Is anyone thinking of moving away from O2 to Vodafone or Orange?

I'm moving to Orange. Was with them before I got my 3GS on O2 last year, and I've had nothing but horrid experience with O2. According to their coverage map I should have 3G, but I have zero coverage at all. Lying network!

Emphatically YES.

I long for the day when I am not excited to see the "E' symbol, let alone the *occasional* '3G' one!

Same here!! The 3G service in Warrington is abysmal, O2 keeps telling me that a different cell has more requirement for the signal and switches mine to the dreaded "E" or "o" symbol

iPhone first-timer

although i've owned a mac and a hackintosh for while, this will be my first iPhone. i'm not familiar with the best way to 'play it' but here's my situation:

- i'm already on an o2 £25pm simplicity tarrif which means no contract tie-in which is way i like it. .

- should i buy via apple-store or O2, what are pros and cons - what's the difference as i'm assuming prices will be the same right?

- my aim is to use the current sim, cut-down, in the iPhone - will there be disadvantages etc.

- i have a relative who can get me a 10% discount via Tesco whenever they get it; when's that likely? Also will i be able to plonk my O2 simplicity sim into it with no probs?

thanks guys.

If you are going for sim free "if available" the prices will be the same! personally i find you get a better level of service if you buy from the Apple Store!

With regards to your sim, contact O2 and they will swap your sim for the micro sim rather than you cutting it down! i have just registered interest on the O2 web site and they will send you the new micro sim pre launch!

I'm thinking Vodafone too.

Remember, Orange already have better 3G coverage than Vodafone, and Orange will soon be roaming with T-Mobile (with whom they are merging) and T-Mobile (together with 3UK through a joint venture) have been feverishly extending 3G coverage. When they are joined the coverage will be phenomenal.

In case anyone hasn't seen it, here are coverage maps released by Ofcom showing the position in December 2008 http://www.ofcom.org.uk/radiocomms/...and/cellular/3g/maps/3gmaps/coverage_maps.pdf. O2 have not moved on much since then, but Three/T-Mobile, have and Orange subscribers are soon to benefit from this.

Actually Three are likely to have the best 3G coverage of all. They promise 98% UK population coverage by the end of the year for 3G (http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/April2010/3-UK-and-T-Mobiles-3G-Networks-Get-Bigger-by-3G-co-uk.html), that's very impressive. But, of course, Three don't have the iPhone. Yet.

(before anyone starts whining about Three, Remember what a cool, technologically advanced and fast growing company Orange was in the 1990s as the underdog biting at the heels of those incumbent giants Cellnet (now 02) and Vodafone? And who was behind Orange originally that grew it to overtake them? Hutchison that's who, and where are they now?!) :)

How long will it take them to swap all our details from our existing sims over to micro sims though?? I can imagine them being pretty busy sought be a couple of days??

With a click of a button, it is automated by machines. They're far more powerful than the iPad and the iPhone.

Yes that was launch day. I stood in the queue at my local Apple Store, gave up after 45 mins and bought one in an o2 store. They made me buy the top up but they scanned the sim pack which put the £10 on.

I did exactly the same! Queued at apple store for agggges, queue was massive and they had limited stock, so I bottled it and went to an O2 store and lo and behold, they had loads. :)

My service with O2 has always been good and I have always been able to pick up a 3G signal with them up until the past month, suddenly I'm finding it hard to get a strong connection especially in my house when my wi-fi is off. I have never been with Vodaphone but may look into into for iPhone 4.

I'm sitting on the edge at the moment!

I have a 3GS only six months into the 24 and am more than willing to sell up and purchase the iPhone4 on PAYG to leave me in good stead for the next iPhone but if O2 are going to offer me an upgrade so soon into the contract (doubt that they will as it doesn't make business sense!) I feel obliged to upgrade now!

Hoping PAYG prices are similar to iPad WiFi pricing!

They'll probably be similar to what they are now.

o2 just said on there twitter there having a special offer of early upgrades for limited time only

I'm so impatient I just really want to know what the O2 "special deal" (which will suck) actually is!? And also how much it is on PAYG and how much it is to cancel my contract or what to do with my remaining 6 months >_<

SO CONFUSING. I need to work out what's the cheapest way to do this but I neeeeeeeeeed figures O2. GIVE ME FIGURES!!

Those who have successfully negotiated with o2 in the past, what do you think my chances are of the following:

I am currently on iPhone simplicity and have been for 6 months (original 3G owner). My GF is 12months into a 24 month contract and obviously not due for renewal.

What do you think the chances are of getting o2 to allow her an early upgrade to iPhone 4 if I offered to enter 24 month contracts for the two of us taking on 2 new iPhone 4's???

I don't think that'll work, they don't like accounting with two accounts to merge possibilities.

Sorry should have states that both accounts are in my name and paid by myself from same bank account.

Improve the situation at all?

I like O2, they've been good to me, and the people in store are amazing.

However, i'd like some 3G, or even a SIGNAL when im out and about on the bike. My friend owning a Voda 3GS, this is getting annoying.

If Orange or Voda can match the O2 Deal (Unlimited Texts and Data) then i might jump ship, but i really want it simplicity, most likely 12 months this time.

Is it better to order from 02 online or apple online?
so the general concensus seems to be Orange have much better 3g coverage than O2?Are there any conclusive stats on this?
