I've currently got a 24 month contract with 02 which finished in February - paying £25/month for 75 minutes. Thinking about changing contracts to the Simplicity £15 month 300 minutes with unlimited data now (before the new iPhone 4 contracts with 500mb data limit come in on the 24th) and then getting a PAYG iPhone 4.

Is this a good idea? are other people doing the same thing? really don't want to be stuck with a 500mb data limit if possible...

Also interested to see what contracts 3 come out with though.

I was in a similar position, finished O2 contract in Jan, called them yesterday and moved to 12 month Simplicity contract for 15/mth. I personally think its a good idea, I posted a few pages back exactly as to why. But to summarise, my total cost of ownership over 12 months with an unlocked 32 GB iphone 4 will be £763.71.

ok, so I'm on o2 Simplicity 20 at the moment. £20 a month, rolling 30 day contract which gives me:

600 mins
1200 texts
unlimited data

1. Am I going to be able to use that in an iPhone or will o2 make me change tariff to get a micro sim?
2. At the moment, my 1200 texts include 4for1 on texts abroad and 4for1 on MMS. I'm really concerned that any tariff I move to makes me pay for both of these types of messages. I go abroad regularly and use texts to keep in touch as opposed to voice.

Typically I go abroad for about 3 months a year (hols + work). Call it 90 days. On average, I send about 20 messages a day. Depending on which country I'm in, the charges vary but about 20p average.

This gives 90x20x0.20 = a whopping £360 per year extra if I stop being allowed to use my inclusive texts whilst abroad.

any options people can suggest?

cheers
Matt

I work for Orange on iPhone Tech Support and we received emails this morning advising us how to request a micro sims. Obviously there is no cost to the customer and as far as I am aware, the micro sim will be sent immediately.

I hope that helps

there is no link, i just rung them up at 1pm uk time and i was the first person she dealt with about sending me one....because they just heard the news themselves.

I spoke to Orange about an hour ago and the guy there said they were still waiting to hear. He offered to call me back when they heard - expected to hear today or tomorrow. Never heard of Orange sales staff offering to call you back. Hmmmm. We'll see!

Just had an interesting thought, most SIMs (or at least the card they come in) have "property of {Network}" written on them. If it remains the property of the network, then is cutting it up technically criminal damage? Just speaking hypothetically - I'll be cutting it anyway ;) Plus we tend to bin this supposed 'property' when done with it.

Just a random little thought that comes to mind. I wouldn't worry about it - there are a *lot* of silly things that are technically illegal (eating mince pies on Christmas Day is one that springs to mind!)

Probably true. Of course if O2 take me to court I will stump up the 20p to replace it. :p

The sales guys don't seem to know about this - either that or they don't read their emails!

Ok am i the only one here who's actually wondering whether we will be able to use this phone when it gets delivered to us???? If networks are still not coming out with price plans....or any news on micro sims......are we just gonna have a nice shiny brick on the 24th????

Thats exactly what I was thinking..so im preparing to make my own micro sim, I have just printed out a template & instructions so I dont bugger it up!

Has anybody managed to get a micro-sim card from o2???? I called them up and they still dont have any.

Same, I called them up about 30 mins ago, she said she would find out for me, put me on hold, said they couldnt order me one to send out to me, and I would have to pop into a o2 store on the 24th, she then called my local branch for me (Brent Cross o2) and the manager said they wouldn't supply them :S and I could try again on launch day or ask the Apple store for one :S W T F?! LOL This is going to be soooooo looooong I just know its going to be an ordeal to try and get one before launch day.
She even asked if I had registered my interest, I said yh, and she said they MAY send one out to me...
This is stupid, why cant they just have the option on their site to get one sent to existing customers?

I have phoned Orange support now 3 times:

1st time - He said he would call me back as soon as I said Micro-sim (never happened)

2nd time - He couldn't understand my phone number that I was telling him so i hung up.

3rd time - He said he didn't know what micro-sims were and he hung up on me!!

Weird.

I spoke to Orange about an hour ago and got passed through to someone in Tech Support and they ordered my new sim and told me it should be with me in the 3-4 days.

Good to see Orange's internal training is working well.

Hmmmmm. Indeed.

I think he just liked the sound of your voice and wanted a convenient excuse to call you back.

Keep us informed. ;)
