Anyone like the look of oranges plans? Im still undecided about getting a new contract or buying unlocked from apple and sticking my o2 simplicity sim in it

Since I'm off work until Monday and the same questions appear to be being asked over and over again I'm thinking about knocking up a little FAQ website.

Anybody want to assist with Orange/T-Mobile/Voda/Virgin/Tesco questions?

Nice idea - realistically, I'm not sure if I'm going to have time but hopefully there mught be one or two volunteers...

Can someone help me? I want to use oranges dolphin pay as you go tariff on the iphone but the only prices there are £480 (for the 16gb model) but there is no price for what ill need to pay monthly to get the unlimited free texts. But i got an email sayin prices were up. Ive never been with orange so maybe im missin something? Thanks

It's a market distortion, not a black market.

Consumer only buys as many of the devices as they need (to maximise utility) which would be 1. When the consumer buys 2, they are not fulfilling extra utility by owning a second device, which will not be used, thus they are distorting an excludable market (i.e. for one person to buy that extra iPhone, another has to lose out as there are a finite amount of them).

Whilst selling on the second iPhone for an inflated price may be considered 'entrepreneurial' by those who have no idea what true entrepreneurship is or 'unfair' by those who fail to differentiate between subjectivity and objectivity, all it really does is temporarily distort the market.

Those same people will probably feel very stupid when the supply of iPhone 4s is nowhere near as limited as Apple may have you think and they are unable to get the exorbitant mark-ups they may be unrealistically dreaming of.

Excellent economic post that. Takes me back to college days...

£480 for 16gb payg on Orange...me paying £499 for an unlocked 16gb via apple seems like i got a VERY good deal.

i wonder if O2 will now try to undercut orange - personally, i can't see them offering it for less than £470...even then as an exisiting o2 customer i would still prefer getting one completely unlocked via apple - that combined with my rolling 30d simplicity with unlimited data via o2 makes me very happy.

can't wait to collect mine - only way i will not collect my reservation and instead 'walk out quietly' is if they happne to have white units on display on the 24th and i become so enamoured that i decide i will wait for them to go on sale :)

I'm still not sure who I'll be with on the 24th... pre-ordered my iPhone 4 yesterday morning (confirmation email received late last night)... I'm currently with O2 PAYG (Your Country). I've pre-registered on the O2 site for an iPhone 4 and they've indicated they might send a micro sim, but no guarantee.

I'm considering a move to Orange, but it looks like all I'd be able to get with the unlocked phone from Apple is one of their SIM only plans, which are not as appealing as O2's Simplicity plans... I don't know if I'll stay with O2 - coverage seems hit and miss in Wales, but their other costs (MMS, roaming, etc) are considerably lower compared to Orange and Vodafone.

I'm still undecided, but hopefully whatever I decide I can get a PAYG plan with some free internet on it and a micro chip by the time I get my iPhone, which doesn't seem likely from the posts I've read.

I just spoke to Vodafone to find out if they'll do a micro SIm for their iPhone SIM only option. She said yes they will, asked why I'd do that. I said because if previous prices were a guide then a phone from Apple and a £20 a month SIM only works out more or less the same as Vodafones £35 a month contract with a subsidised phone, and I'd only be tied in for a year. She said call back on Friday as they will e releasing their prices then and they may surprise me at how much cheaper they are!!! I'll believe it when I see it!

Are you hoping to get a micro sim on launch day or will you just cut your existing simplicity sim? Hopefully O2 send out some of these prior to launch day.

can anyone with an o2 ipad put their sim card in the phone on the 24th and tell us if it works?
I have an ipad sim on the way and it seems like an easy way of getting started up as quickly as possible!

Can anyone confirm this?I just phoned the o2 store and the guy said they would have PAYG iphones on the 24th

The site says the iPhone 4 will launch on the 24th, it dosen't mention any delays for the PAYG ones. You should be good to get PAYG at launch.
