6 times per year i think), The loyalty card also discounts line rental 30% (i took my contract out september 2009, so just missed the cut off point when they stopped doing it).

has it since changed then? The reason i ask is because after October(ish) 2009 we had to change our policy as O2 were no longer offering loyalty discounts through the iPhone contracts. All other contracts applied though, just not ones involving the iPhone.

So what's going to happen? I'm a bit confused by this. So if I was to go on contract on Orange, I can just pre-order the phone and pick it up or something?

I take it if you have a zero PayPal balance, PayPal cannot simply take money out of any bank or credit card you have on file to pay for something like this?

I take it you would simply sit with a negative balance on your PP account?

I would have thought so. I very much doubt they would simply debit your bank account or debit card because that, my friend, is called stealing.

I think you'd sit with a negative PayPal balance for a while and receive emails and letters, then you'd have the bailiffs round (and be charged bailiffs fees) and then go to court.

Personally, I'd go to court to fight something like that.
